  • Despite with, I believe is a lighter mood, comical SD-depiction of the SEES and Investigation Team, this game I think has a serious underlying theme.

That lone spider at the start of the trailer seems also to be either a hint or foreshadowing of what’s big and behind the story of this game.

  • Lolzandstuff

Chibi or not, light mood or not… When you put Minato and Yu in the same game it can only be awsome! Zomg! I can’t wait for this! I feel much much better now that 3ds will get some new food! Omnomnom

    • Ric Vazquez

      LOL, agreed.

    • Hashim Kutbi

Can’t wait to fight the final boss…. There will be blood…

  • new_tradition

I’m already interested in what I see. For starters, why were most of the P3 cast in the Velvet Room Elevator? O_O

I guess I missed it the first time, but this game does appear to be in a 1st person perspective in terms of traveling in the dungeons at the very least. I admit I prefer looking at a character sprite, but I might put that bias aside for this game :3

  • Go2hell66

getting an etrian oddysey vibe from this.

    • Hound

Same engine as Etrian Odyssey IV. Much of the same heads of the team that brought us Etrian Odyssey as well.

      • Go2hell66

yea sounds right. couldnt help but notice the 5 person party in the battle screen and the 1st person dungeon crawling in the trailer

        • Hound

For kicks and giggles: Etrian Odyssey is “Yggdrasil Labyrinth” in Japan.
This is “Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth.”

    • Reiswindy

That Q in the title references Sekaijuu no Mei’Q’ (Etrian Odyssey)

  • Chris Yuen

Anyone spotted that Catherine easter egg in the trailer? (1:39 mark)

    • zuuum

      Right away!xD
and seeing Aigis blowing up Vincent’s head makes me think she got the neutral ending…

    • Kaetsu

I was just about to comment about that. I love Atlus.

    • Learii

uh… not me what you talking about?

      • kmantle

Actually, it’s on the 1:39 mark. The sheep and the Vincent doll

        • Learii

          lol ok got it

    • transferstudentx

hype hype persona games hype cant handle it cant live without it XD

  • Saphiren

    I´m in love with this!

    • SnackEater

I can’t stop laughing and he’s even making that face!

  • Anon-non

Holy crap I saw Vincent from Catherine. I hope it’s more than a cameo..

  • Pdugna

    Aigis sure don’t like sheep

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    Dat Catherine Easter egg

  • SetzerGabbiani

All they need to do is announce the release date in the US and it will be pre-ordered in full, much like Bravely Default. Chibi-styled characters and first-person views do not take anything away from this game in my eyes.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      Its going to happen

    • karldeck

      I’m ready to buy a american 3ds.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Every trailer I keep hoping they’ll show what dungeon exploration looks like, but they never show it! Still super excited for this game.

  • Warren

I don’t care what the naysayers say, i’m getting this game and will enjoy it! Cause this may be a once in a life time opportunity for a big P3/P4 crossover that includes everyone…until Persona 5 comes out.

Also with Mitsuru scared you know bad s*** going down.

    • megaten666

      Are there naysayers?
As far as I’m concerned, this game is going to be one hell of an epic ride :D

      • Warren

Just the haters that say they don’t like the chibi art because its too cute, or the scorned P1/P2 fanboys that are mad that their favorites aren’t in the game even though they’re “way too edgey” for the P3/P4 cast.

        • Herok♞

I will say I vastly prefer the P1/P2 cast to the P3/P4 but doesn’t make me a scored fanboy who will get made because of a crossover, I am even looking forward to the game, so your assumptions aren’t appreciated.

          • Pnklmaonade

There are naysayers, and they are the people that he outlined in his post. People who are pissy that there is no P1/P2 representation, people who hate the chibi style, people who hate that it’s more P3/P4 spamming. I saw the comments when the game was first announced last month. If you’re not one of the people who are mad, then his statement doesn’t apply to you, now does it?

        • Lalum

Edgy isn’t really the word I would use for them.

          • Warren

            what word might you use?

          • Lalum

They have the same potential for lighthearted sequences. Heck there are quite a few of them in P1+P2. Not as many as P3+P4, but hey.

        • Arizato

I’m not that interested because it’s not canon. I prefer to stay away from games that aren’t canon in a series I love. Waste of time for me personally as it doesn’t move the story forward and by the end everything you did in the game made no difference whatsoever since it’s not even going to be mentioned again. Alternate timelines are interesting to me though, as they can be considered canon depending on how you see it.

I am however interested in this game’s soundtrack. Awesome Meguro as always.

          • Steven Higgins

They said P4U wasn’t cannon when it was first announced too, but they were wrong.

          • Arizato

Source on that, please? I was all over P4U when it was announced back in August of 2011 and I never ever read about them stating that. Hell, I watch like a hawk over the internet almost everyday for Persona news and I’ve never came over anything like that.

            ———— PERSONA 3 AND 4 SPOILERS BELOW————-

I don’t see the chance of this being canon since the timeline doesn’t really add up. If the full Persona 3 cast is present then the members of the Investigation Team shouldn’t even have met yet. Some could argue that this game might have something to do with the Abyss of Time. But Shinjiro was never seen there, since he is dead. While Minato/Makoto really isn’t dead, but trapped in the seal. Also all characters are the same age as they are in their original games. Which makes for countless inconsistencies.

            —————-END OF SPOILERS———————

This game will probably continue to be non-canon and a “fun” crossover for fans and I hope that the ones looking forward to this will have a great time. I will pick this game up down the line for my Megami Tensei collection. But I am more interested in getting Shin Megami Tensei IV, Persona 5 and Persona 4 Dancing All Night in Europe at the moment.

          • Aaron Alcindor

This game is canon in the persona 3 universe, the trailer states the p3 cast got transported on the 20th of september (this was during that big storm in p3 and didn’t see what actually happened , also shinjiro was still alive since he died in October) to the p4 timeline on october the 30th in alternate yasogami high.

          • Arizato

Persona 3 and 4 share the same universe, so just saying that this applies to the Persona 3 world doesn’t make sense. Minato/Makoto also was in the Velvet Room while the typhoon/storm raged outside and we know how fast time passes by sometimes when you are there. No one ever mentioned anything really interesting that happened during the storm and unless they did some serious retconning I still think this is a non-canon what if scenario. Especially since you’d have to retcon the Arena games as well when the characters aren’t reacting to seeing the same characters they saw two years ago in P4A and P4A2.

          • Steven Higgins

It was like, the very first time people started talking about it. To be clear, it was the sites reporting it, not Atlus themselves that called it non-canon and the misunderstanding was soon cleared up. The same thing could have happened here. And we already have one character with amnesia, so time travel and memory-wiping could make this canon.

    • Ramón Navas

Maybe SEES are going to face their Shadows?

    • Haganeren

Oh you know, i think near all haters about this games vanished when the timer 5.555 appeared during the Atlus conference…

      • Warren

nah they still hangout around the discussion boards whenever something dealing with Persona comes up, or they are trolls looking for acknowledgement.

        • Blerg

Do you go around looking for them or something, there are haters of things everywhere
If all you do complain about the complainers, then you aren’t any better

          • Warren

            Speak of the devil everyone!

          • Blerg

Don’t mistake this me attacking you, I’m stating this generally, in your earlier post the first thing you mentioned was the haters, while this isn’t a problem in and of itself, in continuing posts you kept going on about it, what I should say is, you can’t really tell them to “Get over it” and you not do so

  • Nanaki

Junpei has eyes like a Magikarp.

  • Hell yeah! Yukiko doing Josuke’s pose of awesome!

Edit: P4MC doing Jonathan’s pose, Chie was doing Jotaro’s point. I couldn’t spot the others.

Good little shout-out to the whole personas=stands thing. This makes me want this game even more.

    • Hashim Kutbi

      From Jojo’s bizarre adventure??

      • Yep yep, exactly that.

        • Hashim Kutbi

And I thought they were doing a music band or something :p

    • Engi3Piece

      hope this helps!

  • Eder García

hope this game comes to the us

    • 하세요

I believe overall P3 and P3 did well over here. I’d be rather surprised if we didn’t.

      • Kamakuma

Persona 3 and Persona 3 portable? X’3 Or just a small typo? :’3

  • I believe this will indeed sell like hotcakes in Japan and US and hopefully our EU friends as well. I’m hoping for a killer CE when it gets announced to US release.

  • Hound

    I’m loving the background music.

  • Aemette

Not to take away from this trailer but… I can imagine this like a little test run to see how people take seeing their characters appear before them in an Etrian Odyssey-like game. I mean sure Persona’s characters are more well known and actually talk and what not but wouldn’t it be something to see the characters of EO move and act the way these guys do in this game?

Yeah that would take away from the entire point of EO BUT it would still be pretty cool.

Twas a really good trailer though~

    • SetzerGabbiani

That’s actually a really good point, and perhaps they are testing the waters for future EO iterations. The only thing about EO is how many character models they would have to use since there are 4 options per class, but other than that, everything is pretty much a palette swap. The production value for the EO brand isn’t as high as it is for Persona, so I don’t think it would be as polished either. However, now that they have this superior engine…I can’t see how it wouldn’t be used in the next EO.

      • Aemette

Right!? This game just creates a window to a whole new EO game. EO 2 broadened our horizons, EO 3 took everything we knew and upgraded it, EO 4 just made things even more smooth and understandable, and EO U added voices and personalities to the NPCs and story characters. I don’t see why the next EO game shouldn’t do something crazier than that.

It could be that EO 5 might be the LAST game in the series, given that in EO 1 they hinted at “five islands” thus five games, but it could go anywhere at this point and if they go down the same route as Persona Q then what a way to go out with a bang. Either way this conversation has me already imagining all these endless possibilities~

  • RichyGaming

    Mitsuru: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Hashim Kutbi

I kept asking myself why she’s screaming.

    • Karin Shita

      I think she said “Get away!” But I wonder why she shrieked. They don’t look much different from the Shadows she’s been fighting. o___o;

      • karldeck

Maybe she has a fear for nurses? But I don’t know.

  • Charles Parker

I wonder how much a the number 9 will come up in this game.

    • miju

      zero escape x persona confirmed

  • Hashim Kutbi

Someone needs saving…… Bring it on baby.

  • Jero

Looks good. I wonder what features of the persona series will this game have, besides obviously the characters and story. But gameplay related, social links? persona fusion?

  • mojack411

I have to say when the game was first announced I was pleased but not all that excited. Afterall, crossover games tend to be a little… light in the story department. After watching the recent trailer, though, my opinion is starting to change. It looks like legitimate effort is going into making the story for this game and now I’m super excited to play it… Even if I haven’t beaten P3 or even touched P4 yet…

  • Learii

nice music at the beginning of the trailer
    is Q stand for Question?

    • Warren

No i think someone told me it meant labyrinth in some mythology.

      • Learii

hmm I have no idea then

      • neocatzon

Ah, it’s not some myth. Meikyuu (MeiQ in this case) or 迷宮 simply stands for labyrinth in Japanese.

    • kandori

The Q comes from “MeiQ,” which is part of the Japanese nickname for Etrian Odyssey.

      • Learii

        oh really?

      • Steven Higgins

So the English would be “Persona Odyssey”?

        • kandori

Not exactly. Meikyu, or MeiQ as it’s commonly referred to, means labyrinth. So if anything the title is Persona Labyrinth.

          • Steven Higgins

But labyrinth is already in the sub title. “Persona Labyrinth, Shadow of the Labyrinth”? Kind of redundant.

          • kandori

Well it’s obviously not the whole word. I said “if anything.” The point is that it’s a reference to EO.

  • vileBrenman

    *Mitsuru scream
I can not wait for this. There was a Catherine cameo and actually terrifying looking shadow? Monsters? Doctor things. This looks very promising

  • Guest

hype hype persona games hype cant handle it cant live without it XD

  • transferstudentx

atlus i dare you release this first in europe

  • 07thCrow

lol I guess Aigis wasn’t a fan or Catherine? 2014 is going to have some seriously awesome games! Cannot wait for this and P5!

  • TheExile285

So dungeon exploration is in first person? Was hoping 3rd person like SMTIV. Oh well, still excited.

  • Alexander Aubert

  • serpentear

Soo there’s Catherine cameo but no hamuko.. .TT_TT still I might get this tho *shameful sobbing*

  • Guest

I have 3DSLL too, but isn’t this game more suited to be on vita? with non-chibi + better graphics and all?

    just curious why…… T_T

    • Anewme…Again

They decided to do it this way, the 3DS can handle much better graphics then that, but Atlus decided to go with that kind of graphic and chibi characters, so even if they would have made that game on the Vita it most likely would have been the same.

    • celery

They didn’t show the bottom screen in this trailer. If there’s a dungeon map, or even making your own map like in the EO series then the second screen is a necessity. It’s much more intuitive and convenient to have 2 screens.

  • GOLD

  • SmokeScreen

I wonder if they saw Junpei’s face when they thought “WOW! This would make a GREAT THUMBNAIL!”
