A Few Early Details On Miiverse For Nintendo 3DS

By Ishaan . November 13, 2013 . 9:30am

Miiverse, Nintendo’s social network for gamers that own Nintendo devices, is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in December, and a few early details as to what the 3DS version will allow you to are available now.

Like the Wii U version, the 3DS version of Miiverse will allow you to share handwritten messages and drawings with other Miiverse users. Additionally, you’ll also be able to grab and share screenshots of games that support the screenshot feature. Finally, like on Wii U, the 3DS version of Miiverse will allow one to mark posts as spoilers with hidden text.

Once Miiverse is added to the 3DS, you’ll be able to access it from the top row of the Nintendo 3DS touch screen. Since Miiverse is an OS-level app, you will be able to access it while playing games.

Nintendo also say you’ll be able to create Miiverse posts while you aren’t connected to the Internet, and share them once you get online.

In order to use Miiverse on 3DS, you’ll require a Nintendo Network ID. Parents will want to note that you can block children’s access to Miiverse entirely, or if you prefer, restrict Miiverse features, allowing content to be read but not posted.

The Pokémon board will be flooded with “I GOT SHINYS” posts. Mark my words.

On the other hand, this will greatly help people to trade Pokémon.

    • ZnTxn

Don’t forget the friend code spam thanks to the friend safari, and people requesting legends or non-available pokemon.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

Pretty much this: “Oh ma grard I gots a Shiny!! and BTW my safari has perfect EV sunkern! My Friend code is XXXX-XXXX-XXXX”

      • J_Joestar

Can’t wait for lots of Hex Maniac art on Miiverse!

on another note, you just reminded me how depressing it feels to have Sunkern in my Safari…

      • mike dickson

oh god that sunkern so beautiful

      • That thing will hunt me on my dreams >_>;

  • Audie Bakerson

“games that support the screenshot feature”

Just games with a pre-existing screenshot function, or will this add more screenshotting?

    • Taedirk

That’s the part that’s been bugging me, too. The screenshot they feature on the 3ds Miiverse page is from Luigi’s Mansion which doesn’t have an innate screenshot function. That makes me hopeful it’ll be on by default and has to be explicitly disabled by developers/publishers (Final Fantasy VC games on Wii U do this).

      • Zero_Destiny

I didn’t notice it but after going back and re-watching you’re right! There was a screenshot posted to the Miiverse of Luigi’s Mansion in the Nintendo Direct footage today. :)

      • Audie Bakerson

Or perhaps the exclusion is for games like Monster Hunter 4 (currently the one one as far as I know) which disallow the web browser (and likely Miiverse) when in-game so it can use more of the system’s resources.

      • InfectedAI

Why do they do the FF games on the VC do that? Why would you want to disable screenshots?

        • Taedirk

Because Squeenix no longer uses logic when making decisions.

  • Zero_Destiny

So pretty much like the Wii U then, that’s good to hear. Looks like they’ll be trying to phase out Swap Notes now with Miiverse like I thought. In theory it should be a pretty good alternative since it essentially does most of what Swap Notes did, and is better monitored.

I’m honestly hoping that it means we can get a much wider array of screenshot compatible games in the future, like the Wii U. It’s not 100% but most of the games have had screenshot capabilities lately (at least all the ones I’ve played have lol). Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still only limited to certain games for the 3DS though. >____>

    • J_Joestar

but… there is no Nikki! T_T

      • Miss_Madness

        Nikki lives in our hearts.

    • InfectedAI

Nothing will replace being able to see my friends actually draw bit by bit.

  • Go2hell66

why are nintendo so terrified of letting us type our messages?

    • Typed letters have sharper edges, dangerous for the kids.

    • ronin4life

Where did it say you can’t?

      ? _.

    • Zero_Destiny

Huh? You can type your messages out on the Wii U. And in fact the Nintendo Direct even showed footage of typed (not written by the stylus) writing on the 3DS Miiverse. Soooooo huh? O__o

      • Go2hell66

so they finally changed it, took them a damn long time

  • fireemblembeast

Wow this sounds great! I look forward to using it

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Does this mean Nikki has a new job?

    • idrawrobots

      I wish.

    • hazelnut1112

They can make a Miiverse memorial for Nikki.
      Which will be pretty depressing…

  • Can you, like, type a text post? I do not have good drawing skills, or even handwriting skills, especially not with a stylus on a screen.

    • Yes, you can.

      • Yaaaay. Now the whole world will be forced to see my whine (presumably in extremely short text messages) when an action game is frustratingly hard and I’m beating my sofa in helpless rage.

  • hazelnut1112

One thing I wanna know is if I don’t have a Wii U and don’t have a Nintendo ID.
If I make a Nintendo ID on the 3DS first, can I transfer my ID to a Wii U when I purchase one?
I know PSN did that when I registered a PSN ID on the PSP first and was able to transfer it on the PS3 a few years later with no problems. Was wondering if you could do the same with this.

    • PreyMantis

Your NID is tied to your email, so yes, you can.

      • hazelnut1112

Good to hear. Looking forward to this update.

  • Spirit Macardi

Now I’ll be able to pester Namco for a new Klonoa game across two consoles :D

  • ZnTxn

Now to spam Inazuma Eleven art on Miiverse. Maybe that way we’ll get at least the GO! series… ONE CAN ONLY HOPE, OK?!

  • Eder García

“In order to use Miiverse on 3DS, you’ll require a Nintendo Network ID. Parents will want to note that you can block children’s access to Miiverse entirely, or if you prefer, restrict Miiverse features, allowing content to be read but not posted.”
good to hear that… now #FreeNikki

  • Tg

So, Spotpass Swapnote has sort of returned…..in a way. Well, good for me if I can send picture messages to friends far away again.

  • ShadowDivz

    …isn’t that want swapnote…did?

  • Ferofax

They completely forgot about the Game Notes feature, AGAIN.

When you suspend a game and access Game Notes, you can see a perfectly frozen 3D top screen and bottom screen — all that’s missing is a “Save Snapshot” button, and voila! Snapshots for ALL 3DS GAMES. Plus, you’re not restricted to taking snapshots whenever the game lets you– you can suspend a game AT ANY POINT, which would have meant snapshots anytime, anywhere. Mid-flight, mid-jump, mid-cutscene, etc.

…shame, so much potential still untapped.
