Deathsmiles Creator Makes A Shooter RPG

By Spencer . November 8, 2013 . 3:23am

Cave, known for making manaic shooters like DoDonPachi, has an interesting concept – a shooter RPG. Don Paccin looks like a cutesy vertical shoot ’em up, but instead of having a ship with a fixed amount of firepower you can upgrade your ship. The game has a fuel system and random items somewhat reminiscent of Japanese social games.

Don Paccin is in development for iOS and Android devices.

cause consoles are IMPOSSIBLE to make money on if you are a small dev. Honestly, i’m console agnostic so i don’t really get all the complaining… it’s a CAVE game, it looks FUN, it’ll be CHEAP (not 80 BUCKS)… so yeah i don’t get it, i’m f****ing excited.

If only Cave would try porting this game to 3DS or Vita.T_T Hell, even if the game is simply E-Shop content i will be more than happy.T_T

    As much as I love Cave…ios/android :(

  • Glad to see I’m not the only one who doesn’t like playing on iOS/Android. Hope this one gets ported to 3DS/Vita/Wii U/anything.

I’m actually working on a shooter/RPG set in the 1920s right now, called “This Just In!” so this looks right up my alley!

    hopefully western release!

Since they’ve released all of their other iOS games simultaneously worldwide, that seems like a safe bet. Android games have lagged behind JPN releases.

Upgrading your ship isn’t such a bad thing. Razor2 and the old Earth Defense Force on the SNES were fun in having you power up your weapons and choose them between stages, rather than the standard pick at the start of the game and collect power-ups version. I could support a new game with that.
But shmups on a touch device? Hell no, it’s the worst possible system for a shmup. I’d be baffled as to why they persist with this crap, but of course there’s the fuel system for them to wring as much money out of people as possible.
Man, Cave, what happened to you?
