Freedom Wars Allows You To See How Much Jail Time Your Buddies Have Left

By Sato . November 19, 2013 . 9:10pm

God Eater makers Shift and Street Fighter IV co-developers Dimps will be helping out Sony World Wide Studios in the development of Freedom Wars, and this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine also shares additional gameplay details on the upcoming PlayStation Vita game.

As you may already know, in Freedom Wars you will be fighting to mitigate the million year prison sentence that was given to the protagonist at birth by taking on giant enemies called “Abductors”. Famitsu reports that while on multiplayer, you’ll get to see how many years other players have remaining in their sentence.

The magazine also says that the game will put emphasis on short and long-ranged fights and have plenty of Thorn Whip and citizen rescuing action. In some of the rescuing missions, the citizens will be moving, and they compare it to an amusing game of Capture the Flag, where the flag moves around, and you’ll be required to find the best ways to catch up to them.

Freedom Wars is slated for release in 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

  • Sounds good. Another game worth buying a Vita.

  • Go2hell66

you sure this isn’t a death note sequel?

    • Vernauth

at first I thought this was something related to death note

  • benhofb

Hmmm. I just really hope the missions vary and the story is good. I can see how the “capture the flag” style game play could get repetitive very quickly.

  • JustThisOne

    Wait… So… what happens once you’re “free”?

EDIT: How come replies to this comment are being flagged for no apparent reason? :X

    • tubers

You find out there’s no actual freedom.

aka back to grinding for loot for Multi-Player :P

    • d19xx

You get to sit infront of your computer all day and watch funny cat videos…

    • Raze

You can only be free when you’re dead…

    • Romancer Ecclesia

      hopefully, post game.

  • Dark Zerato

I wonder if the protagonists can actually live a million years in jail. Something is wrong with the court.

    • Hraesvelgr

It’s the same idea as people in real life getting multiple life sentences + 99 years or something.

  • Pipe

Why did they even change the games name? Panopticon sounds so much better than “Freedom Wars”

    • tubers

Yes. Could’ve at least kept the name in the title:

      Freedom Wars: Panopticon
      Panopticon: Freedom Wars

    • Lumi

not to mention soo much more searchable.

    • MrRobbyM

I can see why they’d change the name, but “Freedom Wars” just sounds a little too much like a generic, low-budget title that you’d probably see on iOS.

      • tubers

        LOL true!

    • leingod

I believe Panopticon is one of the factions? As long as I know the game was never actually called that.

      • tubers

I think that’s Sleeping Forest. One of the main NPCs seem to have it written down on her headset.

  • Pockystix

can I just mention I really dig the artstyle?

it’s kind of like Takeshi Obata and Kazuma Kaneko fused together to make a dark sci-fi fantasy game

  • It’s a shame this won’t be coming Stateside.

    • RisukuAozora

Can’t say that for sure tho. We can hope that it frees itself from that fate.

      • Magicks

Oho~ I see what you did there. ;D

      • tubers

Not in a “million years”. :P

    • Saintdante

It’s being developed by SCEJ the chances of it being localized are fairly high.

    • Syn

Almost everything that has been made by SCEJ for the Vita has been localised, so I say theres a pretty high chance.

    • brian

      It’s a shame isn’t called Panopticon.

  • Yan Zhao

Playing just for the sick art.

  • artemisthemp

I really hope been able to see another guys prison sentence ain’t gonna affect the MP bad

    • TheExile285

      why would it?

      • artemisthemp

Their could be elitist, that got butt hurt, because they got beaten by a guy with prison sentence than them self.

        • TheExile285

unless the game has voice chat on by default, it won’t matter lol

  • NimbusStev

I don’t know anything about the game itself, but based on the concept and the image above, I am very intrigued! Despite its dismal sales, it seems like the Vita is starting to build up a pretty impressive library.

  • Earthjolly

Slowly but surely the Vita is turning into a real powerful handheld. The art style is superb

  • 07thCrow

    …Is that you, Light?

  • Ric Vazquez

I hope it turns out as good as I think it will be
