Is This Is Going To Be You, When You Buy Senran Kagura Burst?

By Ishaan . February 27, 2014 . 11:00am

PQube and Marvelous AQL have released two amusing promotional videos for the European version of Senran Kagura Burst, which is seeing a physical release in Europe on February 28th. You can watch the two promos below.

  • AlteisenX

Its already me buying a new Pokemon game… or anime game… lol

    • JoJo_718

MMMM, where do you live? because Pokémon it’s pretty much an accepted phenomenon on people of all ages (75% adults – young adults, though):

    • I don’t think kids even like Pokémon. Ironic. They buy shooters which are made for adults and we adults buy Pokémon which is made for kids.

      • JoJo_718

There are a few kiddos who still like it, I see a bunch of them on the release dates in my country, sure not a lot, but there is still a bit of hope in the young ones.

  • Sentsuizan_93

To answer the question to the article: Yes.

  • Thrasher429

The trick is that when they look at you judgingly make them feel awkward instead by maintaining that eye contact for an uncomfortable amount of time.

    • psycho_bandaid

Ah that look that says “The next couple of words out of your mouth will be more important than you realize. Choose wisely.”

    • hazelnut1112

Maybe go to the grocery store before and buy a cucumber and a little jar of KY jelly while buying this game.

  • idrawrobots

I could not understand that guy at ALL!

    • TheGioG

  • Arcana Drill

And this is all worth for the bewbs… and butts too.

  • Original Sayin Prince

if your a man than you ain’t scared to buy jack

    • you’re*

      • Charles

        Piss off.

    • TheGioG

*Stands behind piles of Senran Kagura merchandise*
Pokerfacing is the name of the game. Clerks got no choice but to respect someone who don’t give a damn about other’s opinions.

      • Repede91

        My Hibari figures don`t lie… I love my hometown…

        • British_Otaku

I’ve got a preorder lined up for Fire Emblem Awakening’s Tharja ( ) and Senran Kagura 2’s set of mini figures…

I’m going to have to add some Katsuragi to the bunch.

  • Maumac77

Naw. Showed it off to my friends when I got it. Only one of them was intrigued. The rest went “meh, combat be better”

  • Hahaha, omg, these guys are so honest about their product its not even funny! XD

    • Oh, but it is.

  • Also wtf, his mom found a bra in his room and was cool with it, but freaks out when she sees a racy video game?

    • Maybe it’s his mom’s bra?

      • Go2hell66

        maybe its his

      • If that was the case, I would have serious concerns.

    • Lifesong

      That’s the joke.

      • Nanaki

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who saw the joke in it.

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

I swear the ones working in Marvelous AQL Europe are trolls. They KNOW stuff like this would be controversial as if Senran Kagura is the 21st century equivalent to Mortal Kombat and Grand Theft Auto.

    • Rol

Shouldn’t be too shocked. It’s the same attitude that prevails around the net, just look at Kickstarter.

  • karldeck

I give this 2 weeks before Sweden start banning it, and then ban it over the entire Nordic.

    • AkiraScare

      Like Lolis? (0_0)

  • Go2hell66

lol reminds me of the time i went to buy the 1st HDN game

  • KoRLumen

For the plot. Glorious glorious plot.

    • David García Abril

You were waiting for this, weren’t you? lol

      • idrawrobots

I hope Ishaan doesn’t see this.

      • Pheria

Goodness, that plot is powerful. What’s it from?

        • Sentsuizan_93

          Maoyuu Maou Yuusha

      • Christopher Nunes

You do realize that gifs are banned on this site, right? It’s better to change it to a video quickly before you get in trouble for it dude.

  • Just over 12 hours… You’ll be mine.

  • $23890725

haha nice once but no that´s not me because I live alone so never need to worry about what I play no one will ever now.

  • convinced my GF to get this for me xD

We both needed a Fanservice game xD

  • omeganeko

The first video nearly happened to me. I wanted to pre-order it to get the poster but I only had a in store gift card. lucky I double checked my bank account before I did. so I was able to order it online.

  • Crazy_O

    This is hilarious.

  • Sapitntapit

If I have a 3DS from the US, would I be able to play the European physical copy on it?

    • Go2hell66

    • Slickyslacker

Nope, 3DS games are region-locked, though the 3DS isn’t. You can still play DS games of any region on it, but not 3DS games.

      • Sapitntapit

        Well that’s disappointing.
        Digital copy it is.

  • psycho_bandaid

No shame my European breathren. This is the time to go all out. “Hi, I’d like to buy a gigantic pair of anime boobs. Senran Kagura? Yeah I will buy that too, but I’d really just like some tits.”

Then strut out of the shop with your game (and maybe some silicon).

    • Stephen Mc Devitt

I can’t even admit that I like MLP:FiM to my family or let them know of the kind of content that goes in Game of Thrones.

      • Christopher Nunes

I admitted to my family I like MLP: FiM… heck my parents seen me order the DVDs for it and they don’t mind (though my mom questions my tastes and doesn’t understand why I like it but doesn’t press me about it).

Don’t know much about Game of Thrones.

  • Dingus

Americans were never even given the chance…

    • JMaster3000

And Europeans were never given a chance with Rune Factory 4…
I think our story is more sad.

      • Kumiko Akimoto

Yeah at least we got senran

        • JMaster3000

I’m actually protesting by not buying senran cause they canned RF for no reason!

          • AkiraScare

One person…. that will affect the sales dramatically (^_^)

          • JMaster3000

There are probably more that feel backstabbed like me :)

          • British_Otaku

I feel “backstabbed” by that move even if Rune Factory is more of a series that my brother is into, however it makes no sense to avoid a game I actually want in response.

Capcom and EA have the exact same case. I’m not touching a number of their titles on principal but will give Ace Attorney or Titanfall a spin.

          • JMaster3000

Yup, will get the games that i wanna play but atm there’s no from AQL…..
I wanted to try Senran Kagura cause they WERE releasing RF4 but now nope.

The thing that pisses me off is that they haven’t said the REASON and DON”T WANT to say it.
            That’s what its bugging me.
And now i’m thinking to get a USA 3DS to play it…

          • nonscpo

Wow so you would actually give up the game you would get over the one you couldnt…You make my avatar very sad :(

          • Kumiko Akimoto

That’s stupid, really stupid. Different projects have different budgets. So not buying senran will just make you lose the option to get another senran game if one gets ready to come over.

          • Kaitsu

“Let’s protest by not buying their games anymore so they can release XXXX, even though they can’t because they don’t have money due to us protesting!”

            Solid plan.

      • Dingus

Man, I wish I could understand that pain, after all, you still haven’t gotten SMT IV, have you?

    • Aristides

I honestly wouldn’t be so butt-hurt if the 3DS wasn’t region locked… but since it is XSEED really has to get their game on and stop all this digital only crap. (Butt really Niintendo has to stop region locking, no one else does that anymore…)

      • Nintendo invented region coding. They’re only trying to stay true to their roots.

        • idrawrobots

Back in my day region coding was a extra plastic piece of the cartridge.

          • hng qtr

            So much easier…

      • MoriyaMug

I don’t think you appreciate A. just how expensive 3DS cart manufacturing is, and B. just how small-scale XSEED is. A physical release for an unknown quantity, no matter how heavily requested, is a massive risk. Requests don’t equate to sales.

        • Aristides

Sorry friend, XSEED was afraid of public backlash that’s why they made it digital only. I’ve seen smaller companies dish out more expensive to produce physical copies and sell them at fair pricing. Retail risk is definitely not the cause especially when XSEED themselves have released far more niche retail games in recent memory (heck look at VK3, not even Otaku fans wanted hat one 0-0)

          • buddyluv324

I wouldnt say exactly that they were afraid of the backlash. Don’t forget they did also published both Valhalla Knights 3 and Killer is Dead. Both titles that have both physical and digital copies and has gotten more backlash than Senran Kagura Burst.

          • Aristides

That’s because SK didn’t have a retail release and was only promoted in specific channels geared toward our fanbase. They relied more on fanfare and word of mouth rather than marketing. The problem (for them) with SK was the fact that some of the girls in the game are underage, something the mainstream media will undoubtedly burn XSEED for. They succeeded releasing SK without backlash which is good for everyone but at the cost of physical copies which our fanbase in particular is very fond of.

          • buddyluv324

…And even so, it still didnt stop Chris Rooke from ONM from bitching about how one little game can damage the industry. It doesnt matter if a title like SKB is released digital or physical. Someone WILL find it eventually and complain how a niche title they had zero interest in from the begining hurts their feelings.

          • Aristides

Very true, I guess all that can really be done is just damage control. I’m pretty sure some people even had their eyes on the game’s release just to bitch about it.

          • MoriyaMug

Given that I was the individual who translated SKB and am privy to no small amount of information on the subject, I feel comfortable in sticking with my previous statement.

      • Chersea

I do agree that Nintendo need to stop region locking, but even Valve does it with Steam (see Metal Gear Rising) and there have been reports about Xbox One having digitally region locked games.

    • James Williams

I think they have quite a few titles over us in europe.

    • DS23

What gets a physical release in one western region and a digital only in the other is really weird these days…

  • Anewme…Again

Well, no physical copy here, but no i wouldn’t be like that.

  • Earthjolly

and this is why I order online

  • artemisthemp

    This commercial almost rival
    Segata Sanshiro

  • SetzerGabbiani

    Awesome ads! No shying away.

  • Dexward

That mother touching that used tissue…

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

Seeing a display copy at a GAME store in Derry was something unexpected. I swear only the strangest, questionable games out there, ranging from ecchi like Senran Kagura to legit abominations like Ride to Hell, have better chances of getting physical (and sometime localised) releases than the likes of Final Fantasy Type-0, Yakuza 5, Valkyria Chronicles 3 and Drakengard 3. The last one IS coming to the west but mostly as a digital download.

    • Sentsuizan_93

Saw the same thing at my local GAME. I was surprised. And pleased at the same time. It was….. refreshing…

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

It was more scary to me BECAUSE of how unexpected this unlikely game would come to Europe but I’ll look tomorrow and see some older ones (parents in short) buying the game for their children without realising what exactly they’re buying.

        • Shippoyasha

Well, most clerks should be a proper buffer for that. If they are well trained.

    • British_Otaku

As with anything, it is all about sales potential and the companies having confidence in the projects. Very few copies were localising PSP games at the point when Type-0 and VC3 came out and in SEGA’s case all of the franchises you listed are fairly niche with declining sales across installments (some argue Yakuza’s zombie game killed the franchise in that sense). Senran Kagura Burst wasn’t a retail game in North America and judging from multiple parties making the retail release possible in Europe, we got lucky.

I wouldn’t say Drakengard 3 is coming west “mostly” as a digital download. Okay, you could argue that there are ton of people and countries outside America and Japan… Then that there will be non-English Multi-5 folks missing out… Yep. It is still two regions out of three even if it sucks for us enough that I’ll probably import if it isn’t priced well.

And I’m surprised that Ride to Hell from what I’ve seen could pass the regulations that Sony and Microsoft have… I mean it runs sorta but…

  • Adrián Alucard

In Spain will be released March 21st (physical). Dunno why

  • Kroz

Reminds me of the time i had to ask the store clerk if they had “dragon ball z budokai tenkaichi tag team”. the name went right over his head and he kept misspelling it when he would put it into the computer. Since then amazon is purely for my weird anime games.

  • Letrico

    Hah this is genius advertising

  • Kumiko Akimoto

    They got promotions

  • Jesse Torres

Ishan, can you change the title of the article?
You added one too many IS. It should be Is this going to be you, not Is this IS going to be you.

  • JMaster3000

” for the European version of Senran Kagura Burst ”
    >Sees American flag

  • hazelnut1112

I really love how they embrace the whole thing behind this game. I really hope we get the second game in the US as a physical copy this time.

  • Original Sayin Prince

the 3ds just needs to be region free

  • Son of a Smooosh

God bless whoever came up with this.

  • makubexnas

To all comrade that buy physical release of Senran Kagura Burst game.

  • AkiraScare

I felt this way when i bought Hyperdimension at gamestop a long time ago (TT_TT)

    • Hikari Langley

I insulted my Gamestop employee, when he told me that game was “scary”

      • Aristides

        Do tell more XP

        • Hikari Langley

I’m surprised he even gave me that comment, when I came to pick the game up.

    • Aristides

I never found it wired, mean Anime games with strong plot are scattered across the PS3 section of any Game Stop (and LE’s behind the counter) employees are just happy to make sales XD.

      • AkiraScare

Well it was a lady and she turned the game case and saw…. Nep Nep in Bondages (TT_TT)

        I never went wired when i buy games… just sayin…. (0_0)

        • Aristides

Oh wow, that’s just plain awkward 0-0 I totally get you now. Talk about bad luck. Don’t worry you’ll probably trip on a diamond one of these days lol.

        • Thatguy

Suddenly, i remembered that time, when i bought hentai game from store. Lady, who selled game had pokerface and selled like any normal game. Even with that cover.
2nd time i came to that store she asked: did you like it? if yes, i can recommend you another game like that.

That employee was a true professional. Too sad, that store got closed because of low sales…

  • Kayriss Wins

If I were given the privilege to get a physical release i’d have best poker face any retailers ever seen, just like when I bough Super Princess Peach or Project Diva.

    • Aristides

      Project Diva FTW!

  • We need advertising like this more often XD

  • Kazekage Gaara

At least us North Americans get everything Atlus before Europe :3

    • Ricardo C

Dude, thats a little harsh. I live in NA and I find that pretty low. Not everything gets released here in NA before Europe. Europe has some games from Japan that never made it here AT ALL (good games too). The only reason why Europe doesn’t get Atlus titles is because they dont have an Atlus office over there like we do and European fans have to depend on a third party company to publish the game like how Square Enix published Persona 4 over there at the time.

  • Kazekage Gaara

Watch when this sells like shit…then you’ll be sorry XSEED :(

  • Firion Hope

    Pretty funny.

To be serious though (and I know its just a funny commercial) Im not into this whole shaming what people like thing. It reminds me of when video games as a whole were something only for nerds and geeks and you were supposed to hide it. We don’t see people being ashamed to buy the latest kill sim, so why should they be ashamed to buy his

Id buy it the same way Id buy any other game, no shame.

  • DesmaX

Reminds me when I brought Neptunia mk2 physical.

    Never again

  • Prinny Dood

Sucks to be an american dood >v<

  • subsamuel01

Wish they would release limited physical copies of this game like they did with the recent One Piece game.

  • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

That first PV sound like a lot like the Atelier Totori copypasta.

  • LDM

The article is published on the wrong region. :X

  • The Watcher

    Seth Rogan, is that you?

  • Cursingcomet

At times like these, self-conciousness never fails to attack you. The only way to eliminate this sensory conciousness is to muster your courage and buy it without a care in the world. Wtf am i even typing?

  • This is what online retail is for! Preordered months ago!

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

I wish ‘murica was so cool about vidya. That was hilarious.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    advertising, done right

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

What a cool Ads lol. ^_^ Especially when saying Senran Kagura Burst even causes baby to cry lol.^_^

  • J_Joestar

I wish, but i live in NA so had to settle for mumbling “eshop cards” instead.

  • psfam

Those were pretty funny. Wish we could get it here in the states. Wishful thinking.
