Strider Soundtrack Contains Remixes Of Previous Games’ Music

The new Strider game from Capcom and Double Helix comprises of a number of remixes of the older Strider titles as part of its soundtrack. You can listen to some of them in the video embedded below, courtesy of Capcom.

“I can definitely say that ALL of the music for Strider HD is inspired by music from the previous games,” says the game’s composer, Michael John Mollo. “I grew up playing Strider on the NES so I was already familiar with some of his tunes. This music is very iconic and both Double Helix and I wanted to make sure we paid homage to the memorable melodies as well as the sound palette of the previous games.”

“We decided early on that it would be a good idea to re-arrange some of the classic Strider tunes for the game and we spent a good deal of time listening thru Strider’s back catalog of material to hand pick certain tunes.  Of course we had to use “Raid.” That was the first one we all agreed on.  We also decided to include “Coup,” “Mass Cloud,” “Armed Fortress,”  “Egypt,” “Siberian Tunnel”, and the original “Kazakh Theme.”  We thought those tunes were the most iconic and best suited to accompany Strider as he enters the modern day.  The remainder of the material consists of original tracks that I composed for the game.”

Strider is in development for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

why are they playing the NES versions and not the original arcade versions? Edit: oh, they are in places

The NES version had a different soundtrack.

that’s what i was getting towards. why use the NES version when it’s not the original? seems weird and like they don’t get the game that well

IIRC both the manga, the NES game (that follows the manga) and the Arcade game was made around the same time, no? Either way, the NES game is a completely different deal from the Arcade one. The open gameplay of the new strider also slightly resembles the NES game more, so I’m okay with this.

80′s Capcom was a master of making great music out of the NES soundchip. It would be a waste not to revisit those tunes.

I still prefer Hiryu’s theme from ULTIMATE MARVEL VS CAPCOM 3.
