Bravely Second Will Have Larger Fields, More Things To Do

By Ishaan . December 10, 2013 . 11:28am

This week’s issue of Famitsu brings more details on Bravely Second, the sequel to Bravely Default, currently in development for the Nintendo 3DS. Details on the game were provided by producer Tomoya Asano and character designer Akihiko Yoshida.

Magnolia (above) is the main protagonist of Bravely Second. She plays a role similar to Agnes in Bravely Default, and will travel with her at some point in time. Magnolia has been designed to look more adult than Agnes, though, and for this reason, she—and, by necessity, the other characters in Bravely Second—have slightly more realistic proportions. You can read more about Magnolia here.

Since the game is set in Luxendarc like Bravely Default, we assume we’re going to see a few recurring characters, especially since Square Enix’s original announcement revealed that Magnolia had, at some point, rescued Bravely Default’s Tiz Arrior. Asano and Yoshida add that Ringabel’s role in Bravely Second is unknown at present.

Bravely Second’s plot involves a  “Demon King” and the moon, both of which are new additions related to the story. Keep in mind that Magnolia is a self-professed Demon King killer from the moon, and Asano says that her world will be one of the places in the game that you’ll get to explore. A teaser trailer for the game is present in Bravely Default: For the Sequel. [Update: Watch it here!]

Speaking of exploration, Bravely Second’s fields are larger than those of Bravely Default, and the “density” of the game has increased as well. While Second will be adopting a lot of the systems introduced in Bravely Default: For the Sequel, Square Enix say there’s still a possibility that changes will be made in accordance with user feedback from that game.

Bravely Second is currently 30% complete, so it’ll take a little while longer before players are able to get their hands on the game.

I want to see the concept of the moon made by Akihiko Yoshida. Haven’t played bravely default yet but man I’m super excited for this sequel.

  • Neophoton

Shame odds are the trailer that will be at Jump Festa will be the teaser included at the end of BDFS, so we’ll probably have to wait until more magazine scans pop in for future information.

    • I totally read “BDFS” as “Bravely Default Fo Sho”

      . . .

I need to go to bed XD

      • Neophoton

        It’s Fo Sho good.

        …I’m sorry, that was terrible.

  • James Enk

haven’t even complete the first one and they are already teasing us with the sequel, you guys know how to make me give you my money

    • Ric Vazquez

And make me crazy with hype

  • Shippoyasha

I really hope they don’t meddle with the character designs in localizations like they did with the first, giving a girl spats even though the game went out of the way to show a girl off in her bikini. I love the character design in this series and this series doesn’t need the unnecessary censorship drama.

    • Huh? Where was that?

      • MrSirFeatherFang

I think it’s a DLC outfit, here ya go :P
edit: It’s not DLC in For the Sequel, pretty much the version we’re getting in the west.
        thanks for clarifying below!

        • baha

You are allowed to punch me, but I really think the censored one looks better

          • Samsara09

            indeed it does…

          • Arcana Wiz

actually me too. And i think that short shorts are more more pleasant looking than bikinis, and i dont like fanservice in sprites…. but i think it’s just me

          • baha

We just got refined tastes, that’s all :3

          • I agree. Both look pretty good, but the censored one is cuter. I don’t think it was necessary, but still cuter. (And probably more in-character.)

          • Armane

In the scene it appears in (it’s not DLC in FTS), it’s supposed to be embarrassing to Edea (to be wearing such a skimpy outfit). Now it just makes Edea look like some sort of prudish child. So ironically, it’s more out-of-character than in.

          • No, that’s still showing a lot of skin, so I think it still applies. And certainly, she’s fully covered any other time so to have all of her torso and midriff plus cleavage exposed, on top of zettai ryouiki. . . yeah, I think it still works really well. (And it can’t be any less out-of-character if the point is her being embarrassed about exposing skin.)

          • Shippoyasha

I’ll respectfully disagree. Other bikini styled designs passed the bar but this one got singled out. It just seems unfair to me. Both designs are nice, but I don’t like this inferring that bikini are somehow a worse design or unacceptable somehow. I’d rather have it left alone.

          • I think the context usually depends. The way Armane makes it sound, Edea is embarrassed in this outfit, so technically the bikini isn’t worse necessarily, but still uncomfortable. And I think it generally depends on the character.

I see your point, but I’m not sure it applies as much here. (I would completely agree if this were a case of sexually liberated character sporting it and it being handled well, but not too much is lost here.)

          • Virevolte

I like you. You sound like Ringabell in the game. ^^”

        • Lol, I thought it would be a bigger deal than that. Thanks for the link~.

          • MrSirFeatherFang

Although I’m not a fan of censoring in general, this isn’t a game changer. I can live with it lol
            You’re welcome!

        • deadMastershiro

The cencored versión looks kind of like Tiffa from ff7.

        • Xerain

That ribbon on the bottom just doesn’t work on the new top. I’d be OKish with maybe with it if that ribbon wasn’t bothering the heck out of me.

Also the things on her legs don’t really work with the shorts.

What I’m saying is I can get behind the concept of the altered costume, but they really should have pushed it to a total costume redesign instead of just a quick cover up.

        • FlyingPony

I enjoy some amount of fan-service, but have to admit a g-string doesn’t look well on a chibi character..

The censored version look much better.

    • Exkaiser

What was changed in the first BD?

    • Pockystix

I always find the censorship thing hilarious

They censored Tharja in the FE:A DLC beach episode, and somehow made it look even more suggestive, and now they put on spats for Edea. While a bikini bottom shows more skin, spats on their own show off a lot of detail in curves and. . . well, you can imagine what they show well. I think Nintendo has forgotten how to actually censor things, like they did with pokemon swimmers back in the day.

Kinda reminds me of the miniskirt vs short shorts Etna in Disgaea D2

  • baha

“A hint regarding these two plot points is hidden in the secret movie found in Bravely Default: For the Sequel.”

Wait, what? How do I get this secret movie?

    • Samsara09

maybe a secret ending after the true ending…kingdom hearts style?Well, the way things are going, well…I think we in the USA and the rest of the world will have to find it ourselves.Doubt the Europeans are gonna share the goods with us…there is hardly a good walkthrough in youtube.

      • baha

Well, I’m european. If I happen to find it I will definatly spread the knowledge somehow.

        • :D :D :D :D :D

          • Samsara09

well, someone already did the honors.Still, thanks for offering.Good.Man,this bravely default should be nicknamed bravely awesome, that trailer was brilliant.

  • Guh! That’s all just too exciting for me~!

  • Herok♞

I just hope we get the game the first time around, this time and not in an update a year or so later

    • Arcana Wiz

i think it will depend of the first game sales :P

      • Herok♞

Well in anycase someone doesn’t want the game as early as possible for some reason

  • Pockystix

Traveling to the moon sounds fun

we can relieve FFIV with FFVs class system

    • Sydney Losstarot

hmm, a Demon King reminds me of Dragon Quest. The Four Heroes of Light on the DS reminded felt like a breed between Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Its good I like both DQ and FF series.

Oh, and I think Voldemort would like this game since the characters have no noses.

  • Samsara09

well,”Ringabel”…will doubtfully appear in this game,if you get what I mean…but as for him,if Edea and her country are in the game, then he will.
    30% complete ehh?
Then this game will be releasing next year.Doubt it is gonna take so much time, since the ratio between % and spent time is not equal. Some % are harder and take longer to complete, some are pretty short.

    • Neophoton

My shipper tendencies are hoping they both wound up in the next game, and somewhat of a hunch that they will.

  • Arcana Wiz

I already am tempted by the first one articles now there is the second one too…. but glad that they are going well, this can be the start of more games with the old school feel.

  • Sangaz

After playing Bravely Default almost non-stop for the last 5 days, this game is a day-one purchase for me already.

  • Man, I love her devilish smile XD

  • Ban The Jackass

Will the third sequel the Bravely Third? And the tenth, Bravely Tenth? Haven’t even gotten my hands on the first yet I’m already speculating :)

    • Pekola

Well sequels really depend on how it sells worldwide now.

If it tanks, there’s nothing stopping them from making browser/mobile games for the series.

I have a feeling it’ll do well enough, tho.

    • DyLaN

      Someone Returns: Bravely Thirth- *shot*

      • GH56734

That’s not that far-fetched. Since “she” took over the Final Fantasy, she may as well do the same with this spin-off and have a cameo that takes up 90% of the game.
All Hail Lig- *struck by Lightning, dies electrocuted*

      • Exkaiser

        Bravely Return: Third Lightning.

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

    realistic proportions, and that face.

    • Slayven19

Thats not a surprise since the face is always exempt when it comes to anime in japan anyway. Its the bodies that make the most difference anyway.

  • Ethan_Twain

Huh – well that’s kinda cool. Bravely Default is just running through the classic Final Fantasy checklist. We got our warriors of light, our airships, our job system, and our magic crystals in game one. Now game two starts out with teasing the Moon (as featured in FF IV). What other early Final Fantasy content do we predict getting integrated into the Bravely Default universe? My first thoughts include:

Destroying the world as in FF VI. Great way for a sequel to raise stakes and maybe subvert the whole “warriors of light always save the day” song and dance.

A submarine from FF 3. Just seems like it would fit.

A mind controlled evil then good then evil character similar to Kain from FF IV.

  • Slayven19

I can’t wait to see the concept art for more characters, oh and in game models as well.
