Yoshi’s New Island Hops To Europe In March

By Ishaan . January 23, 2014 . 4:22am

Nintendo have announced a release date for Yoshi’s New Island in European territories. The game will be available on March 14th—the same day as North America. Here’s the game’s box art:

Yoshi’s New Island is being developed by Arzest, which is a company started up by former employees of Artoon. You may recall that Artoon—along with Cavia and Feelplus—were absorbed into Marvelous AQL after Marvelous and AQ Interactive merged.

Meanwhile, the game’s producer is Takashi Tezuka, the creative director of the original Yoshi’s Island for Super NES.

I hope that “Also compatible with Nintendo 2DS” sticker…

    A) Is a sticker and not actually printed on the cover.
    B) Is not on the American box.
    C) Does not become the norm for future 3DS releases.

I haven’t seen it on any other European boxart before this so maybe it will be the normal from now on. It makes sense considering very few people check the back of the box for the little tick next to the compatible systems. That and given the name of the 2DS maybe they just want to further tell people that the device does play 3DS games.

I do admit it does look a little off just slapped there but I understand why it is there. At least the European boxes don’t have the, “Playable in 2D and 3D. 3D for ages 7+. See back.” on the front of the box, personally I think that is the worst thing about the American boxarts.

    New SMB: Mega Mario
Yoshi’s New Island: Yoshi with giant egg

    Am I seeing a trend?

Kirby 3DS: Kirby with giant appetite

      You may be onto something.

    March, awesome
This will make a great Birthday gift for my mother who loves Yoshi games.

  • Yoshi just gave birth to a 400-pound baby; glad to see he’s handling it so well.

Copies of this game will sell 100 times more if there’s a Turn Baby Mario WHAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! Off function, BTW.

  • I may enjoy this more than Yoshi Island DS. Due to less baby switching and no blind spots.

  • Armane

Give us a date for Kirby! No one cares about Artoon’s Yoshi’s Island and there’s little chance this one will be any better.

  • Shadowman

Popping that egg out was probably painful for Yoshi.

  • Göran Isacson

As someone who recently beat the Ambassador Yoshis Island game, I am hyped as hell for this: more brilliant Yoshi platforming with sweet level design is always a welcome sight. That is, provided my wallet will survive February…

The “NEW” in the title really bothers me

    • Cyrus

I wish Nintendo would stop putting “New” in their game titles. It would confuse the hell outta people in the future. @[email protected]

I agree. They should go with number. Yoshi Island 11 for example. Though they probably going to use “Yoshi’s newer island” for the next gen Nintendo console.

They get over accused of Copy-Pasting WITHOUT Numbering their titles.
And that is just it: Put a number on your title and people either think “I need 1-** First..” or “Number **? Really? you would think ** was enough already-PASS.”
Numbers start to hurt after awhile, as they don’t carry any extra context. I mean, Paper Mario 5 looks kind of weird when you realize only 2 of the previous 4 were anything alike.

          • kthanxyousuck

They don’t have to use numbers but they could at least give it a subtitle like Yoshi’s Island – *insert here* They really do overuse new a bit too much

            New Super Mario Bros
            New Super Mario Bros 2
            New Super Luigi U

I think in Japan the 3DS mario & luigi RPG’s are numbered but they also have a subtitle. Dream Team was called Mario & Luigi RPG 4 – Dream Adventure

I’m okay with it for this game as it is a total overhaul in art style.

For a game coming out in two months, you’d think there’d be a lot more info and coverage about it. We went month hearing nothing about it and out of nowhere, a release date lol.
