Super Mario Galaxy Stage In Super Smash Bros. Will Have Gravity Effects

By Ishaan . November 15, 2013 . 8:30am

The Wii U version of the new Super Smash Bros. game will include a stage based on Super Mario Galaxy, a screenshot on its official website reveals.

Additionally, director Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed via Miiverse that, yes, there will be Mario Galaxy-like gravity effects at play in this stage. Sakurai stated: “The pull of gravity emanates from the center of the planet, so this will require using brand-new tactics.”

Note that this stage has only been confirmed for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Earlier in the year, Sakurai shared that one of the main differences between the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game would be in the stages that each one includes, with the Wii U version including stages from console games and the 3DS version from portable ones.

Oh man, I can see this stage causing some head aches and odd ledge grabbing. Awesome!

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

And nobody will use it because “muh balance” despite it being cool as hell.

    • idrawrobots

I will use the crap out of this level!

    • HappyOnion

juuust wanted to say that even my competitive group plays on the gimmick stages.makes for hilarious twists! :D

but sadly,i know quite a few that will disregard the stage solely for that fact :/…im playing this stage tons thou. especially if they add a lot of the ost as bg options..the soundtracks were amazing for smg 1 and 1 =w=

heres hoping they add rosalina also <3

you’re so cool taking shots at competitive players that have no bearing on how you yourself play the game

      • Nothing wrong with competitive play, however this game becoming one that it went as far as being used in ‘official tournaments’ was i’m sure never the intention from those at Nintendo, but yeah, who knows what they intended with this game in the first place since the 64 version. It’s the competitive/tournament hungry players with the ‘tude that use this game as their hunting ground that I think gave birth to all this unwanted hate towards such a concept for this particular series.

I don’t know, that level looks fun as hell and pretty.
Plus it looks like you can only knock out only by air. Meteor smashes are useless here.

    • Not really, even competitive groups sometimes play on this kind of stages just for fun. Me, for example, I’m not really into competitive but I did played on Final Destination mostly because it didn’t gave any handicap to any character and was balanced in Brawl, but sometimes I would play on the weirdest stages!

  • Mario Galaxy stage? Sign me up.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Fox Drop like a rock, In this stage hes going to love air combos. Oh and Falco is going to be op here XD

  • SirRichard

So, does that mean we’ll be seeing a 3D Land stage for the 3DS version, maybe? Could be cool.

    • Niko Sandwich

Actually, I believe we’ve seen it. It’s a moving level that plays out like a 3D Land stage.

  • I’ll play on this stage with all items on very high.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

This stage looks really nice. The gravity is surely going to be able to to screw/brought advantage to player there.

i remember how dissapointed i was when brawl didn´t had anything related to galaxy, glad it´s not the case this time :)

    • Heisst

Galaxy was released merely 1 month before Brawl’s original release date you know.

      • Yeah, but if Sony’s recent brawler taught us anything it’s that release dates mean nothing. It wouldn’t have been that hard for the guys behind Galaxy to reach out to the guys behind Brawl.

That said, Smash tends to feed better on nostalgia than the latest, greatest things, so maybe it was wiser not to.

playstation allstars was an advertisement fest

          • Kelohmello

Smash is as well. It’s fun to play as all your favorite Nintendo characters and smash stuff up, but it’s also an important medium for Nintendo to spread awareness of their IPs and generate interest.

          • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

you are missing my point. All the characters announce in PlayStation AS were base on upcoming games.

SSB only add main representative of the franchise or ip as a playable characters. It not for advertising purpose. It to bring them together.

Superbot were gonna do the same but they kept advertising upcoming games.

          • Heisst

Roy’s game wasn’t even out when he was put in Melee.

          • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

            in Japan

Marth and Roy were going to be Japanese exclusives.

          • Heisst

…Yes? What does that matter? Where else was it going to be released? And even if it were japan-only or not it still doesn’t change the fact that Roy’s inclusion was undoubtedly a 100% marketing scheme.

Another thing, they announcements for the characters in SSB4 most of the time fit with said character’s series new entry release, Sakurai even advertised WWHD on Miiverse alongside Toon Link’s reveal.

Like the idea, but unfortunately, it likely won’t be used in tournaments. And probably rightfully so.

    • It’s a stage to have fun in, sounds all right to me :)

    • s07195

My favorite stages in Brawl have never been competitive stages though… It’s not like I’m competitive, but interesting stages like this are why I play Smash Bros.

    • Hunts Rattata

Why not? We don’t know anything about how the gravity effects will work; it won’t necessarily be Spear Pillar levels of chaotic.

  • hazelnut1112

    -Rosalina confirmed for 3D World
    -Galaxy level in Smash

  • s07195

    I’m only getting the 3DS version… ;_;
Big fan of Galaxy 1 and 2… T_T
