  • AokiShizuku

Curious about the Wii U portion of the presentation. This year wasn’t as good as it could have been for the Wii U unfortunately. Here’s to hoping next year Nintendo gets the Wii U back on it’s feet and gains more supporters!

    • Guest

Good. They’re doing it just frequently enough, so I’m not losing hope or interest.

Please, tell us more about Smash Brawl, X, and Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem !

  • British_Otaku

Hyped, expecting to see a new character announcement for Smash Bros even if I’m not even expecting the game next year. Pretty sure Kirby 3DS will get a release date or rough time for Europe + America in this one.

  • James Enk

i hope Nintendo shows more WiiU games but there are also some 3DS games i want here in Europe SMT IV and DQVII

    • I really hope SMT IV is mentioned, it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything…

      • DeadLineDance

You guys don’t have SMT IV yet?! You poor dears! I’m hoping they announce it for you then!
(I’m, I’m not even trying to be cutting here, that sucks.)

      • The_Superior_Spider-Mon

i really hope SEGA publish SMT IV in Europe

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

          Nintendo is

  • Wake

I’m cautiously optimistic. I made the mistake of giving into the hype for VGX. I’m expecting more info on DKC and Bravely Default. I’m also expecting a Wii U NA release for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

  • Tatsuya Fabre

Region lock removal update and new X info. Two things Nintendo, yet I know you won’t deliver.

    • Why ask for things that they’ve already said no to, and then act like you’re disappointed later? Region lock removal is never happening, and they said games through Spring 2014. X is nowhere near that timeframe.

      • Tatsuya Fabre

I don’t know… I just hate seeing Nintendo waste their potential these days.

        • Brimfyre
        • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Ummm? I don’t understand this potential talk here?

          • Tatsuya Fabre

I feel that they have the experience and following to be able to take a few risks and do more than another Mario rehash. I always liked Nintendo but they’ve been slipping lately.

          • idrawrobots

Yeah Wonderful 101 has done great I’m sure.
And I’ll take a Mario “rehash” like 3D World over just about any other rehash.

          • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Umm. They have make more than Mario u know right?

Wonderful 101 and Pikmin just release this year too.

        • Herok♞

I don’t see how not going back on a business decision is a waste of potential.

          • British_Otaku

I don’t know, even if it is completely different, they seem open to people from different countries and regions debating and drawing while focused on games which may or may not have released in their region.

It is nice to promote games coming later in a region (Bravely Default – America gets it in February), but if a game isn’t coming along or if you are one of the five people who import a title in advance of localisation, having more people playing the game, sharing screenshots and promoting it seems like a great use of their potential.

          • Herok♞

In that case however if you are one of the 5 people who imported, that means that, that region lost a sale, I remember a few months ago that you guys nearly didn’t get a official release for SMT:DS2 because most people imported, meaning that company would have lost money in its market, granted I am not saying its good that SMT IV is taking a while but at least whatever company brings it over knows that its investment is safe when its finally released. Wasted potential is something like the Gamepad isn’t being utilized well on the wiiu, especially when you even claim a small amount of the market imports.

          • British_Otaku

Depends, if every time I’ve been one of those five people I have both promoted a game immensely (Senran Kagura, Brawl) in advance of the actual release perhaps increasing sales by much more than than that one loss AND bought the game when it released in my region.

Of course, most people will import in specific cases when DS1 isn’t confirmed or released in Europe for years and DS2 is already released in English for Americans. Do you think I’m waiting for Etrian Odyssey 2 + 3 collection on 3DS (you know that 4 is out everywhere and the “Untold” remake of 1 is nearly out in Europe) or I’m going to import 2 and 3? (Answer: Not even finished with the first one, plan to get Untold before 2-4, still my only option is importing)

Keeping people waiting is a means to increase importers, lose good will (the European Overclocked bugs oh dear) and lose interest as we saw with Persona 4 Arena which arrived a year later with numerous delays and the infamy of being the only region locked PS3 title.

On wasted potential like the gamepad not being used well, I agree there. I sorta took the “potential” term because it seemed like a more direct response to you and the brash statements Tatsuya Fabre is making. I still see locking off players from more experiences, when Nintendo are open to at least an open forum of discussion about games which aren’t coming any time soon or ever for some as pretty contradictory.

Since I’m one of the gold owners of Devil Survivor 2 on the DS, probably one of the last releases for the system, anything can and should be allowed to happen. :P

        • Suicunesol

Nintendo’s sales will skyrocket once they remove region-lock, I’m sure.

          • TalesOfBS

Skyrocket? no. But that would make a lot of their customers happier and give some japanese developers a few more sales.

      • tubers

I guess some are hoping for Nintendo to give in like how some do when dating or trying to date, after saying so many “no”s at first.

    • GH56734

Technically the 3DS region locking comes from the software itself. Nintendo actually released the Louvre Tour cartridge (btw the museum didn’t allow Miyamoto to add optional easter eggs WHAT WERE THEY THINKING… ahem).
      Said cartridge is region-free.
So “region free” did happen. Sort of. As a one-time deal.

I hope Namco would make Super Robot Taisen region-free since they know they won’t localize it, and same goes for other publishers for JP-only games. But with their GC releases wiping saves if not used on Japanese consoles, and Square actually rendering import of DQ X pointless since they block IP adresses outside Japan (not even Nintendo did that with their first-party stuff)… makes me think third-party publishers are okay with this.

      • TalesOfBS

Only a few of them probably like region locking. But i think Nintendo makes it mandatory for every game they license, so it is not up to the publishers to choose, just to accept.

  • PreyMantis

It’s kinda disappointing that they only show the games we already know. Great, new info on the games, but I’d rather find out and be surprise by finding these things on my own when I’m paying them. I just hope they show more than games that were already announced.

    • InfectedAI

Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll announce localizations for already known games.

      • PreyMantis

I hope so, too. I hope they surprise us tomorrow by revealing something new, and not just things we already know.

    • I am curious about the kind of details they’ll show, but since I’ve noticed them announcing games closer to their release date (as others have pointed out), maybe we won’t see news on a new title until they plan on releasing it soon after. So. . . we could see a new game or two anyway~.

      • PreyMantis

I guess I’m guilty since I want to see more detail on Monolith Soft’s new game and FE X SMT. I’m also curious at what Miyamoto is working on.

        • Ohhh! I forgot Miyamoto is working on a new title.

  • NightzeroAX

Mario Kart 8. I need dat info.

  • Thatguy

    Rune Factory 4 info?
You know, because, it can be last RF game… *sob*

    • landlock

It is meant to be releasing Q1 2014 so you never know.

    • TalesOfBS

I would throw money at screen right now for a RF game on the wiiu.

      • Thatguy

I broke my monitor, when throwed money at screen for RF game on WiiU.

  • Some information on Bravely Default might be fun, even though it’s been out in Japan for a while.

    • British_Otaku

We can expect that much for the American ND, they still haven’t got the game or even a demo so I doubt promotion is in full throttle.

  • Death Saved

    Please say something about X.

    • Brimfyre

      Something about X.

      • Death Saved

        Thank you :D

  • Ban The Jackass

Fabbbbulous. More trailers, more giddiness for me! *throws money repeatedly at Ninty.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

    X!!!!! please.T_T

    • TomSkylark

They could at least give it a bloody name at this point, no? :)

      • GH56734

You know, they actually did release a game named “X” (with a subtitle in Japanese which is just how they pronounce the English letter) around 1992, for the Game Boy (it’s a 3D FPS by the way, as incredible as it sounds… and a Japan-only deal)
They can very well release a game whose name is a single letter. But that leads me to think they probably won’t do it again since they have done it before already, because of conflicting trademark issues (if the name can be registered at all, that is, outside Japan).

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

Only DKCTF and Mario Kart 8 is releasing.

      • idrawrobots

I hope that’s not it for retail because as great as both look, that would be lame.

  • AuraGuyChris

It’ll remind us Americans why Bravely Default is coming much later for unknown reasons they don’t wish to say.

    • NewestType

Maybe because its a new liscense which requires more for the us outdated policies than in europe. There. save yourself the trouble of both watching and choosing not to use googlepedia

    • ronin4life

Because they want to treat the EU special to increase regional sales has always been my Theory.

    • I think most people just assumed that they didn’t want to release Bravely Default so close to Zelda in the U.S., and frankly, that’s a good argument.

  • Shadowman

Noo! Too soon I, don’t have internet yet T____T

    • InfectedAI

      Then how are you here!?

  • Rogerrmark

Do we have a chance of any annoucement?

    Very unlikely?

    • TalesOfBS

      3DS? maybe…
      Wii U? haha. (sad truth)

  • idrawrobots

Since the only Wii U title from Nintendo I know of for spring is… I can’t wait to see what they show!

  • ElAbuelo69

If not then just cancel this Nintendo Direct.

    Just kidding :)

But hopefully they do say something about DQ…

    • J_Joestar

they’ll probably do more to hype BD:FF. I wouldn’t expect DQVII news before BD hits at least.

    • Kaetsu

Dragon Quest 7, Dragon Quest 10 and Dragon Quest Monsters. We’re missing THREE games.

    • Virevolte

I finally witness it… the European SMT Spirit Bomb !
      Kaio Shin would be proud.

  • Ony

    Retro Studios.

    • To be honest, I’m okay with Retro not doing Metroid again. They did three fantastic games and left their mark on it, and that’s great. I’d like to see a Japanese team handle the next Metroid again.

Other M was a very stylish game. It had its faults, but I’d like to see them build upon what that game did, and I don’t think Retro are well suited to that. Their artistic take on Samus alone is more along the lines of walking armoured tank than the sleek race car she was in Other M.

      • idrawrobots

Other M could be turned into something amazing if expanded upon.

      • Arcana Wiz

to be honest, i would be happy with any metroid announcement.

        • You and me both. Hell, I’ll take Zero Mission on 3DS Virtual Console.

          • InfectedAI

That would require putting GBA games on the 3DS eShop.

          • Shh. Hope is what makes the world go round.

      • JoJo_649

I would prefer Prime 4, however if they take Other M’s gameplay and adapt it into a huge connecting world full of secrets with a small narrative, I would be okay, since Other M’s biggest fault was their attempt of turning Metroid into Metal Gear, I never saw the point of that.

        • IMO, Other M’s main faults were that the world felt too limiting in terms of where you could go and when, and that the music was terrible. (Or rather, non-existent.)

I had no problem with the story for the most part. The Ridley fight with the PTSD wasn’t very well thought out, but outside of that, I thought it was a very well choreographed game. The story and cutscenes had that subtle element of horror to them, which I thought was fantastic and very “Metroid-esque”.

      • Ony

Let Nintendo make an Other M² with all the negative points removed

        for 3DS.

I want Retro to make the next (even only one) Metroid on Wii U :(

      • I still haven’t actually played Other M (for a few reasons) but the demo I played had nice controls and what I see shows a solid title (gameplay-wise). I want to see it handled by another Japanese studio too~.

I don’t care who does it ultimately, I just want them to not kill Samus’s personality (help restore her honor!) and not try to sexualize her.

        • Honestly, I thought the whole sexualization debate was rather exaggerated in the case of Other M. You know me… I’m not into games that tend to focus too much on sexualization in lieu of good gameplay/storytelling.

Other M honestly never felt like that to me. I will 100% agree that one specific scene (a cutscene before the boss fight against Ridley) felt incredibly out of place, but the rest of the game had her acting like a responsible adult.

I’ve seen people argue that Samus lets her former commanding officer order her around, and that they feel it makes no sense. Except… it does? They’re all on a hostile space research station in the middle of nowhere, and he’s trying to diffuse a situation. She isn’t stupid. Why would she be a rebel when the responsible thing to do would be to become part of his unit and work together?

          • idrawrobots

I wish I could “like” this 100 times.

          • From what I’ve seen, I actually agree it wasn’t as huge (but most of the people I know of talking about primarily had characterization issues). But, (bad) sexualization is a fear of mine when it comes to female characters because of how frequent it’s becoming. x’);

I’ve definitely seen cases for and against and while all sides have validity, my thing is I just don’t see Samus as needing to take orders anyway (because at that point, she’s had enough experience to get through things without needing someone to boss her around, regardless of who it is).

Maybe if it was earlier in the timeline, I could understand, but I feel like what I’ve seen of her character in Other M is a devolution more than anything. Well, as far as her competency.

But maybe I’ll feel differently once I’ve sat down and properly played through it~.

  • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

I wonder if we’ll see anything on Conception. Probably not, but it’d be funny if we did.

  • SirRichard

Come on, Nintendo. Impress us. Keep the 3DS train rolling, you built up some amazing momentum almost single-handedly! And something for my Wii U would be nice too, sure.

    • Death Saved

      Like X!

  • MasterScrub

    SMTxFE news pls

…I know there’s no chance of that happening, but I can dream right? :’D

    • Thatguy

      We all can dream.
      And that dream is wonderful.

  • Renaldi Saputra

    Re:Digitize Decode?
Ah man, I forgot Nintendo won’t handle Bandai’s exclusive games

    • British_Otaku

They handled (at least distributed) multiple One Piece games in Europe and that is both putting hands into Bandai’s basket and TOEI/Shonen Jump/Shueisha at once.

      • Renaldi Saputra

sorry I forgot to add “localization of Namdai’s exclusive games”

        • GH56734

          One Piece Gigant Adventure, Europe.
          Just saying.

          • Renaldi Saputra

was the localization of it handled by Nintendo?

          • British_Otaku

At least, sales, marketing and distribution, I came across a comment which implied they had it at events with episodes of the show…

I don’t see anything confirming they did any translations (rather that if they did, it would be fairly minimal, limited to the extra content), but giving over that much control to another company is still pretty huge.

          • British_Otaku

You made up that name bro. :P

One Piece Gigant Battle – A series of two DS sprite based brawlers in the spirit of Jump Superstars. Gigant Battle 1 was release in Europe with no direct involvement from Nintendo

The One Piece Unlimited series included Unlimited Adventure (not released in Europe), Unlimited Cruise in two episodes (not released in America) and Unlimited World RED (released in Japan just last month).

Nintendo helped out with Unlimited Cruise SP, at the least the first episode as it was cut in half and sold separately… >_> They only did the sales, marketing and distribution of the game, it seems and to be honest given that most of the content was translated in the two episodes they wouldn’t have much to do.

          • GH56734

My, I am sorry, I meant the one for the DS that came in 2011 and has a Japan-only sequel.
I knew one game had involvement from Nintendo of Europe but I confused both, that and Gigant Battle having a promotion campaign unusually big for a late-DS release (and certainly unlike anything by Namco).

    • InfectedAI

I wish. That game looks so fun and I’m not even a Digimon fan.

  • Grape Monet

Considering how the Wii U is doing right now, this could not come at a better time. Even if it isn’t much, It’s good to see that they’re not leaving us in the dark here. It doesn’t solve their real problem, the lack of advertising to anyone outside the core, but I’ll still watch it.

  • BlakShiranui

New character announcement for Smash Bros?
Oh and I’d like to see X too.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    3DS: Dragon Quest monsters/7 ,Re:Digitize Decode, Love plus*maybe?* I think I’m missing something…

wii-u: New IPs, Dragon Quest 10,Some news about X?, the 2nd Sega colab game *Maybe Phansty star spinoff* More Weegee games<3, Smash bros release date?

    • InfectedAI

If they announced a Re:Digitize Decode localization I would be so happy. Now I’m going to be so disappointed when they won’t. Might as well bring my hopes all the way up so they can come crashing down and hope for a Fantasy Life localization too.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

Fantasy Life! thats one I’m missing!. I really really hope they will

        • idrawrobots

          I still want Time Travelers.

          • British_Otaku

I forgot about that again, I want Level 5 to do a 180 and release that game. Before playing Inazuma Eleven’s Go Galaxy demo it was probably my most anticipated Level 5 game and it is definitely the freshest idea otherwise.

          • xzeldax3

Damn you for reminded me about that amazing looking game I’ll never get to play :(

    • Tylor Boreas Makimoto

      Yokai Watch?

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        That one too

      • InfectedAI

It looks cool and I want it, but if we’re talking Level-5 I want Fantasy Life more.

    • ronin4life

      It says for *Spring* 2014.

We shouldn’t expect anything new, save for suprise localization stuff or a non spring last second announcement.

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

How about we get some sequels to last gen ip’s first XD

  • HerosLight

Maybe a new Smash character and Mario Kart 8 release date reveal.

They’ve been keeping quiet of X for too long so I’m not expecting it anytime soon.

  • TheExile285

I hope to see Kirby Triple Deluxe gameplay

    • J_Joestar

maybe hint at a NA release date too?

      • GH56734

  • Akemi Nakajima

    1. I want more info about SMTIV in Europe.

    2. How about mentioning Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem huh?

  • Arcana Wiz

Well this is interesting, will be watching it tomorrow.

  • Jero

I hope for a Bravely Default demo so I can burn the time left.

  • JoJo_649

Does Yarn Yoshi still exist? anyways news on Mario Kart 8 and DK Tropical Freeze are appreciated, alongside a hopeful new smash character.

  • Michael Cortorreal

While some wants SMT IV..i want the news for a Bravely Default. US Demo…GIVE ME MY DEMO NINTENDO T-T

    • AzureRyuujin

February isn’t too far off now. We need to hang in there…

    • InfectedAI

I don’t think the demo will be released until a month before release.

  • Azure Flame

    Monster Hunter 4 announcement?

  • Heisst

I thought I could hold off for long but goddamn I really need my Monster Hunter fix.

  • konsama

Monster Hunter4, Redigitize Decode, Monster Hunter 4?

We getting MH4 before june…right, yeah right.

  • KingGunblader

So the NA one will talk Mario Kart 8, the 3DS Yoshi game(s), and uh… what else is on the horizon for 3DS and Wii U?

As usual, I will continue to hope for a DQVII announcement.

    • Krisi92

There’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, the new Smash Bros, Kirby Triple Deluxe, and DLC like the new Shantae games, Shovel Knight, A Hat in Time, etc.

  • Auvers

The Japanese and European times look so much more convenient…

  • Yay~! We’ll probable see a new Kirby trailer then? :’D
    Either way, I’m excited. ♥

  • I am ready. I think you all know what part of me is ready.

  • Kaetsu

    SMTxFE and X please :D

  • Tsurugi

Mario Strikers, Medabots Dual and Inazuma Eleven GO for 3DS to USA

    • Renaldi Saputra

for IE GO, hope was very very small

  • The_Superior_Spider-Mon

They will probably talk about the existing upcoming games on Kirby, Pokebank, a new Character for Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, DKCR: Tropical Freeze.
I’m hoping for a surprise announcement

  • yomachaser

Plz announce One Piece for US release!

    • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

      The already did

      • idrawrobots

Not the new one, but yeah the US is getting one.

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

The non 3D co-op game shall wait

    • British_Otaku

More like for Europe… Romance Dawn isn’t going to release in NA for a few months, perhaps they will say it is coming to both and even at the same time but they want to focus on promoting one game based on one license on one system at a time.

  • Chaos_Knight

I hope Monolith Soft’s X is shown. It’s probably the only Wii U game I really want aside from Smash Bros. (Also hope for new character reveal.)

  • SMT

Yay, a Nintendo Direct during my birthday!
Now if only they announce a release date for SMTIV in Europe, or something good for the 3DS (like DQVII), that’s be an awesome birthday present from Nintendo!

  • LDM

I wonder if they will release new information on that “X” game for the Wii U. I haven’t heard anything new about it since E3.

  • TalesOfBS

    Time for more frustration.

Don’t get me wrong but i bet the Wii U part is only about DKC Tropical Freeze, maybe sneak peek at Mario Kart or SB and that is it.
Hey, its Nintendo. Do you guys seriously think they are going to advertise games that need it, like X, Bayonetta2, SMTxFE?

    • Suicunesol

They’ll talk about those games more when they’re ready to be shown. No need to be so cynical.

  • I’m hoping for some Japanese localizations like Yugioh Zexal Clash Duel Carnival, Attack on titan (not likely), Gaist crusher … anything other than that and it will be a pleasant surprise for me

  • keithmaxx

    Just a few hours away.
