Monster Hunter 4 Collaboration With One Piece Brings Chopper Into The Game

By Ishaan . October 29, 2013 . 10:29am

Monster Hunter 4 has already seen a few notable collaborations with the Fairy Tail manga, Nintendo’s Super Mario and Zelda games, and even with a Capcom magazine. Its next collaboration, however, is possibly an even bigger deal.

Anime News Network reports that the latest issue of Weekly Shounen Jump magazine reveals a collaboration between Monster Hunter 4 and One Piece, in celebration of the One Piece manga having sold 300 million copies.

The collaboration will allow you to recruit Chopper from One Piece as an assistant fighter. He will come with an “Excited Chopper” armour and a wooden branch as a weapon.

What other abilities Chopper will have is unknown at this time. We’ll have more to report as details are made available. In the meantime, here’s some food for thought—the next major One Piece game is a Monster Hunter-inspired title itself, and is scheduled for 3DS release this November.

And here I thought we could hunt Monster-Chopper….

    • Ferofax

      Nobody hunts Monster Point Chopper.

    • Guest

      that’s because of his reward… 50 berries… too low

  • konsama

O man, that’s so awesome, i’m starting to think why they didn’t just make a full mario and luigi costume for felynes instead of making them look all creepy. >_>

  • This is crazy. A Pokémon collaboration has to be coming at this rate. It’s like throwing money away if they don’t do it. Pokémon Co. have been more open to crazy things these past couple of years, too.

    • Tom_Phoenix

It makes you wonder if we’ll finally see the long-awaited SMT x Pokémon crossover.

      • That image gets me every single time. I do think it would be really interesting. Just… SMT might be a bit _too_ dark for Pokémon.

        • neocatzon

Several light-hearted demons like Jack Frost won’t hurt..

        • Tom_Phoenix

Oh, absolutely. As much as I would love to see such a crossover, realistically speaking, the chances of that happening are practically nil. Nintendo would never want to associate the child-friendly Pokémon with something as dark as SMT.

Plus, they no doubt still remember the time when Pokémon was accused of promoting Satanism. If they ended up releasing a game where a Pokémon trainer could side with Lucifer and kill God….well, the end result would be something like this (starts at 1:50):

Still, it’s entertaining to think the possibilities such a crossover would provide. A titanic clash between Red and his Pokémon versus the Demi-fiend and his demons? That would be epic beyond belief! XD

          • Yeah, from a creative standpoint, Pokémon definitely does have enough foreboding mysteries present in the respective stories of each game to incorporate into SMT. The Mew/Mewtwo cloning, the legendaries from Gold/Silver, the Unown tombs, Kyogre and Groudon etc.

There’s a lot of interesting things they could play around with. Even in Black/White, Reshiram and Zekrom always remind me of the Bionis and Mechonis from Xenoblade.

        • Herok♞

Yanmask’s pokedex entry: “Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry.” I think pokemon is dark enough for said collab.

        • Hinataharem

Eh, they made Demikids, they could think of something I guess.

        • AndyLC

Pokemon is as dark as anything else when you get down to the details:

Mewtwo was created by a scientist who was trying to clone his dead daughter, only the criminal organization Team Rocket would fund his research (for some favors…).

The audio drama of Mewtwo’s birth has him wake up prematurely then get shot to death by security guns… but he ressurects himself (the scientists keep him in a coma to prevent future premature awakenings).

And like every ghost pokemon’s description is “…born from hateful feelings and kidnaps children” :p

Or… [SPOILARS] Pokemon world is created when Demifiend chooses the Yosuga reasn, a world of nonstop battling for all :0!! [/spoilars]

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      all my yeses

    • Pockystix

it’ll be an amazing game where you train pokemon to take down monsters from monster hunter

or a game where you defeat raging evil pokemon

either which way, it’d make stupid amounts of money

  • British_Otaku

It’s getting harder and harder to put this game off till next year… I know the licensed content has a very low chance of making an appearance in the localised version…

A branch of wood was my favourite weapon in Fire Emblem Awakening and the Mario/Luigi costumes for the Felynes are going to be unavailable soon, so I may join the party earlier than expected… >_>

    • Devinja

Yeah they almost for sure will replace the crossovers like last time. Nintendo stuff has a good chance of staying I bet.

  • Minos

    Thank goodness its optional.

    • British_Otaku

Well of course, I had no idea that anyone disliked a manga or anime so much that they are borderline hostile towards little things like this. >_>

      • Minos

Last thing I want is that thing following me, sorry for not liking something that you do.

        • British_Otaku

          … Fair enough.

You are speaking as if it’s Scrappy Doo or Jar Jar Binks, or something really obnoxious… >_> Chopper’s alright.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

yes yes yes!!!! more collaboratios like this !!!…. Pokemon next?! *my dream*

  • GameWinner

    Japan’s biggest titans coming together.

    • AndyLC

“Sora aoi will sing the theme song”

  • J_Joestar

They should have a Happy that can pick you up and drop you to do aerial attacks on the monsters.

  • Jahred Down

“Damnit Jim, I’m a doctor, not an assistant fighter.”

  • First Fairy Tail, then Mario and Zelda, now One Piece!? ARGH! Not only do I want Monster Hunter 4 in English, but I want all these collaborations as well. God damn you, Japan! Why must you be so awesome?

  • Göran Isacson

Welp, there IS precedent for One Piece characters gladly killing gigantic, monstrous wildlife for good eatin’, so it’s not like this is TOTALLY out of the blue… but man Chopper can probably TALK to those monsters getting eaten. I am not sure what I feel about him being part of the hunt.
