Ys: Memories of Celceta Gets Its First English Screenshots

By Ishaan . October 17, 2013 . 10:00am

Xseed have shared the first batch of English screenshots for Ys: Memories of Celceta, the upcoming PlayStation Vita RPG by Nihon Falcom, slated for release this holiday.

A reimagining of Ys IV, Memories of Celceta follows series protagonist Adol Christin, as he awakens on the outskirts of the forest of Celceta, with no memory of how he got there, and begins a journey to figure his identity out.

Alongside the screenshots, Xseed have also provided a handy list of the major characters in Ys: Memory of Celceta. You can read up on them below.

Adol Christin

The Ys series’ stalwart protagonist, Adol Christin is perhaps the most famous adventurer ever to have lived. Adol is a young man brimming with curiosity who constantly seeks the thrill of discovery and the wonders of new lands. This time around, however, the challenge is quite different – Adol is seeking to solve the mysteries of his own past.

Duren

Duren is an information dealer whom Adol encounters at a bar in Casnan. He claims to have met Adol before – though with no memory, Adol remains skeptical. An extremely kind-hearted man (though he’d never admit it), Duren can’t bring himself to walk away from someone in need, making him a perfect travel companion.

Karna

Karna is a cheerful, honest young girl who lives in the treetop village of Comodo. An extremely skilled huntress, she puts most of the other hunters in the village to shame with her accuracy and cunning talent. Her weapon of choice is the throwing knife, though she has an unfortunate habit of throwing first and asking questions later…

Ozma

A resident of the village of Selray, and the sole remaining member of the tribe which cares for the sacred beasts known as Spardas. Though young, Ozma acts as the village’s leader and has managed to uphold its peaceful ways for as long as he’s been in charge. Reliable, level-headed and dedicated, he is loved and respected by all of the village’s residents. While extremely stubborn and inflexible when it comes to the laws of his tribe, he is also extremely loyal to the people in his charge.

Calilica

Calilica is an energetic, curious young girl who is mature beyond her years in many regards. She harbors something of a complex about her age and youthful appearance, and is constantly seeking to be recognized as an adult by those around her. She looks up to Leeza as an older sister, and has been with her since they were both children. As such, she will hold back at nothing if she can be of assistance to her.

  • Go2hell66

Need this game so bad.if it werent for muramasa and dragons crown my vita would be gathering dust right now

  • $36598391

I wish this would have included the part of the story from Mask of the Sun/Dawn of Ys where Adol returns to the location of the original two games

“This holiday” as in Christmas? Crap…I was hoping to have it before Thanksgiving so I could have a distraction while traveling. >_< I guess the Vita will just have to accumulate more dust.

  • Takui Nanao

i hope its not like Valhalla knights 3 cuz i just got it it was horrible

    • benhofb

Uh, dude I don’t think you’ve got anything to worry about there. Ys and Valhalla Knights are on completely different levels. Plus they’re made by completely different people (only binding factor is that XSEED is localizing both of them…).

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

Ys is an ARPG that thrives on its excellent combat mechanics + good (albeit cliche) plots. VK3 is a generic dungeon crawler with ARPG mechanics that thrives on never ending grind and loot~.

Different strokes really, if you like JRPGs of old, you’ll love Ys~.

      • Takui Nanao

        ohh icc

      • Space_Ghost

I came here planning to ask what this game is like or comparable to, and you pretty much nailed it. Thanks! Gameplay is always most important to me, so “excellent combat mechanics” is great to see.

    • leingod

VK 1 was awful, VK 2 was pretty bad too… I don’t even know why a third one was made, let alone given priority to be localized.

      • InfectedAI

If they keep localizing them they must keep making money.

  • benhofb

Getting pretty pumped for this! It looks pretty slick, so I can’t wait to get my mitts on it come this Holiday!

  • Zero

I played the demo and it was amazing! Does it have multiplayer? Cuz if it does, vita arpg goty!

Edit: just realized, action role playing game game of the year haha.

Someone bring this over to the EU. I want my Karna!

    • XiaomuArisu

I thought we get it in february?

      • Mr_SP

I don’t know. I don’t care, especially since no one nearby is listing it. I’m importing the special edition, because… Uh… I like compasses?

      • http://s932.photobucket.com/ usagi_san

There hasn’t been any mention of it that I know of.

  • Guilherme Matheus Silva

Is this a new game or Is it Ys IV (Mask of the Sun)?

    • Ferrick

technically it’s a new game made based off YS IV dawn of YS, but different in more ways than one, and replaces YS IV mask of the sun and dawn of ys as main canon

      • Guilherme Matheus Silva

I see… Thank You! I think I’ll replay Ys IV in my SNES Emulator since I don’t have a PS Vita.

        • Ferrick

np, just a quick note though, celceta is very different from dawn of ys and mask of the sun

  • cyberkinghardy

Holiday means December right? Wew still a month and a half to go.

    • Mr_SP

It got delayed, so now it’s releasing at the very start of December. But you’ll want to get in fast if you want the special edition – there’s at least one store that’s out of allocations.

      • Armando Stokes

I called my local gamestop and they said they should have them in by the fifth. But who know’s i don’t trust GameStop too much…

        • Mr_SP

I don’t know. Amazon said the post-delay shipping estimate is in mid December. That’s the only date I have, and I kinda hope it’s not worse than that. November would be nice, though.

      • cyberkinghardy

i thought that was just the placeholder date?

        • Mr_SP

I would certainly hope not, considering that’s in six weeks. And as I said, they changed it in the last week, so I really, really hope they’re on the ball.

    • Armando Stokes

Releases on the fifth of November If I’m not mistaken. I’m pre-ordering the Silver Anniversary Edition tomorrow ^^.

  • chalkcl

I can’t wait anymore to play this. Now if Sony managed to bring the Vita TV to west, this would be even better.

  • leingod

Wasn’t this coming out on september, then october? What’s the final release date? :/

  • Wagnaria

Will there be an option to toggle voices to it’s original japanese dub?
I would like to hear Yuki Kaji grunting as Adol Christin.

    • Kai2591

I would like to know this as well.

  • Ric Vazquez

Just a few weeks away, so glad I pre-ordered it.
