Unsung Story Reaches Its Kickstarter Goal

By Ishaan . February 13, 2014 . 11:22pm

Unsung Story, the tactical RPG being developed by Playdek in collaboration with Final Fantasy Tactics creator Yasumi Matsuno, has reached its crowdfunding goal on Kickstarter.

This means that the game will be released on PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android and Windows Tablets.

After the Kickstarter campaign for the game ends in a few hours, you’ll still be able to contribute funds for its development via a Paypal option that Playdek will open up.

    You’re welcome, world.

      Did you contribute?

      • Ethan_Twain

        I did!

      • d19xx

That dude occasionally finds cash in the trashcan….

  • KuroNathan

Awesome, this and project phoenix really shows off what Kickstarter can do for the JRPG community

    • brostar

It’s not really a JRPG. It’s a western RPG by Playdek with the FFT guy vaguely being involved.

      • Tiredman

Yeah, its the vagueness of it all that made me a bit annoyed, and the lack of a platform I actually play on being the major deal breaker for me bidding. I just don’t feel a game can be made well for a console when it is primarily being made for mobile devices.

        • Daigure

…but it’s being made primarily for PC. This has been established multiple times…

          • Tiredman

Guess what throws me off is that many games that are being made with mobile in mind tend to be more simplistic on the non mobile front so that they can release on non mobile and mobile with minimal work. As far as me buying it, if it turns out popular, and they decide to release it on consoles, I will pick it up, but for now, the word mobile, tablet, phone, android, iphone, all of those words are buzz kill words to me as a gamer.

Must a JRPG be made by Japanese people? How many Japanese are required to make it a JRPG?

It’s quite clearly an SRPG anyway, regardless of country of origin.

Congrats to Unsung Story! I didn’t back it, myself (I have enough things to back ahahahaaa), but I look forward to it’s release and how it turns out. I’ll probably pick up the PC version once it hits.

Too bad it won’t reach Vita, though.

Well people can still fund through PayPal, they technically can reach the vita goal as time progresses amd contributors see more of what they need to wamt to fund.

  • Namuro

Just read about how this game might not reach its funding goal over on Kotaku. Glad to see it pulls through, thanks to the fans out there!

  • KoRLumen

Yesssss! I was worried for a while that it would fall short of the goal ;_; Really glad that it’s getting funded ^^

Looks like it probably isn’t going to reach the required stretch goal for console ports… I hope that they still might be a possibility in the future.

  • Warboss Aohd

    who called it?

  • Strawberry Starlet

Just wondering, any word on the artwork so far? I know yoshida is onboard, but are these concepts indicative of final art style? I only ask cuz I’m kinda obsessed with yoshidas art right now…

  • UUDDLRLR BASTART

Maybe this will encourage Matsuno to kickstart a proper domestic project in the future with his full involvement which I then would want to fund.

  • Zer0faith

Thats good to know I already did my part and hope this reaches its stretch goals to get ported to at least one of the 2 handhelds.

  • terranoie

I really only backed the project because of Matsuno and Yoshida’s
involvement in the game. To be honest I find the game’s artwork to be
quite bland and I’m hoping that Yoshida picks up the standards for the
    art soon.

    • Lucky Dan

They have very minor involvement in the game, from what I heard as playdek is taking the main reins of the project

  • popo123

Wow so it got funded after all. Great for them. It would be awesome if they eventually port to the Vita and consoles.

  • Guest

I didn’t contribute myself but I’m looking forward to trailers and such to buy it on PC when it’s released.

  • lordsofskulls

Kinda wished it got up 2 1,000,000. For at least PS Vita Edition as well…

  • Saifer Emmerich

I feel bad that this game didn’t get as much enthusiasm as Mighty No. 9 and other Kickstarter projects. Matsuno is one of the best designers in my opinion, especially after FFXII.

  • pimpalicious

I’ll wait and see how this goes. I would’ve help fund if it was close to any of the stretch goals I wanted.
