Tecmo Koei Haven’t Forgotten About Atelier Escha & Logy For The West

By Ishaan . February 28, 2014 . 12:31pm

Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky is slated for released on March 11th in North America and March 7th in Europe, and Tecmo Koei have shared a trailer for the game that highlights a number of the features you’ll find within.

As the title suggests, Atelier Escha & Logy features two protagonists. Escha’s campaign represents the familiar Atelier experience, while Logy’s campaign is meant to provide a more traditional RPG experience.

It was a bad idea to listen how the voice actors sound like! >o<

    • Wesley Kenneth Houpt Mattingly

None to worry, it has Japanese audio as well!

    • Nanaki

Overreacting a smidge? They honestly sound pretty good.

      • Magicks

Yeah. The VA sounds pretty solid. (Though not a fan of Linca’s.)

    • TreizeX

      Really now?
      They sound fine

    • Jesse

      They sound fine. =P

    • Loli Summoner

I always liked the atelier series VC. My fav is rorona’s ^^

    • Muddied_Waters

I plan on playing it with the Japanese voices, but even if it were English only, I wouldn’t have a problem with any of them. Kinda hokey, sure, but I think they sound pretty good otherwise.

    • Scipio

Yeah, I’ll give you that some sounded odd, however it’s a trailer and I’ve been fooled before because I passed judgement too quickly.

    • Hikari Langley

Yes, English voices make the game more enjoyable~ Main reason I’m buying this game again!!!

    • Crimson_Cloud

They are alright, the usual over-acting that occur in most of these types of games. You can’t expect Telltale’s level of voice acting honestly. Still, if Japanese audio is present, then I’m going with that naturally. ˇˇ

  • LM009

This can’t come soon enough >_< I haven't alchemized since meruru plus back in september haha

  • Quinnjdq

Absolutely stoked! Already put down about 10 for it so I am really excited to just go pick it up. Logy’s voice is fantastic!

    • Fsteak

Who the heck is voicing him anyway? I thought it was Yuri Lownthal at first, but his voice is much deeper than that.

      • Yuri Lowenthal’s voice is another dude I think… not sure but im pretty sure i heard it in that trailer.

‘Scuse me while I watch it again :O

  • Magicks

I guess since they released the trailer, there’s no chance for a LE. : < Aw.

    • Anime10121

God I just now realized this means no chance for an Ar Nosurge CE with artbook when its localize :(

Nippon Icchi WHY U NOT BUY GUST D:

  • Aldorr

Wonder if Keith will show up…

  • Loli Summoner

Don’t be fooled by that hand touch, there’s NO romance in this game ;) hmhmhm. Maybe the anime will, tho I doubt it.

    • Really? That’s a downer =_=

      • Loli Summoner

Yeah, I know some people like that stuff, the Atelier series isn’t really know for romance really.
I think like two Atelier games had romance.
If you played Atelier Ayesha you would think that ayesha and this guy named ernie would hook up but nah.

  • DanielGearSolid

Can’t wait, I gotta crunch and beat this Tales of Symphonia Chronicles first

  • Son of a Smooosh

Nice, really digging the english voices.

  • EinMugenTenshin

Pre-ordered it. Will be my first Atelier game though, and I have no idea what I am getting into.

    • Loli Summoner

My first was Atelier Rorona. TBH I didn’t like it at first but then, I gave it another chance and I loved it after I knew what I was doing, the only thing I hate is the time management, I feel like I have to rush everything to do everything.
The crafting is really fun, you just wanna sit there and craft to make different effects of a item you can use in battle such as healing items or attack items.
Another thing cool that I like is the humor, some scenes actually make me laugh and the music is GREAT in the Atelier series, like amazing lol but that’s a personal liking. Also, If you like turnbase combat you might like the battle system in Atelier.
I hope you like this game :) it’s a good series.

      • Arcana Drill

Yes the music in atelier (gust) is so amazing, atelier and ar tonelico have my favorite osts. =D

    • Enjoy it! I would’ve recommended getting Ayesha first (since it’s before this game, chronologically), but it’s your call. I’m sure it’s gonna be enjoyable though for you!

      • Wait so Ayesha is a prequel of this game? I thought it’s a standalone story, though I know rorona, meruru, and totori is a trilogy

        • Alestaos

I have Ayesha and havent really played it. I did query about wheter it would effect my enjoyment of Dusk. And i was told by their twitter than really it doesnt matter, but playing Ayesha would give you a bit more insight to some jokes etc

        • It’s a prequel, but not in the case you might be familiar with.

See, Ayesha and Escha & Logy are part of the Dusk series, so they’re gonna be interconnected. There will be characters in Escha & Logy that were introduced in and expanded upon in Ayesha’s story, and the backstory of the world itself might end up being lost on you a bit without realizing the significance of the events in Ayesha.

Now, I imagine Escha & Logy will still be more than doable to play standalone, but you will miss a lot of details as to the game’s basis itself, and who some of the characters are.

        • notentirelythere

They’re ALL standalone games, but each game fits within a series (Rorona through Meruru in the Arland series, Ayesha and Escha in the Dusk series). Each series takes place in its own universe and follows common methodology. Each game follows a different central cast of protagonists (with old friends liberally strewn throughout in series sequels).
I’d say: start with Escha & Logy! If only because, being the second game in the series, it’s got a better footing on what it’s trying to accomplish. Plus, if you’re intrigued enough by the characters/universe and want more (at the cost of a probably less refined overall experience), you can go back and get Ayesha anytime.

    • James Darkly

  • Looking super forward to the release of this! It’ll be at my house after I come back from an upcoming trip, and I’ll have something to dive right into.

  • Hikari Langley

March 11 can’t be here any sooner, the hype train has taken off!

  • Cannot wait to get my hands on this title!

  • Learii

Gust I love your games that all I can say

  • CleruTesh

Meh. I’m honestly not a sprite whore, but I liked this series so much better when it was sprites.

    • Arcana Drill

Seriously? what games you played in sprites? cause if its atelier iris or mana khemia maybe isnt the sprites, but the focus on battle and traditional defeat the villain storyline?

      • CleruTesh

While I really liked the way the sprites looked, you may be correct. Those were the titles I had in mind. Well, also Ar Tonelico. But I’ve also played the DS one where you build a resort or something, and, while sprite-based; it was still meh.

        • Arcana Drill

Yes, if you disliked atelier annie is probably cause of the change of the focus (actually they went back to their roots) after the sales failure that were iris and mana khemia, its funny cause the “black sheep” of the series are the most beloved in west.

  • Arcana Drill

    The music is so catchy~
Gust games always make me search for the musics so i can them hear later.

  • 3PointDecoupage

Two protagonists is a great idea. Playing as puny little girls has always been a big turn off for me.

    • Mr_SP

Then Atelier is probably not a game series you should be overly concerned about. It’s very purpose is to fill the “lighthearted girl’s game” genre. (Without failing the Bechdel test, or devolving into romance-driven plotlines.)

Not that a second protagonist is bad, or that Atelier hasn’t had male protagonists, but that’s not usually where the series is coming from.

      • kyrt

lol what the atelier games haven’t had male protagonists…I think you may be misinformed. Remember Atelier Iris 1, 2, and 3 because the main protagonist in those were definitely male.

As for this trailer itself sounds tolerable…however I really dislike the localization still for this series. If only NISA still maintained a hold on gust we wouldn’t have this bullshit that tecmo koei is going to do…as for what they are going to do wait until the dlc…what used to be free now will likely cost money and every dlc will be between 4-10 dollars. We don’t know this for sure but considering their usual policies with dlc I can honestly say I’m very hesitant about this release.

        • Mr_SP

I said it’s had male protagonists before. But Atelier Iris (and Mana Khemia, if you stretch it) was a departure from standard form. The first five Atelier games were female-centric, Atelier Iris 1 was male centric (though Lita had a big role), while Atelier Iris 2 and 3 were shared, like this game is, then the three Arland games, all female-centric, then Ayesha, which was female centric, and now we have a shared game again. On top of that, a number of side story games – 8 of them – were released, all with female leads, only one of which making it overseas.

That’s 9 female protagonist games (or 17 if you include the spin-offs), 1 male protagonist (3 if you include the two Mana Khemia games), and 3 with both. The overwhelming majority of games are heavily female centric. Especially the only 4 published games on the PS3. It is very hard to justify playing Atelier games when you don’t want to play as a girl.

          • M’iau M’iaut

Interesting that likely the changes made in Iris was what allowed it to be the first game to come over. The series was certainly not unknown to niche Western players of that era, but a boy going out on a more traditional adventure was not as ‘unique’ as a girl gathering ferns in fantasy Germany. And thus easier to bring over.

          • Mr_SP

True. Despite that, the fact that Atelier Rorona wasn’t even remotely pro-male hasn’t stopped it from succeeding, nor from releasing Vita remakes of all the PS3 titles, so clearly the series isn’t lacking an audience.

I suspect that may be part of Escha & Logy’s strategy – appeal to the males with JRPG inclinations, then convince them to spend time playing as Escha, and getting addicted to traditional Atelier values and gameplay.

I know it worked on me, when Atelier Iris convinced me to get Atelier Rorona.

    • “You country bumpkin!”

    • DanielGearSolid

Yea, I cant do the play as fluffy little girls thing either

  • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

    dat English Linca voice.

    • SerendipityX

“I will not stop…I will destroy everything with this move!”

  • Sav

atleast it doesn’t look as kiddie as the previous games.

    gonna give it a shot.

    • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

Prepare to be disappointed then, gramps.

  • Jesse

I had a feeling Reyfer would have that kind of accent. XD

  • pekikuubik

Escha’s VA sounds like she doesn’t really want to be there. No enthusiasm at all for the role. The others are fine, especially the male VAs.

Also, somebody teach whoever created this trailer how to mix audio.

  • Look good so far… you know what to do now TK… aside from no CE/LE, as long as you don’t scru up further, I gots my $$$ ready…

    Show me you want it.

  • M’iau M’iaut

Quick mention here folks. Finding a bit too many hate comments in the thread. If the series doesn’t meet your exacting social standards, move on and find somewhere else to post the bigoted thoughts.

  • Yan Zhao

They certainly have forgotten to release an LE/CE, which NISA never forgot for the Arland trilogy. :

  • Slayven19

Can’t wait for this, got it pre-orded at amazon now since I’m too lazy to go to gamestop and get it.

  • Ryumoau

i really enjoyed Ayesha, so i can’t wait for the new game.

  • PenguinChan1119

I’m so disappointed by Amazon’s treatment of this game. Not only, did I not get my release date delivery which I was expecting today but the pre order bonus is nowhere to be found. If I would have known this would happen especially no release date delivery I would have ordered with gamestop.
