Well, At Least Konami Is Doing Something With Hudson’s Library

By Spencer . January 25, 2014 . 9:30am

imageEver since Konami took over all of Hudson’s assets, all of their franchises have gone dormant. Bonk: Brink of Extinction was finished, but shelved. Momotaro Densetsu, a yearly series in Japan, was put on ice and we haven’t seen a new Bomberman game in years.

Konami is now starting to utilize Hudson’s back catalog in Japan by re-releasing TurboGrafx-16 games for Wii U Virtual Console like New Adventure Island, which comes out on January 29.

The MSX version of Antarctic Adventure is scheduled to come out then too along with Wario’s Woods and Bubble Bobble care of Square Enix since they acquired Taito.

They licensed Tengai Makyou to… a smartphone company to release a card-based free-to-play iOS “game”. Of course.
What a better way to exploit an RPG franchise that’s in the top ten Japanese all-time classics?
That Bomberman iOS game doesn’t count, they just released it because it was already done… in Japan only of course.

    • brostar

Aw that’s a shame. Tengai Makyou is one of those series I’m learning Japanese for. Dat Kabuki.

      • landlock

They even announced the Xbox one for a US release if I remember correctly, only to cancel it. :(

Looking at what clown-Konami has done to their own franchises like Castlevania and Silent Hill in the last half a decade it is safe to say that there certainly is fate far worse than death. Hundson properties should count their blessing if they are left to rest in peace.

    • landlock

Hudson already messed up there own series with Bomberman Act Zero.

  • Epic Markell Joshua

    Bomberman n64 vc please.

  • Леонид Родин

Give me Dawn of Ys dammit!!!

    • brostar

Dawn of Ys is already on the Japanese PSN. You’re not going to get an English release of it. Celceta already exists.

      • landlock

There’s been a english version for years if your in the know. :)

  • Kaetsu

I got really excited until I realized this was for Japan. Their Wii U VC is looking pretty impressive.

  • Space_Ghost

I wonder if Nintendo bid on these assets? I’m too lazy to look it up plus I’m at work, but if they didn’t they missed the boat on that one. I’m not saying these assets would be a cash cow, but they sure wouldn’t hurt.

    I miss Bomberman soo much…

  • GameTaco

Allow me to be the first today to hope someone at Konami digs up Bloody Roar and thinks of something to do with it.

Even if it’s just bringing Primal Fury to GameCube Virtual Console sometime in the next… Ten years…

  • Spirit Macardi

About friggin’ time, Konami! You haven’t done anything with those properties since you got them.

Actually, you haven’t done anything with any of your own properties that Kojima hasn’t butted into either.

  • mockturtle

I forgot about Bonk’s game. Now the wounds are reopened. :(

If it’s done, someone should leak it online, goddammit.

  • anthony apduhan
