Harvest December Brings A Love Story To Japanese 3DSes Next Week

By Eugene . December 11, 2013 . 4:00pm

Small Novel” Harvest December is a downloadable Nintendo 3DS visual novel game from developers Flyhigh Works, that will be released in Japan for just 100 yen ($1). It tells the tale of Masaki Konno, a Tokyo-bred boy whose life is suddenly uprooted as he’s forced to move to a heavily snow-laden backwater country town.

Here, he discovers that both Gods and mankind live in relative peace and harmony, with a female God called Shiro who rides a wolf as one of his encounters. And takes an interest in Masaki. Alongside this God is one of the town authorities’ daughter – Towada Yuki.

It’s love at first sight for Masaki and Towada both… but how will the events play out, and will they be together at the end? Or will Shiro come into play? With the game/novel only covering the one month of December, you’d best choose your decision well to decide in what reads like a likely heart-wrencher of a story.

At just 100 yen, we imagine the game will entice a fair few 3DS owners in Japan. Harvest December will be out on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan December 18th.

  • I wish my English 3DS told me love stories :3

    • PreyMantis

It does with games like Hakuouki, Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, etc.

      • InfectedAI

How is Hakuoki? And is it a good jumping on point? I know there’s games before it and I think an anime.

        • PreyMantis

To be honest, I don’t know because I don’t own the game. However, according to a friend, it’s a pretty good game and just that there’s blood and a sex scene in the game.

  • Max

It’s actually the first of a new series of 3DS mini VNs.

  • XypherCode

Just a dollar? If these VNs are pretty good I wouldn’t mind paying more.
(I probably shouldn’t jinx it) xD

  • One of those times I wish VNs were more popular outside of Japan… This one looks lovely. I particularly like the idea of short VNs released for a low price (so long as they’re written well).
I’m surprised the price is *this* low, actually. Almost seems suspicious???

  • Azul

Seen the manga version a few chapters are translated into English its interesting never knew it was based from a VN till recently

  • sammy11

    hope this comes west <3

  • DivinePhoenix69

Idk if its just me but this trailer really has a somewhat nostalgic vibe to it, almost like an old school anime from the 90’s or something.

Anyways sucks that we’ll most likely never see this stateside. The only publisher im aware of who would even consider localizing something like this is Aksys but even then its kind of wishful thinking.

    • Theofratus ‘Geese’ Lester

People said the same thing about Senran Kagura, so who knows at this point.

I’m a huge fan of visual novels and I’d love for this to be localized, as well.

  • GDI

The last dollar VN I played was from the writer of Folklore, A Scar of the Doll. Now that one was really doujin circa 2000 through and through, with filtered photos and plain box overlays.

This really bumps it up a notch, to circa 2005 or so. I’m surprised that they have so many CGs even, I don’t quite see the profitability in this, even in the JP market.

  • I wonder why they decided to release this on 3DS and not a mobile platform if they only expect 100 yen per sale. That’s mobile app price, and you don’t really need gamepad / buttons for a VN.

  • Sayu Kitawa

Wasn’t this VN being fan-translated ? The TL was at 80% and there was a trial version released.
