Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Getting A Few Tweaks Earlier Than Planned

By Ishaan . February 20, 2014 . 10:32am

Patch 2.16 for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is “right around the corner” out now, and includes new achievement rewards, additions to the Duty Finder, and other system refinements that were originally scheduled for patch 2.2.

A number of these changes are smaller tweaks that you wouldn’t be able to understand or appreciate unless you were actually playing the game, so we’ll refrain from posting a lengthy list here. Instead, you can view the full list of patch notes on this page.

Update: The patch is available now. Thanks to Tony Garsow for the heads up!

  • Monterossa

    lift the weekly Coil lockout.

    • Zetayuri

That’s coming in 2.2 and only for turns 1-5.

  • meiam

Any chance of changing the global cool down to something reasonable (2.5 second is just ridiculous)?

    • Tinye

I think it’s actually nice to have a long GCD. Makes it easier to see all the cool animations and spell affects and it stops me from button mashing like I do with 1sec GCD’s

    • Wait what

The content in the game is designed around it’s global cooldown. If you are playing end-game properly then you should NEVER be doing nothing or waiting for the GCD. There are skills off the GCD you could be using, there are things you should be setting up, there are attacks you’ll probably be needing to dodge, and so on. Even in classes like Monk where you are chaining combos, the GCD does not negatively affect anything. Especially since you are normally moving back and forth between the back and the side of the enemy and the next skill is ready for use when you are in position.

And, really, on the off chance that you ARE sitting around waiting for your GCD, the 1 extra second really isn’t taking up that much of your life. It took you more time to read any sentence in this post than it did to wait for the GCD.

    • Crevox

It’s not ridiculous because abilities (not Weaponskills or Spells) are off the GCD. At high levels you press more than enough buttons in order to do a good DPS rotation/tanking/whatever. Lowering the GCD would be crazy, as the majority of players can’t keep up as is.

      • meiam

Just set up macro for every ability off the GCD. You can do your entire rotation perfectly with 4-5 button, In fact you’ll get better damage out of it then you would pressing all button manually.

        • Crevox

Macros are terrible for optimal DPS, and anyone else can tell you that too. Cooldowns need to be synced up with other skills, DoTs need to be snapshotted, and things like Fester can only be used if DoTs are already on the target. You can’t just mash abilities, and that’s even more true for tanks and healers.

That’s just an example for Summoners. For other classes, it will get you killed (Dragoon).

        • Duo Maxwell

          Stop playing archer.

        • Ferrick

          please stop using macros, those aren’t the optimal way to dish out dps, you get better damage output by not using macros, because;
          A) Macros will hold you on the ground as you cast your skill, and that’ll get you killed when you activate macro while you’re running

          B) it’s easier to time it manually instead of using macros

  • Steven Bambic

@monterossa:disqus if you’ve followed any of their live letters, they will remove the lockout when they open up more of the coil.

  • Spirit Macardi

I’d like an option to tackle dungeons and other duties using a chocobo partner or an AI-controlled team, since I’m sick of being partnered up with complete idiots >.>

    • Lol

    • MogCakes

I would love for them to allow that just to see the repeated failures by said AI XD

      • Spirit Macardi

I dunno, my chocobo partner at least always remembers to heal me. And I play a tank, so that’s kind of important.

        • MogCakes

The big problem is DPS checks.

    • They have this feature in XI right now called the “Trust Initiative”

Basically you run around and depending on quest/mission progression throughout storylines you can recruit a “trust” version (almost a 1/4 to 1/2 powered clone, but with that stats of your current weapon’s level) of a ‘famous’ NPC in the game.

Currently 3 are summonable combined with your “Adventuring fellow” that you lvl separately, you can have a party of 5 people taking on dungeons together ranging from front line, back line, support, etc., a nice addition for XI players, which is what XIV needs sooner rather than later, but since it’s a new game, doubtful it’ll come sooner :(

    • Lucky Dan

well what happens if the AI controlled party memebers are worse than the complete idiots that got imported from WOW?

      • Spirit Macardi

If they always heal me and understand to stay AWAY from enemy attacks, I can’t see how they’d be any worse x3

  • Lucky Dan

    >> Pressing the Pause key will now turn your character’s head toward the camera.

Seriously I wonder who is this targetted for? All they need is your character to blush and its perfect.
