Boogiepop, Holo, And Maou Sadao Join Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax

By Sato . December 10, 2013 . 5:45pm

Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax already features iconic characters from different light novel series, such as Sword Art Online and Durarara!!, but fans of other titles such as Spice and Wolf, Boogie Phantom, and Hataraku Maou-sama! will also have something to look forward to, in the recently revealed support characters.

Maou Sadao from Hataraku Maou-sama!

After being defeated by the hero, Maou visits Tokyo, Japan. He plans to conquer Japan, but first he must work his part-time job at the local “Magronald’s” joint at the Hatagaya station square.

Maou’s attacks consist of him running up to his target and pulling off speedy attacks. While they tend to have low damage output, if you meet certain conditions, you could unleash his demon lord powers.

Boogiepop from Boogiepop Phantom

When enemies of the world appear, Boogiepop appears as her alter-ego, a high school girl by the name of Touka Miyashita. According to an urban legend said among the girls, Boogiepop is reputed to be an angel of death, who appears to take the life of beautiful girls before they turn ugly.

Boogiepop’s attack has quite the range, which is also hard to evade; however, there seems to be some sort of catch that can make it a little tricky to use from the start to end of it.

Holo from Spice and Wolf

Holo is a wheat-harvesting wolf deity, who has the appearance of a young girl, but she’s actually a giant several hundred-years-old wolf. She has a huge appetite and can also just about out-drink anyone. She wishes to return to her hometown in the north known as Yoitsu. Holo travels with her partner Kraft Lawrence.

Holo’s supportive skill involves her use of an area-of-effect healing ability, which is put into effect once you approach her healing zone.

Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax will launch in spring 2014 in Japanese arcades and its next location test taking place from December 20 to 22.

  • Afternoon Intergalactic

Spice and Wolf Season 3 please :(

    • Detrimont

didn’t s2 end completely different from what was in the novels though?

  • zferolie

but why is she only support?!

    • DaiRaiOh

Let’s be honest, she wouldn’t be the easiest character to make a moveset for

      • zferolie

I could see her working like Valkenhime from BB… but with a giant wolf.

  • Vash bane

    Boogiepop ? …
I think I remember that show but I don’t remember hmm…I remember this and agents (was this anime like 12 years ago (and agents 6..or 4) ?)

    • Freakmasta

That was one of the weirdest shows I’ve seen.

      • neocatzon

        Really? Into the watchlist then.

        • Cephrien

You need to read “Boogiepop and Others” or the manga of it” “Boogiepop Doesn’t Laugh” before you watch Boogiepop Phantom. Boogiepop Phantom takes place directly after the events of Boogiepop and Others. Very little will makes sense in it if you do so otherwise.

          • neocatzon

            Thank you~

    • Xerain

More importantly it was one of the first, if not the first light novels. This is after all a light novel fighting game, and many of those later light novels might not have been written if Boogiepop hadn’t set the stage.

  • Roberto

Wait mauo and holo are support only

    that really sad

  • Muffum

Sato why didn’t you say they were support only in the title.

Why you gotta get my hopes up like that man.

Playable Maou in a fighting game never.

Life is despair. And lack of reading comprehension, considering I didn’t read the blurb before clicking.

    • s07195

      Same here. T_T
Though I’m already excited for Holo getting into the game at all. YES!

  • Croix Zapp

Hell yea! holo is the most underrated heroine ever

  • MFW Boogiepop appears in a video game.

  • Linhua

    … Holo. As. Support.

    … DAMN.

= … Right in the Feels.

  • Suriel Cruz

This is so AQUAPAZZA like… Can’t wait.!!!

  • AkuLord3

Boogiepop Phantom…wow that takes me WAY BACK and Horo got Support duty. Horo…Kumagawa…Man what is up with developers and they’re weird choices to make us sad (well mostly with Kumagawa >.>) oh well Now who will be in for the battle roll.

  • Jettythesunfish

Oh my gosh, Holo! I freakin’ LOVED Spice & Wolf. I hope one of her supers is her transforming into that giant wolf form of hers!

(I kinda thought she was a fox this whole time…)

    • Unfortunately, while I feel the same as you and was waiting very much for Holo to be announced, she is only a support character. :(

  • Cephrien

God. If only they had added Boogiepop as an actual, playable character. I would’ve been sold right then and there.

  • ivanchu77

I´m surprised and very dissapointed that Horo is just a support,i thought she was more popular than that :(

I hope when they announce Taiga she´s playable at least and not support too

  • vileBrenman

Hell ya My home boy satan joins the fray. I love devil is a part timer

  • Aristides

Wow both Holo & Asuna in a game. 0-0 pretty amazing.

  • Fsteak

Okay, I am ticked off that Maou got relegated to support! If Kirino can be a playable character, anyone can!

I can even tell you how Maou could strut his moves! He’ll be like the Bang Shishigami of the game!

You start the round as normal Maou. His moves are pretty much gag
worthy, that is, tripping over, throwing burgers and fries whilst
shouting, “Your order!”, smacking people with broom, running people over
with DULLAHAN and using the ultimate anti-demon weapon, the picture of
the landlord in a bikini. Here, he’s fast, but his damage output is
minimal. The only special attack he has access to is that rune punch he
    did to Sariel’s barrier.

What makes him special is a special bar unique to him located over
his power bar. This bar is the ‘Mana Bar’ and increases whenever he
strikes fear into his opponents. This is done via attacking and
performing combos, as well as performing taunts. But, it decreases as
you take hits and the less you are on the offensive. What happens when
    you fill it? OVERLORD MODE.

His theme song from the show, The Devil Regains His Strength,
overrides whatever background music is currently on play. His move set
completely changes and he also has the ability to warp throughout the
field. You get access to his magic and can fire beams and shit. The rune
punch gets an upgrade and does twice the damage it did, its animation
changing to reference episode 5. Furthermore, his final attack is THE

    Badass? Yes.

Why devs? Why you don’t make him playable?!

  • Yan Zhao

Got hype when I saw Maou Sadou was in the game.

Then depressed when realizing hes just a support character :

  • s07195

If this gets a console release, I’m getting it for Holo. Gonna find a way to fit her in some way. >=)
(Though, if supports can be attacked, there isn’t much use- and we don’t know how much health is restored…)

  • Jesse

Even if she’s(?) just a support character, it’s good to see Boogiepop again. =D

  • darkbartz

Support Maou Sadou seems to be a giant indication for Emilia to be playable. It kinda makes sense, lore-wise. Maou can only use his powers in special occasions, fitting of a support while Emilia can use hers pretty much at anytime, so she would be a great playable.

  • porkiewpyne

So I would assume that Emilia should very likely be a playable character which has yet to be announced? Man, would have liked Suzuno…….. :P
