In addition to working on the upcoming SoniPro idol game and Toshin Toshi for Nintendo 3DS, Luminous Arc developers Imageepoch recently revealed that they’re working on a brand new SRPG title that they’ll be revealing next year. President Ryohei Mikage shares more during an end-of-year talk with 4Gamer.

“On January 30, 2014, we’ll be releasing Toshin Toshi for Nintendo 3DS,” says Mikage. “After that, we’ll continue by releasing SoniPro for 3DS, and we also expect to reveal a brand new ‘original SRPG’ as part of Imageepoch’s 10 year anniversary.”

“The original RPG, Luminous Arc, was Imageepoch’s development debut title,” he continues. “We’re just about to hit the turning point of the company’s 10-year anniversary, so we’d like to look back to our roots, and we’re in the middle of zealously developing a high quality SRPG title to offer you guys. Please look forward to Toshin Toshi, SoniPro, and the new original SRPG!”

Toshin Toshi will be coming out on January 30, 2014, and SoniPro for 3DS will follow shortly after, sometime in winter 2014, for Nintendo 3DS.

    Original? So no LA4. Sad.

    More details when?

    • Ethan_Twain

Well if I remember right, LA 3 wasn’t localized, right? So maybe that’s for the best. I think localization is more likely for a new game than for a Luminous Arc sequel.

      • MrTyrant

If the new game is an spiritual succesor then yeah it could be cool. If I remember well LA 3 didn’t even take place in the same world I believe.

        • miju

Only if they get Shibano Kaito to do the character art again. It wouldn’t be a true spiritual successor without it.

          • MrTyrant

I agree. Keeping the mechanic or story is one thing but it’s really important to keep the design too.

        • Zoozbuh

I like the idea of a LA spiritual successor with a similar universe, art style, characters, etc. In fact since we missed out on LA3 it might be the best option! God I hope it happens now

(inb4 the game ends up being completely unrelated in every way.)

  • http://mmv-wii.proboards.com/index.cgi Hero of Legend

Surely this is for 3DS, not only because he mentions the other two games for 3DS specifically in the same sentences, BUT Imageepoch also promised a SRPG for the 3DS to have come out in 2012, which never happened.

    Fingers crossed!

  • XypherCode

I think it’s too late to say that they should localize Luminous Arc 3. But yeah I really want a new Luminous Arc game. :)
    Btw Happy New Year! XD

  • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

Awesome! Arc Rise Fantasia is one of my favorite JRPG in 7th gen despite the horrible voice acting the game is great.

    • AkiraScare

i think it was one of the first games that made me realized i was in JRPGs (^_^)

    • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

      Totally agree =)

    • http://takopako.tumblr.com takopako

agreed. the gameplay was 100% on point!

    • mojack411

The voice acting actually grew on me after a long while lol. It took almost the entire game, but by the end I really couldn’t imagine Ryfia’s voice as anything else. Totally agree with you, though. The gameplay was challenging and punishing, but not to the point of brutality and unfairness. It was spot on and the story was also fantastic. It’s a damn shame it didn’t get more attention. If Imageepoch made a similar game with improvements for the WiiU… wait a minute. Could this perhaps be the upcoming announcement?!

      • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

I hope lol I would love another JRPG on Wii U

      • Linhua

        … this. All of this.

… it was as if some of the VAs actually began to grow comfortable with their character roles as the story progressed.

… from the very beginning of some of these character’s debut, though… like Leslie and Cecille. Right out the door, their acting was good.

… but yes, as you say… Ryfia couldn’t have been voiced any other way… she wasn’t really human after all. She was a Diva… whatever that symbolized in this game… so she SHOULDN’T sound like a normal human.

        • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

yes I had no problem with those two voice acting but Ryfia voice was annoying til the point where she stop asking so much questions about her or anything.

    • Lalum

One of the few games I actually bothered to undub.

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

    Super amped for this one

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

    Hell yeah, Imageepoch

  • http://kuroneko772.blog.jeuxvideo.com/ KuroNeko77

I really enjoyed Luminous Arc 3, so I can’t wait to see how this brand new SRPG will turn out.

  • Kaetsu

More SRPGs/TRPGs is never a bad thing :D

    • Just Tim

…so much to the point I spent almost $30 for my Android!

  • biskmater

I just remembered LA 3 never got localized… Why must you make me suffer!? Oh well. I shall comfort myself with Bravely Default demo that comes tomorrow.

    • Kaetsu

I completely forgot about that demo. Thanks for the heads-up!

    • Hours

I was just thinking about this. I still can’t believe we never got the final game in the trilogy. :(

  • AkiraScare

Touchy Touchy is wat i had read (TT_TT)

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

More RPGs/SRPG’s are always a good thing ^_^

  • $51888021

Bout time, darn it! I’m one of those few lonely western souls who really liked the Luminous Arc games! Sadly they never really managed to transcend “unprofitable niche” status, so let’s hope the recent trend of extremely unlikely localizations sticks around until this game comes out~!

    • Zoozbuh

You’re not the only one- I freakin loved the Luminous Arc games too, so annoyed the third one never got localised. I just loved the light-hearted characters, the witch/magic theme and the plot which didn’t take itself too seriously.
It just felt like I was playing through a funny anime and I don’t think
any other SRPG has had quite the same feel (apart from maybe Disgaea).

  • MrRobbyM

What ever system it’s on, I will buy it.

  • rpgmaniac

I love SRPs but I hate first person view on RPGs so don’t just do it that way & I’ll keep an eye on it, my benchmark when we r talking for SRPGs is the Fire Emblem series that’s how I want a SRPG to be I love those games! <3 ^__^

  • sakusakusakura_nyo

The Luminous Arc games were cool! I’d love to play a strategy game like them on 3DS!

    • Arcana Wiz

yes, i liked them, they werent ambitious, but they were solids at the bases of a SRPG and i loved the characters and and the comcept of witches.

  • Unretributed

Aren’t these the same people who created Time and Eternity? Sorry, I wouldn’t trust anything from these guys after that disaster.

    • Romored

They’re very hit-or-miss, but they often make fairly good games. T&E was just too ambitious for them.

    • Arcana Wiz

yes, cause one bad game annuls ALL the good games others that they made.. okay, your loss.

      • Unretributed

What a studio used to make in the past has no meaning if their most recent work was bad. People around here bash Square Enix based on that very same principle and are right to do so.

I could also say the same about a lot of other studios who “USED TO” make quality games. If their recent work is bad than it doesn’t matter how good they used to be.

        • 永次

“Past” = one year ago, great guy ;)
7th Dragon 2020 and 2020-II are great games, FATE/Extra and Sol Trigger are really good games. Talk with knowledge.

        • Arcana Wiz

          Time and eternity – 2012
          Fate/Extra CCC – 2013
          7th Dragon 2020-II – 2013
Sol trigger – released a week before time and eternity.

The last three are great games. so how a game that was released before two of those and almost simultaneous with one is the “present”?

        • J_Joestar

A lot of the issues with SE is more towards particular franchises and business decisions.
A string of what many consider mediocre to bland FF games, frequent pushing of their franchises to social/phone platforms, and lack of willingness to localize certain games (DQ) garner a lot of bashing.

On the other hand there are things like Bravely Default that get fairly positive praise (asides from microtransaction fearmongers) and high hopes on others brands like DQ or TWEWY.

    • Lynx

      What was overhype?

It was the first of its kind so of course, its going to be bad. The fact that people bash them for one bad game which was a sound idea, thus preventing a sequel from improving…..

    • DyLaN

      If only Sol Trigger and 7D2020 came out of Japan ;A;

And quite frankly, gameplay/maybe the animation is the only part where T&E is not good IMHO.

    • fayt255

Time and Eternity was a new idea and something the company did very different from all the other games they have made. Even so not every game some one makes is going to be great.

  • Raltrios

Luminous Arc 1 and 2 were the first things I ever bought on eBay (after the first Golden Sun…). I dearly love those games, so it does my heart good to hear this.

    But I want Luminous Arc 3 too, dammit! ;__;

    • Zoozbuh

My dream: Luminous Arc 3 gets a full English digital release on the eShop in Western regions as one of the first “DS Imports” titles.
Yeah, I know it will never happen lol.

      • Raltrios

        TAT

  • pekikuubik

But can it save the JRPG?

  • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

They were the ones in charge of Arc Rise Fantasia, right? Then color me interested. This game, in my opinion, was one of the best JRPGs from the PS3/360/Wii combined. Can’t wait to know what it is.

  • Arcana Wiz

I liked the Luminous arc series, so i’m very interested in this new title, luckily it will have more success than Luminous Arc now that imageepoch is more well know and it will become a series.

  • EinMugenTenshin

    Love the picture

  • HerosLight

I played all 3 Luminous Arc games years ago, LA2 ended up my favorite. The Openings for the 3 games were memorable and great. LA3 OP was best.

I do wish LA3 was localized but that is too late.

I hope their new SRPG will be as good as LA…and localized.

    • Detrimont

i agree, 2 was my favourite as well, but that’s mostly because i couldn’t understand most of what was happening in 3(didn’t stop me from finishing it though), i must say though, that those transformation parts of 3 were GREAT, and i’m sad it didn’t get localized(i’m also sad the rabbit doesn’t join the party like the previous talking animals in the series)

    • Just Tim

If we’d like, we can ask Marvelous AQL to do Android/iOS/Steam ports. I still remember a lot of their games, being butchered back in the DS/Wii heyday.

  • 永次

    New simulation RPG? Great :P

  • MonoChrome

I wish they’d make another BRS game D:

  • deathman00789

    Hope it has Kopins~

  • Aristides

    Luminous Ark 4TW!!!! I wish I got to play LA3 though ;_;
