These Sinister Ladies Are The Stars Of Deception IV: Blood Ties

By Sato . October 24, 2013 . 4:04pm

It’s been well over 13 years since we saw the last main numbered Deception title, but Tecmo Koei recently announced the latest in Deception IV: Blood Ties, which is currently in the works for PlayStation 3 and Vita. 4Gamer introduces the protagonist Regrina and her three faithful Mediums.

But first, the above is a look at Deception IV: Blood Ties’ first trailer that starts out with a brief look at past games of the series. It is followed by a look at the protagonist Regrina, along with her three Mediums Kaelia, Verza and Lilia, who will be dropping the iron hammer on corrupt humans.

And now, here’s a look at Regrina and her three Mediums:

Regrina

006

While her origin is shrouded in mystery, she has inherited the spirit of the devil. She isn’t quite as powerful as the devil, but for this reason, she was able to escape from being sealed. Unlike regular humans, her growth is much slower and it took her years to become what she is today.

Using the power of the three Mediums, she’ll be visiting the land of the mortals to take out the corrupt, while searching for the “holy words”.

Even though Regrina is the spawn of the devil, she shares a personality that is considered half human and half demon. She doesn’t often show her emotion and is rather tight-lipped. She is indifferent about the thought of killing others.

The three Mediums were born from the sealed devil’s spirit, from the grudge of the demon who has continued watching humans, disgusted by mankind’s “luxuriance,” “brutality,” and “humiliation”.

While they were created to be completely faithful by the demon’s spirit, they have strong personalities, which makes them quite different from your average demon subordinates.

Kaelia

Kaelia prioritizes accomplishing missions more than anything, but when given the chance, she likes to do it in the most spectacular way possible, in order to show the devil’s greatness.

Verza

Meanwhile, Verza’s goal is to teach mankind the anger of the devil, a part of her finds enjoyment in hearing them scream.

Lilia

Lilia is a child-like demon who likes to play pranks on others. She is extremely positive, energetic, innocent, and never shows a negative side.

Deception IV: Blood Ties is slated for release on February 27, 2014 for PlayStation 3 and Vita.

    Haven’t tried this series before.

Graphics doesn’t look impressive but heck, the game itself looked interesting and also unique. I’m surely going to check this game.

  • Loli Summoner

Why does it always have to be a demon, why can’t the character be an angel…

    • Shiki

I do prefer angels. But to answer your question, it’s because the game is about killing people. Angels don’t go around killing people to revive the Devil. LOL

    • AkuLord3

Well maybe they’re…FALLEN ANGELS : o or maybe you like some Bayonetta Angels or SMT angels 83

    • mirumu

Honestly I think that would be more interesting. The Deception games have always had the feel of a downward spiral as you progressively rely on the power of dark forces, but it kind of cuts to the chase when the main character starts out as a demon or somehow already has the spirit of the devil within them.

    • Dark Zerato

New Dante is half angel, half demon. And guess what, he is the crap of DMC series.

    • Ladius

An angel would probably have some issues with dropping a lava urn on the head of a poor villager, only to have the wall send him flying toward another trap ready to skewer him. This is a series where a more evil (or more desperate) main character makes totally sense.

    • FlyingPony

      I guess its because:

      1. In past people always worship angel, so there are many medium with angel as hero and protagonist (Zeus, Heracles, Athena). Modern people get tired from this and try something new, making demon as protagonist this round.

      2. Demon is not bound by rule unlike angel, maybe they are more suitable for a game that about rampaging and splitting blood everywhere. It also make demon sound cooler and more badass, as demon do everything they wanted regardless the consequence.

      • Loli Summoner

People also worship demons in the past too lol and Zeus and friends were geeks “gods” i don’t think they were angels and if they are i doubt it lol, also “tried of this” i’m assuming you mean tried of angel main/protagonist pfft what games have you been playing XD idk about you but i’ve played like two games that the “main” was a angel. DMC and el shaddai. Though Dante was a half angel soooo….but anyway, demons are bound by rules too actually but since they’re evil you know lol they can kill and do bad things and smoke cigarettes XD and angels can be badass too and can go a rampage and splitting blood everywhere…to the evil XD

  • Chrystofax

I remember playing a deception once, it was pretty fun

  • Vash bane

looking good now I feel like playing trapt again .. and yes ounce again I havnt beat it… too lazy to hook up the old ps2 lol

but is it me or am I seeing things? the female knight at the end … did she lose her clothes after getting hit?

    • Shiki

That’s the new “armor break” system. Armored enemies take less damage until you break their armor.

    • InfectedAI

Pretty sure she did. I don’t remember the old games being oversexed, do you? Hopefully this doesn’t indicate a big drop in quality. If I wasn’t familiar with the series I’d write this off as probably being some game whose sole appeal is scantily clad women.

  • Shiki

Koei Tecmo has been doing everything right recently. So please, give us Japanese dub for this game!

I love Fatal Frame and Deception series — all I can say is, the voice acting in those games are terrible. Horrible. Removes any horror atmosphere it was building a second ago because the voice acting either makes you crack up or cringe.

Hell, I would rather have the game without any voice acting if we couldn’t get Japanese dub.

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

Not even gonna lie, those outfits make me interested in this series.
How is trapt? I actually never heard of Deception before TGS

    Is the music good?

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

I’ve only played Kagero and it’s pretty damn good.

      • leingod

Kagero was awesome. Can’t say about the rest of the series either, though.

  • cyberkinghardy

    Trap game? Hmmm..not for me..

  • Pockystix

it’s interesting to see a resurgence of niche games like this.

Will look into it, if we get it here.

  • Ladius

Can’t wait for the return of this series, I really enjoyed its past entries :)

  • Gojira Twit

Ha, every time I think this series is dead and buried it comes back right at the end of a console generation.

  • James Enk

    looking good ladys

  • s07195

    Now introducing… Youtube embedded videos… in 3D!!
No seriously, I was a bit shocked to see the embedded video cover more of the page than the usual bit.

    • Juan Andrés Valencia

I tried the 3D conversion and it’s horrendous. But I guess it’s the future of embedded videos?!

  • shadowind

I’m going to ask my friend who works for Tecmo Koei Europe while I’m at the MCM London Expo Comic Con this weekend if this game’s coming out over here in the West.

  • http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/recognition/21421.html?type=4 Kashell

So, we have four fiercely dressed females setting traps upon humans? I think I’m in love. Now I have to learn more about the series.

  • http://s932.photobucket.com/ usagi_san

Verza is my fav – reminds me of L/Risty from Queen’s Blade. Damn! Must be hard to run wearing heels that high.

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

I’ve never played any of the games in this series, but this as got me interested. The character design is so beautiful. Hope this gets localized as well =^_^=

    • Skeptika Crediblus

I played a demo of Deception 2 once. basically, it’s a puzzle game where you’re drawing people into traps, and boinging them from one to the next, as you can see in the video. It was interesting, but not enough to get me to buy the game, because leading people into the intricate trap machine was all you did.

      • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

Ah, I see. Thanks for the input. I’ll have to try it out and see =)

  • Kai2591

I have zero knowledge on this series. But seeing that this is already the fourth game must mean it has been received well…right?

Can someone enlighten me please? What is it about? What’s the gameplay like? Is it great? and why is it great?

and damn, those character designs are nice. Anybody knows who’s the illustrator? Must hunt Pixiv account if any!

    • GibbRS

It’s the 5th game actually. It shows the 4 previous ones at the beginning of the video. I’m not sure why Siliconera is calling this Deception IV blood ties, as it looks like the title at the end of the video says “Kagero: Darkside Princess”, and the narrator even says that in English at the end.

I have the first 4 games, they’re all very similar but a lot of fun. It’s kind of a macabre puzzle game more than an action game. You setup traps around a room in such a way that you can c-c-c-combo kill the random guards who have really predictable AI. I say that, yet the games are really fun in a “whoa I shouldn’t be laughing at this” kind of way.

      • Kai2591

        Haha I see. Sounds fun!
        Thanks for the info~

  • Brimfyre

Most of the reason I bought a Vita, is that I think it will get a lot of Japanese games brought over, that normally wouldn’t be, because they will be desperate for games. It’s a gamble, sure, but I hope this makes it over for that reason alone.

If all else fails it’s region free.

  • leingod

A girl for every taste :)

Also, those trap combos look awesom-wait … did that last girl’s clothes explode? O_o

  • Aristides

Can’t wait for this to come out ^_^
