Finally A RPG Where You Can Channel Leonardo Da Vinci’s Brilliance

By Spencer . November 5, 2013 . 2:39am

Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss is a set in the same world as another Experience developed dungeon RPG, Labyrinth Cross Blood Reloaded. Both games use Blood Codes which are genetic ties for historical figures as a base for classes.

Take the Academic as example. This class uses Leonardo Da Vinci’s as a Blood Code and gives players abilities like trap detection and item identification.

Minamoto no Yoshitsune’s genome is used for the Tactician class which wears colorful armor and has high attack power.

drpg5 drpg6

Florence Nightingale’s genome is the core of the Healer class which can use recovery spells.

drpg7 drpg8

Himiko’s genome powers the Wizard class. These magicians can use powerful spells, but are weak so they need to be put in the back row.

drpg3 drpg4

Joan of Arc’s genome is used for the Royal Knight class, a knight that excels both in offense and defense.

drpg9 drpg10

The Martial Artist is extremely skilled using a sword and can slice with lightning speed. This class uses Miyamoto Musashi’s genome as a base.

drpg11 drpg12

Genghis Khan’s genome is used for the Archer class which can target enemies in the back row.

drpg13 drpg14

Hattori Hanzo’s genome is the source for the Assassin class. These warriors can take out enemies in one hit and can throw items like shuriken.

drpg16 drpg15

Monks use Xuanzang’s genome and can repeatedly hit a single enemy.

drpg17 drpg18

Abe no Seimei’s genome powers the Summoner class.

Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss comes out on January 23, 2014 for PlayStation Vita. First print copies include an item that lets you save within dungeons, which is really helpful for beginners. And if you’re a DRPG fan you probably have Labyrinth Cross Blood Reloaded. This game unlocks an item that makes dungeons more difficult by increasing all of the enemy’s levels by five.

This looks quite interesting… One of the times i wish i knew how to read Japanese -.-
Edit: I eat history books, so the historic characters as a base for classes is a big plus!

  • 3PointDecoupage

Is this first person liks etrian odyssey?

    • DyLaN

  • Sorensen

…The academic’s uniform looks vaguely like the Demon Gazer from…Demon Gaze. Connection?

  • British_Otaku

I was thinking… “This is definitely a mobile game, don’t get too attached to the artwork or concept!” as scrolled through… >_> I tend to assume that when the title doesn’t make it clear a lot.

I may consider importing this for the Vita in the future, especially as I can’t see myself caring about the first print bonus at all.

  • Dark Zerato

Dungeon crawlers keep coming to VITA. Is this a new trend ?

    • DyLaN

Every console get’em at some points :V

  • Impressionnant

Another great-looking vita game that will never come to the West.

    • DyLaN

Support Demon Gaze when its out. It might helps.

      • Crazy_O

I already plan to preorder a LE the day you are able to.

      • chibidw

Probably about as much as supporting Project Diva F helped the Vita version come to the west………………………

But, what the hell – I wanted Demon Gaze anyway.

  • TheExile285

Why do people think we aren’t getting this? Did everyone forget Demon Gaze is getting localized and this is made by the same devs?

Anyway, the art for this game is godly.

    • That maybe… We just need people to support Demon Gaze to help increase its chances of coming over.

    • DyLaN

Well…. For starter DG is the only one out of the entire series so far tht got localized.

  • I really want this game… So I will pick-up Demon Gaze asap.

Everything in this game just screams, “I want it!”

What other game gives me opportunity to say, “I’m going into a dungeon with Nightingale, Musashi, da Vinci, Joan d’Arc and Genghis Kahn”?

    • DyLaN

      • Not really, but I understand what you mean… It’s more like the Mixi-Max used in Inazuma Eleven GO! Chrono Stone.

  • TrueDefault

Wow I’m loving the art direction!!

  • Morricane

Their choice of historical figures is highly amusing! :D

  • lol at the male summoner. Its a trap!

    • DyLaN

…..I did not notice that ._. Guess my trap-dar needs more fine tuning.

      • ZnTxn

You’re not the only one, I thought it was female only class.

      • Simple. Plays as an academic.

“Take the Academic as example. This class uses Leonardo Da Vinci’s as a Blood Code and gives players abilities like trap detection and item identification.”

  • Aristides

I really hope all the EXP Vita dungeon crawlers get localized. I mean damn they’re pretty good looking. With the popularity EO has harnessed in the west it would be stupid to keep passing up these games. I really do hope Demon Gaze gets lots of traction.

  • ChiffonCake

Hmm, looks interesting. The classes remind me of Fate’s Holy Grail War, which is great, but I’m a little disappointed that half of them use Japanese figres’ genomes… there was some potential for some cool internatonal representation there, but oh well.

I’ll keep an eye on this. Hopefully it won’t be bad.

    • DyLaN

I think the design makes up for it. Just go to the playable character section link I provided above and click BC to see the heroes art.

The article didn’t mentioned the exact heroes used though >_> For example the Tactician ones are Joshua and Moses.

  • s07195

I think one of the summoners is a trap. >.>

  • Buying as many copies of Demon Gaze needed to get this localized as well lol. The artwork and character design are beautiful for each of the classes =^_^=

  • This looks neat, but jeez, lots of dungeon crawlers lately. What happened to RPGs where you explore the world? Bravely Default is the only one coming that I can think of…

    • DyLaN

      Exstetra? Akiba’s Trip 2?

      • Sorry, meant coming out in the US, but of course this is not coming to US/EU anytime soon (or at all) either. I’d really really like to play Exstetra and Akiba’s Trip 2. And Metal Max 4.

    • DesmaX

These are a lot cheaper to make

      • I wonder if someone will stumble upon a formula for making a low-budget, classic-style RPG. Persona 3 was, after all, low-budget, though of course that’s not exactly exploring the world (fairly limited area to explore and randomly-generated dungeons).

        • DesmaX

These dungeon-crawlers (Including P3) normally use random-generated dungeons, in which does reduce a lot of work, since you don’t really need to work on making the dungeons (Just make the cubes for each type of room, and an algorithm to make the randomization. The algorithm could be a problem, but it should be easier than making them manually).

          • I kind of miss level design.

          • DesmaX

Not saying I like this more, but hey, they work on a budget

          • Yeah, don’t get me wrong–better than nothing, and they can still be done well (P3, obviously). I’d love for the good ones to come West.

          • DesmaX

Well, I woudn’t say P3 (I had lots of time when I would get in a floor, and the stair would be right next to me), but P4 was cool. Even though I would’ve liked it more if the dungeons had different stuff.

          • I remember getting quite excited about the level where you’re on a train in P3. It was nice to have a bit of content besides just searching for the treasures/stair. I don’t remember P4 as well, strangely, but I certainly plan to give it a replay on Vita! (After I play P3P)

          • DesmaX

            Well, the full-moon levels aren’t randomized, so…

But hey, those moments were one of my favorites too. Still have to finish P3P

          • Yeah, I just wanted more of the non-randomized stuff, I guess. Still some of the best experiences I’ve ever had in gaming, though, P3 and 4. Lost count of how many times I’ve begun replaying P3 and gotten distracted by something else before finishing.

  • DyLaN

Nice art. My interest is definitely piqued. Btw, the male Tactician reminds me of the MC in HS DxD.
In case any1 is interested, here the character page on the main site.
PS if you click at the BC in the playable character section, it will show the illustration of the heroes used by the class.

Also, am I the only one who LOL at Goldman name and design? That basically Two Face with a HOTD villain name XD

  • Paint my way to victory!

  • artemisthemp

NISA, Rising Star, Ghostlight where is the localization news?

    • Waiting on Demon Gaze, probably.

      • artemisthemp

Demon Gaze is taken by NISA already

        • What I meant to say was, they’re waiting to see how it fares before going onto the next Experience title, I guess.

  • Gojira Twit

That Royal Knight art gives me a serious Kinu Nishimura vibe. After seeing the rest though, I guess it’s just a coincidence.

  • Warboss Aohd

Wot, no Abraham Lincoln genome? Wot if dere are vampirez?

  • PoweredByHentai

I shall channel Leonardo da Vinci’s brilliance… into hentai! :D

  • DeadLineDance

I love how the Japanese have absolutely no qualms about playing with historical figures. Imagine if the USA did that.
Where’s my game with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln as the souls powering giant robots or something?

    • Zero_Destiny

That would be great to see. lol

*aaaaand welp after two minutes in Photoshop and a fight with DIsqus*

      • DeadLineDance

        Bears? Bears!

    • Göran Isacson

That game, sadly, is only in our hearts so far. Maybe one day it will make it into the heart of someone who can actually turn it into a product.
