Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Will Have More Of An Action Feel To Match The Anime

By Sato . November 8, 2013 . 1:02am

Namco Bandai’s new Sword Art Online game for PlayStation Vita will be made to have more action to match the feel of the actual series, compared to their earlier PSP game. Today, the publisher provided a look at the game’s battle system and its special “Burst” gauge and attack features.

Unlike the PSP title, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, where the battles revolved around auto-attacks, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment introduces a new “Burst Gauge” system to pull off special attacks.

The new action-based system with attacks that are done by pressing buttons to do “Burst Attacks” which use up the meter.

As long as the meter keeps filling up, you’ll get to keep using Burst Attacks; however, while the damage will continue increasing, there’s some sort of “Risk” involved, which is indicated with its own meter to the right of the Burst Gauge.

The “step” feature also uses the Burst Gauge, which is used to do short-dashes towards different directions.

The step feature will have its offensive and defensive uses, as it can be used to evade enemy attacks or quickly dash behind them for a positional advantage.

As long as your Burst Gauge isn’t empty, you’ll get to keep using Burst Attacks and steps, but knowing how to use them and making sure it doesn’t run out will be the key of winning fights.

If things start looking dicey in the middle of your Burst Attack, you can always use a step to cancel the attack for an evasion, then step again towards the enemy to continue doing more damage. The steps will also work for canceling out auto-attacks.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be released for PlayStation Vita next year.

Hopefully they have more usefull skill for Curved SnS and Katana…
Well…The Curved sword skill is okay, but the Shield is nah….

And Katana too…I really like how they make the katana skill consume less sp than other weapon so It’s easier to make chain combo and with Its passive regen sp…But I want some flashy move with Katana here…Either more hit like some of Dual Swords so or Strong but less hit like Axe…

    • DyLaN

Just wondering, since there a katana in IM can you drag Klein to dungeon crawl with you? I heard ppl say you can after levelling his friendship to a certain lvl.

And is it true tht Sinon log in with Medicuboid?

      • echokanon

Never played or followed Infinity Moment’s story. But I think she is not logged with Medicuboid since her real player should not had any problem health wise. But since it is a non-canon story so maybe theres some changes done to it since Lyfa and Sinon were not suppose to be in the game originally anyways.

        • DyLaN

          @razeluxemeitzen:disqus echo

The wikipedia (I forgot is it the chinese or english one) mentioned it on the character section. Apparently she accidentally logged in while testing it. Tht all it says abt it.

          • echokanon

Did a little checking yes Sinon was in Medicuboid while Lyfa was in NERvGear and an unknown bug (will of author/fandom?) occured made them drift into SAO too.

Can’t dig up the reason she is in Medicuboid so maybe it was explained as plot device during her route

      • Raze

        Yes you can…
Of course you need to raise the friendship first…IIRC about 3 bar….

        As for Sinon…
I don’t recall seeing her in Medicuboid or she tell Kirito…

        • DyLaN

Sempai finally noticed him after all his hardwork!

  • Loli Summoner

I’m not really too fond of SAO but I gotta say, this game looks fun.

  • DyLaN

Well, this should address the complaints abt not actiony enough.

    • InfectedAI

I dunno. The trailer looked improved but still slow. Not like it’s going to get localized anyways.

  • fyi1191

lv 97 with 31115 HP. As expected of Kirito.

    • Syn

1 level doubled his HP lol, the all to perfect Kirito.

      • Brandon001

      • Juan Andrés Valencia

Without his magical mysteriously awesome powers the show would have been SO boring considering the romance and drama feel cliched and underdeveloped.

        • Đặng Tấn Đức

Which is why I find it to be a bad show.
Come on, making your MC a Mary Sue isn’t good writing, more like the opposite really. The fights are too predictable, it’s obvious Kirito’s the one that’s gonna come out on top with his Divine Plot Armor of Protection (+98% Asspull chance). This show caters to people who likes to self-insert as the MC when watching anime, and the sad part is that the show itself is based around a MMORPG.

  • Dark Zerato

Bring this game and the rest of the heroines to the West, BANDAI.

    • Renaldi Saputra

is SAO a part of Jump series?

      • Dark Zerato

No, it’s a novel on dengenki. JUMP is only for manga.

        • DyLaN

I think RS meant tht since its not part of a Jump family, there little to no chance of it coming over.

  • TheExile285

I hope Namco brings this Jump Feista

  • Brandon001

thought that was saber at fist glance

    • Đặng Tấn Đức

I thought it was Noel from Blazblue. :p

      • TheExile285

She looks ALOT like Noel lol

  • Raltrios

Er, was Asuna’s skirt always that short? I think I recall it being a tad longer…

  • Prinnydoom

While i love the look of this game there is one thing that bothers me about it. Kirito is using dual blades all the time now and yet he kept it secret for so long. Just seems like maybe it should be the same way it was in the anime like an event skill. Anyway its all looking promising.

    • David García Abril

Kirito kept the skill a secret because he didn’t want to draw too much attention to himself. But eventually he was forced to use it in front of a bunch of people anyway, and after that the information was in the open.

After that, Kirito uses the skill most of the time, since there was no point in keeping it a secret anymore.

(Seriously, I think I know this series too well for my own good… lol)

Hope Namco is bring to the West

  • Ex_Vorgier

I’m amazed that god awful series took off.

    • God

why is it so awfull? i found it pretty interesting, even when i didn’t really like the romance factor in it…

  • Aristides

I would really like for this to get localized :(
