Demon Gaze Will Have Disgaea Crossover Characters As DLC

By Spencer . February 26, 2014 . 7:26pm

Prinny is about to go dungeon crawling. NIS America and Kadokawa Games partnered to add Disgaea cameo characters to Demon Gaze. Players will be able to get Etna, Flonne, Asagi, Sicily, and Prinny as Demon Gaze party members as free downloadable content when Demon Gaze launches on April 22 in North America and April 25 in Europe.

The Disgaea cameos will be available via PSN during the first month when Demon Gaze is available. These cameo characters are new for the English version and were not in the Japanese release.

is this unique to the americaian version?

    • AkuLord3

…Did you just miss that part in the article?

      • revenent hell

Didn’t read the full article would be my guess.
I do tend to skim some articles like the “game review” type posts (because frankly most reviewers , not just here, are horribly inaccurate and just give me the impression the game they are reviewing is of a genre or type they aren’t used to playing or have even minimal experience with…I could tirade for days about reviewers……)
Anyhoo those do tend to be on the rather long side so I don’t blame most for skimming at a certain point but honestly this article was kind of short enough not to have to it would be kind of comical if someone did

    • revenent hell

copy/pasted from article: These cameo characters are new for the English version and were not in the Japanese release.

      In short yes.

      • r0gamer940

you are going to laugh I read the entire article and totally missed that part. Happens to me on occasions

  • AkuLord3

Woah, we get something cool that Japan didn’t 8D. I’m kinda surprised Laharl isn’t added in this but with crossovers to other games, besides Sicily, they’re always showing up

    • This is very minor, “characters” are just portraits, nothing more. Still kind of cool. I’m assuming by that same stroke NA players will not be able to acquire the IA (Aria on the Planetes) portrait though.

      • Aqua King

        They aren’t even voiced?

        • While you do get to select from an assortment of ‘voice’ options (they are really only attack and death grunt sounds, party members have no actual conversation or story involvement), this DLC will not include those character voices.

JPN also got Promise (the half undressed undertaker girl) as a party portrait. She has a distinctive voice and it was really annoying to have a party member with her portrait that did not sound like her at all.

These are very very superficial additions.

          • Aqua King

That’s kindof depressing. At least the DLC for Disgaea D2 attempted at giving the characters their own voices. *shrugs* If it will indeed be free, I guess I don’t have real complaints.

    • Crazy_O

I can’t believe what I read and needed some sort of confirmation in the comments. Thanks.

  • HerokÔÖ×

    Now I am interested

  • Pretty cool that they’re doing this for us. Thanks NISA. Only 2 months to go =^_^=

  • Grunwald

    • Duo Maxwell

Asagi is in every game, except her own game.

      • natchu96

Damn you beat me to it!

        Go Asagi GO!

  • revenent hell

OK I was going to say I’m not a Disgaea fan and I wouldn’t mind overlooking the DLC until I read further and it said free for the first month…… That being said I think I’ll grab them, at worst I don’t have to use the them but free is free and I cant really complain about it. Seeing their stats and skillsets is worth the download so there’s kind of no reason not to.
I mean its almost unheard of, of companies giving out free DLC, especially character DLC at that…..I hope free characters for a limited time becomes a trend :D

    • In Demon Gaze you add characters to your party by “renting” additional rooms from Fran. When you recruit you can basically build whatever kind of character you want (one of those options being the character portrait/sprite).

That’s basically all that’s being added here are some character portrait sprites. As far as add-on, this is the most superfluous kind, but it’s still fun. JPN got IA as one of their DLC character sprites (I made her my Elf healer).

      • revenent hell

Im not normally one to keep myself from knowing about a game, I never really “feel” spoiled by knowing stuff since playing it is a different experience than just knowing what happens, but for this game I was kind of keeping myself oblivious about the gameplay and stuff. Im not really sure why to be honest……..

I appreciate you telling me this though. Given how there’s no special anything other than portrait sprites I think I might revert back to not bothering with the DLC……..

Normally for character DLC I tend to think of special abilities, skills or stats or something to go with the character that’s all their own so I kind of assumed these ones would have a special one of the above… I cant say I have ever been tempted to buy a DLC character for any game I have played so I just kind of have always ran on the theory that they had “special” bits to make them worth buying beyond aesthetic reasons…..

  • Renvile

Really digging the art. Awesome postbattle screen too.

  • LustEnvy

But…but it’s characters you can’t even see on screen. That’s cheating. I know these games harken back to old school games, but I feel a disconnect when I can’t see my character’s actions, so i don’t like playing these 1st person RPGs. The only one I went through was Earthbound. Loved it, but that game had a lot of heart outside of battle.

    • DyLaN

Maybe you should try Persona Q and/or MIND 0. These have 3D models of the characters in battle.

  • Prinny Dood

So do thee dlc turn the game into a srpg? Instead of drpg? If not I’ll pass on this game , mesa hates drpgs >:(

    • revenent hell

Excuse me but what the hell does DLC have to do with what “Type” of rpg this is? DLC never changes what the game type is. If its a shoot em up it will still be a shoot em up, if its a fighting game it will still be a fighting game… DLC doesn’t change what the game ultimately is ..
If you don’t like dungeon crawlers than this game wont be for you period regardless of DLC.

      • Prinny Dood

Don’t pay any attention to me ,im just spatting nonsense

        • revenent hell

I rarely get bothered when someone expresses their dislike of a video game for whatever reason unlike the majority of the small minded folks who seem to be under the impression the comment section is solely for the praising and cooing about a game.

I’m not that egotistical that I cant comprehend others may have a different view of something and wish to state it as well. “My” opinion and only those of like minded people are NOT the only ones that should be typed in the comments and its the epitome of ignorant to think it is so

If that was the case then siliconera should have long ago changed their commenting/discussion area to be “praise only”.

The only time I ever really get irritated is when people hate on a game without actually giving reasons. I dislike a lot of things but at least I can articulate why I dislike what I do and saying its to time consuming to do so is just lazy. By all rights if its to time consuming to state why one dislikes something then there’s no reason to even state your dislike to begin with in my opinion.

Frankly I don’t even grasp why you would “spout nonsense” such as this unless you either truly believed such ridiculousness or you honestly dislike dungeon crawlers and don’t feel brave enough to actually admit to either.

          • Prinny Dood

I hear ya but like I said just spatting nonse, I actually pre order the game. Im getting mind zero aswell

          • revenent hell

I don’t believe you in all honesty since you added in this “mesa” person after my first post in reply.
If you dislike the game for its genre just man up and say ” I don’t like this genre because” and give your reasons.

          • Prinny Dood

Believe what you like. Btw when i said *mesa* I was acting like a gungan from star wars

  • DyLaN

So….. do the english ver still get the IA and inn occupants DLC? Or is it replaced by the Disgaea one?

  • KiTA

I’m really torn on this. I want the limited edition, but I’m absolutely DONE with physical media. I wish they’d offer a LE version that came with a download voucher instead of physical, heh.

    • revenent hell

Wow! I can honestly say that’s the first time I have read that particular statement.

  • KiTA

Er, wow. That font seems… weird. I’m used to more square-ish letters in my games, I guess.

  • Anime10121

I want to want this game, but 1st person dungeon crawling/battles…ugh. :(

    • SerendipityX

I really interested in this because of the character creation but I’m not too fond of dungeon crawling either.

      • Anime10121

I like the character creation aspect as well, but what’s the point if you rarely ever see them :(

  • DyLaN
  • Earthjolly

Valvatorez, Please let it be Valvatorez

We need the Power of SARDINES!!!

  • Pandakids09 .

    Sweet glad i pre-ordered this!

  • Won’t be getting the game straight away, but will be downloading these ASAP. I wish Raspberyl was one of them.

  • artemisthemp
