What If The Three Musketeers Were… Women?

By Eugene . October 20, 2013 . 3:30pm

The 63rd Rule of the Internet has finally caught up with them. The Three Musketeers, long thought of as sacred and a bloody good story, are now making their way over to the other side of the gender fence.

Developers Aquadia are re-imagining the world of Porthos, d’Artagnan and the rest in their own version called the Kingdom of the Three Musketeers. Slated for the PlayStation Mobile, this means the simulation adventure game will be out on both the Vita as well as Android phones (we’re really, really sorry iPhone lovers).

Set on the continent of Ishuhasaru, the land is carved up into 16 different countries both large and small that have maintained an often acrimonious friction as they struggle to survive. On the tiny southern kingdom of Lancaster a new queen has been crowned, Ferris, but she is young, and untested. Greedy eyes look to end the kingdom’s 300 year reign and finally swallow up a new piece of land for their own.

Other than that, we’re out of clues as to what will happen, so just sit back and enjoy the gorgeous artwork of Ferris and other characters such as Reisha Castella and Alicia Derubela who are probably Aquadia’s alternate reality versions of the musketeers.

Which means rule 34 also applies?

    • Rule 34 should be Rule number 3.

    • Armane

Takaoka Motofumi’s Rapiere if you’re interested in rule 63 and rule 34 Three Musketeers (D’Artagnan is just a trap).

  • Download only? ~_~()

    • JonathanisPrimus

      It’s a PlayStation Mobile game.

  • Good lord…

  • Tom_Phoenix

After that game that has a female King Arthur, this is hardly surprising.

Those designs are awful, though. If you’re going to make a game based on The Three Musketeers, then you should at least make the main characters kind of LOOK like Musketeers. It’s ok if they’re stylised and not 100% faithful to the source material (especially since the main characters are female), but the designs shown here aren’t even close.

A quick Google search produced results that, frankly, put the above illustrations to shame:

    • Kumiko Akimoto

How dare you say how characters can look and how they can look, what they look like doesn’t matter it’s how they act that does

    • Shady Shariest

Yesh… No one really knew/wanted to know what musketeers look like, based on these… “Design”‘s

    • Suicunesol

Oy oy, I like the designs. They’re not anything close to what they really wore, true. But this is Japanese-style western fantasy, which means they can be whatever looks sexy good. I never expected the designs to be historically accurate anyway…

Anyway, reminds me of Charlie’s Angels x Three Musketeers.

    • Lumi

The 2nd and 3rd images are from MMO Granado Espada, which has loads of GORGEOUS clothing for everyone.

    • Yeah, agreed. I definitely believe in terms of creativity. At their best, Japan is full of wonderful and creative ideas…but sometimes it gets too extreme and this is just down-right *tacky*.

    • Oh la la, those are pretty fabulous~. And while I kind of like the designs, yeah, pretty cheap and lacking any reference to the source material. I’m going to have to follow the link to these ons though. ♥

  • Godmars

Really doubt rule 34 is just now getting round to the Three Musketeers.

Though in this case it should be rule 34b or 34L for loli.

  • Chaos_Knight

    That is all.

  • TheBlackRabbit

  • Herok♞

So its magic knight rayearth, they already did the whole female 3 musketeer thing a long time ago, in a way

    • Haha, good way of looking at MKR. And it had mecha, so it’s way ahead of this by default.

  • Eefara

    I was gonna read this article, but then TVTropes distracted me for an hour. -.-;

    • SlickRoach

TVTropes distracts me from entire semesters of reading, it’s all good.

  • Guest

So long as it’s not a harem game.

  • Wappuli

Well atleast the art style is pretty nice, and I kinda like those desings too(masked Duboa looks cool) even though they don’t really look like musketeers at all.

  • BalmungX

    Nothing escapes rule 63

  • Psyguin

Oh, please. This isn’t the first time the three musketeers have been turned into women, and it won’t be the last. I’m more surprised by the fact that people kick up more of a fuss over female musketeers than the fact that there’s been at least one instance where the musketeers have been animals. Anyway, the designs don’t look so good. Especially the pink and purple girls.

  • Andrew Boyce

I can tell you what the three Musketeers would be if they were women, not this.

  • Scrooge_McDuck

    Before, it’s just Aramis.

    • Just Tim

Yeah, I remember watching that adaptation of the 3 Musketeers.

  • AndyLC

At the same time, I can’t say I’ve ever seen America adapt Asian characters without it being cringe-worthy.

  • Kai2591

  • Lazulis

They look more like magical girls than musketeers…but okay…the designs are kinda nice i guess

  • Mnstrzero00

Sorry iPhone lovers? Maybe they can find the strength to distract themselves with a list of outstanding exclusives.

  • fairysun

Well after rule 63rd, usually rule 34th will follow.

  • Aristides

Oh please let it come to the west =D and with an English translation if possible. PSM has a good track record for that :P

  • NoOneSeesWhatWeSee

Well, they’d clearly be more moe.

    As evidenced by these pictures.

  • yellowmage

Musketeerettes? Almost sounds like they’d have trouble controlling their language.

…No, wait, I’ve got it! Puella Magi Madoka Musketeera! With the King/Queen of France as Kyubey!

  • Really running out of ideas.

  • artemisthemp

A game that will never release in the west :(
