Dragon Quest Games Drawing Near? Luminaries Of The Legendary Line Registered In The USA

By Spencer . February 10, 2014 . 12:43am

image Square Enix still hasn’t said anything about releasing more Dragon Quest games, but something is cooking. Siliconera found a trademark for Luminaries of the Legendary Line registered by Square Enix in the USA. Last year, Siliconera found that same potential Dragon Quest subtitle registered along with The Seeds of Salvation in Japan. Both trademarks follow the same alliteration Square Enix has used for Dragon Quest games in the past.

The question is which Dragon Quest game will this be for? It could be the Dragon Quest Monsters remakes for 3DS or perhaps the Nintendo 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII. The more I think about it Luminaries of the Legendary Line seems to fit Dragon Quest III’s story, which would might mean this is for the suite of smartphone remakes.

Great…mobile games from SE. At least that’s a switch.

Well, at least they’re likely to be DQ games.

  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

    Garmes?

  • urbanscholar

From a business stand point I think DQ7 3DS remake got snubbed for Bravely Default. One had to be chosen given $$$. If we get DQ7 remake cool just my two cents

    • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

We probably will get it, since they’ve trademarked ‘Seeds of Salvation’.

  • XyzzySqrl

Legendary Line? Oh god it’s a DOTA clone. Maybe Tower Defense.

  • Ouch My Head Said Dionysus

    DQ X?

  • Logan Moll

I really, REALLY want the VII remake, so I’m hoping for that. I am still really bummed that that title has just sat dead in the water–as far as localization.

  • Liamv2

Dragon quest 11 for the PS3 please. Yeah I know that’s not gonna happen but a guy can dream.

    • KiTA

      Nope. 3DS.

Dragon Quest 7 have the highest sales in japan. SqueEnix would be fool not to localize this game.

    • Ace Trainer Chris

Considering SE hasn’t published a single localized DQ game since the DS remake of V, I’d say they’re already pretty foolish.

    • Grape Monet

That chart’s missing IX and X, and IX sold more than all of those, if you’re not counting remakes and re-releases.

    • Shippoyasha

That is the thing I suppose. What’s smart in Japan may not be apply to overseas according to Square. Which is frustrating when the company seemed ready to blow the doors open towards globalization in early 2000s then during late 2000s, it became obvious they were focusing more on Japanese releases above western releases.

    • http://playstationallstars.wikia.com/wiki/PlayStation_All-Stars_Wiki Sackchief

They’re idiots. Yeah, there’s a chance it might crash in the States, but its worth the risk if it sold over 3 million in Japan. Meanwhile all these other companies like Idea Factory and NIS are localizing things that are barely successful in their home country.

      • Pyrotek85

Yeah it’s not as big as FF is here in the US, but I can’t imagine it doing worse than the niche titles we’ve been seeing. I think DQVII is inevitable at least. DQX maybe not since it would require server support, and as an MMO the competition is more fierce since it’s hard to play more than one. No idea how well the spin off titles did.

  • BillyMK

Luminaries of the Legendary Line has everything to do with de Deja tribe from Dragon Quest VII, and they kinda play an important role in the story.

  • awat

what about DQVII F**ing hell T~T

  • SprintsMcGee

I’m still bummed out that we never got the Wii remakes of Dragon Quest I-III. Please SE, don’t let this series die in the US!

    • Mozendo

They weren’t remakes, they were just SNES ports.

      • Steve Raineault

The SFC ports were remakes of FC ports.

        • Mozendo

Oh, I didn’t know that. I assumed they were just remakes. Thanks for the information.

  • KiTA

Fits DQ2′s story better, actually… Seeds matches DQ3, which introduced the seed items that increase base stats.

  • lordsofskulls

My guess is because the game is super long DQ 7 js taking long time to translate. Or given upon cause too much of a hassle. and we just might see PSN release like it happened with persona 2. But I am really hoping it will release on 3DS it only DQ I haven’t played yet or own

    • J_Joestar

it could easily be in the works but kept quiet to avoid drawing hype away from Bravely Default.

    • Pyrotek85

Yeah I recall reading that they were going over the entire script for the remake, so if that’s the case it could take some time since they’re likely starting from scratch on localization.

  • Wilynumber13

Sounds more like 2 than 3, especially since that other title we know of, Seeds of Salvation, fits more with 3.

  • Slickyslacker

Oh, don’t concern us with the supposed possibility of these trademarks being for smartphone ports.

The next Direct should be…soon. Any more than a month longer without one, and the record for the longest number of days between Directs would be broken.

  • http://www.stardust.ame-electrique.org/ Sophie

I’m hoping for the 3DS versions but at this point I just want anything to be released. I would even be ok if it’s for the smart phones I just need my Dragon Quest! Was so happy to read this article, there is still hope!

  • Kaboom

It’d had BETTER damn well be a Dragon Quest game. How far behind is S-E USA on them now? Monsters 1 3DS, DQVII 3DS, DQX on both Wii and Wii U, that Rocket Slime game, and now Monsters 2 3DS is right around the corner… better get crackin’ on that list, Square-Enix. We’re waiting.

Quite frankly, if Square-Enix abandons DQ in the West, then they lose me as a customer for good. No Final Fantasy, no Tomb Raider, no anything. If I REALLY want to play anything of theirs, I’ll buy it second-hand to make sure they don’t get any of my money for it.

  • MrRobbyM

I just was the VII remake and the newest Monster game.

  • http://www.midnightgaming.blogspot.com MidnightScott

Would buying Bravely Default show Square that we want Dragon Quest?

  • Pandakids09 .

God Enix needs to hurry up and port Dragon Quest VIII already for the Vita!

  • Kumiko Akimoto

My wii u needs a good rpg square

  • James Robert Thompson

With the recent update to DQX these could both be for that… Luminaires being the Five Tribes and Seeds being the new version… I still want the DQ7 remake though…

  • http://playstationallstars.wikia.com/wiki/PlayStation_All-Stars_Wiki Sackchief

Please just be anything as long as it comes to America! We haven’t had a legit new DQ game in so many years.

  • Kazekage Gaara

Gimme all the Dragon Quest stuff o.o I wish Square could remake the entire Erdrick/Loto Trilogy and put it on the 3ds :D

  • Anthony Hadow

If square enix would release more dragon quest games I would buy several of them. There are like 5 I would gladly buy but none of them are even being mentioned by Square

  • Space_Ghost

Anything but the “suite of smartphone remakes” please. I’d rather have them release something on the most obscure console ever created than on smartphones here in NA. Give me VII on the Halcyon RDI! I love my iPhone, but playing actual games on it is really lame.
