Toukiden Fires Up Its Ambition With Some Samurai Warrior Spirits

By Eugene . December 17, 2013 . 4:30pm

Toukiden’s unique feature is found in its legendary hero spirits that will come to the aid of players as they purify the land of evil. And as part of Jump Fest 2014, the Vita/PSP action game is hooking up with Tecmo Koei’s other series, Samurai Warriors, to provide two new spirits for players to grab.

Well, that is, if you can somehow get the code that will be distributed at Makuhari Messe during the two-day event from the 21st to 22nd of December. If not, no worries—players can wait until January, when the spirits are released to the wider public for free on the PlayStation Store.

The two new spirits are Aya Gozen (above) and Ginchiyo Tachibana, from the Samurai Warriors and Nobunaga’s Ambition series. They’ll each grant new Mitama powers to your player. These Mitama’s give you bonuses to attributes such as power and healing, while also providing a set of special attacks. Aya, for instance, seems to be doing a powerful lightning attack while Tachibana has a repelling shield that fends off a giant Onmoraki beastie.

Toukiden is out now on PlayStation Vita and PSP in Japan. The game will be available in 2014 in North America and Europe for Vita.

My heart warmed up when I saw Aya in the thumbnail ^_^

    • raymk

I wish she were playable :(

    • fairysun

But you don’t want to make her angry.
In Samurai Warriors, compared to Kenshin, she is 100* scarier to me.

      • Altin

So true. I would never do that! :D

  • Dexward

Wait. Isn’t Ginchiyo the one who uses lightning-based attacks?

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

      different Ginchiyo

      • Alexander Marquis Starkey

It’s definitely the same Aya though.

    • ronin4life

      Same historical figure, different characterization.
This one is more realistic due to being in Nobunaga’s ambition, Koei’s flagship historical simulation series.

This game isn’t coming fast enough, I bought a vita for black friday, uncharted is starting to bore me. Can’t wait til February.

  • TheExile285

Clicked thinking this was news for the US release. Cool that they are still supporting the game.

    • ekibyougami

      Yes. Yes it does <3

Can't wait to buy the game… again (in english)!

      • tonyp1987

Wow it looks better than the mh4 on 3ds how was the gameplay and framerate

        • ekibyougami

There are rare framerate drops on my part (most especially during heated battles wherein you and your party unleash various skills and buffs), but that’s forgivable and doesn’t really bother me too much since the visuals are just too amazing (the screenshot kinda degrades the quality — so the actual gfx you see on the screenshot I posted looks far better than that).
Online multiplayer feels smooth as well. There are also guild hall (online/adhoc/single player) quests like MH where it offers a separate list of missions (with harder difficulty) than the story quest missions and you WILL be required to take them since you’ll need the quests to finish sub-quests (like increasing your max storage space)

          • tonyp1987

Ok is the single player story long or short like killzone mercenary.

          • ekibyougami

lol. It’s like MH. You can’t compare an FPS’s story content with a hunting genre’s story content :))

Anyways, yeah it’s long. There are also post-story missions for single player. But there are more “Guild Hall” quests than single player missions.

          • tonyp1987

So if I just want it for sp how many missions/sidequest can I look foward to so I can if its worth my moneys worth

          • ekibyougami

Single player = up to Chapter 7
Multiplayer = up to Chapter 10

            And Plenty of sidequests

          • tonyp1987

Oh ok kinda like ragnarock for vita

          • tonyp1987

Do you wanna add me on psn?

          • ekibyougami

            sure. if ya want ;)

            my current PSN is “hyuugamoe”
Just gimme a request if you like.

      • Frederick Anchores Panahon

Hi, can I ask something? I’ve been wondering, what does this play more like, Monster Hunter series, or Soul Sacrifice?

        • ekibyougami

It’s more like Monster Hunter on the grinding side, gameplay, difficulty and average time to complete quests. But you can choose to have 3 NPC companions with you during most quests or use friend’s character’s ghost data (like in God Eater 1 and 2).
The pace is even more faster than MH imho, and the ability to use specials and create Builds (since there are several types of Mitama and their skills to mix with) makes it even more complex. Not to mention you also have to COLLECT over 200 Mitamas and craft Legendary and Signature weapons (the ones the AI NPC uses)

          • Frederick Anchores Panahon

Oh okay, looks like I’m getting this then hahaha. Thanks!

  • Gojira Twit

Damn it I was interested until I saw the picture. That’s not SW Ginchiyo :(

  • S- Class Wizard KaRamo

so it won’t be coming to psp in the west just for the vita

  • Cyril Murasakitsuyukusa

This game looks really good. My Vita is ready! ^_^

  • artemisthemp

I hope this Legendary spirit will be available in the Western version.
