Xseed Have No Plans To Localize Valhalla Knights 3 Gold

By Ishaan . March 5, 2014 . 3:32pm

In Japan, Valhalla Knights 3 saw an updated re-release last week, titled Valhalla Knights 3 Gold. The update introduces new features, such as new jobs, characters and weather effects.

North America, however, will not be seeing this update. Xseed Games, who translated and published Valhalla Knights 3 in America, stated on Facebook that they have no plans to localize the game.

Xseed are, however, did announce another localization today. They’re bringing Akiba’s Trip 2 to North America.

    oh my goldu

  • Atwa

I am guessing that Valhalla Knights 3 didn’t do so well. Still a shame, I feel like I could have given Gold a shot.

  • Well I saw this coming but oh well.

  • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

  • landlock

I’m actually surprised so many Valhalla Knights games have been brought over already. Never could get into the series.

    • KnifeAndFork

I played the first one which was interesting. Couldn’t get into the second one or the Wii one and didn’t pick up the third…

    • chibidw

Well, it’s because it’s the pet project of MarvelousAQL, XSeed’s parent company. So XSeed doesn’t really have a choice in the matter.

It’s like Atlus with Persona….if Persona sucked.

      • Not really. They said they localize Valhalla Knights because people buy the games. XSEED doesn’t localize every MAQL game. They only get first dibs if they want.

  • Nanaki

    Strangely, I’m okay with this.

  • Tsurugi

Xseed, please, Xseed, localize Medabots DUAL from Rocket Company for 3DS to USA!!! This game worth!!! Anyone will like just go on youtube and see a gameplay to understand what I’m talking, MEDABOTS DUAL: KABUTO and KUWAGATA versions!!

    • KnifeAndFork

      • Tsurugi

        Don’t laugh I’m serious =D

  • SolRevr

Darn. I was hoping for a least a patch to fix the loading times.

  • Balalaika

I couldn’t really get into Valhalla Knights 3, and Ive played Akiba’s Trip 2 and didn’t like it at all, Point of this comment is that I was wondering how will xseed make their money on these niche games in the west when there are so many costs in order to bring over the games and then the low profits for mediocre games.

    • ishyg

      You are one person. One.

That said, VK indeed is not a game most people would play, even in the niche circles.

      • shadowind

I would and as a person who’ve played games which most so-called gamers would call crap, I have no problems with games that have tiny flaws, and that’s one reason why I wanted to buy the Gold version in English!

        • ishyg

Well sadly only a few bought it for it to be neglected. I hope a localization comes down the road, but it really depends on the market.

  • chibidw

That’s pretty surprising considering Valhalla Knights is MarvelousAQL’s baby, and they seem to love making XSeed waste time localizing this little bundle of mediocrity.

    • Balalaika

Indeed, better resources could be used to aquire other games from Japan that would appeal to a wider Western market and Xseed would make more profits, become more popular and bring even more great games like Ys: Celceta.

    • JonathanisPrimus

Tom has given the impression that previous entries earned their keep, so it wasn’t something MAQL forced down upon XSEED.

      • Tatsuya1221

Other entries didn’t up the fanservice as much as VK3 (or most games for that matter, the fanservice i heard the game had disgusted me) did either, it’s actually the reason i didn’t buy it, and i doubt i’m alone.

        • SolRevr

Yeah, I’d prefer them not put perv stuff in RPGs either. Leave the perv crap in the wanker games, not in serious action RPGs.

          • Lucky Dan

Valhalla Knights is a serious game? You must be playing a different game from what I’m playing. VK is just a grindy trashfest with a slight edge on fanservice thanks to the armor in the game just they took it full throttle in this game. Refusing to get the game on fanservice is just weird especially with all 3 previous games you must grind 100 fucking hours into it to stand a chance of completing it on the true final boss and that’s if you don’t fall asleep from the constant boredom of loading screens into battle

          • Vash bane

loading screen was never a problem for me guess im just that patient (seriously i’m impatient lol)

          • SolRevr

Whether the tone of it is serious or wacky I’m just saying RPGs in general are not enhanced by adding creepy boob-touching mini-games. The other VK games I’ve played are ‘serious’ by my definition. They are serious hardcore action RPGs. Not the best, certainly, but the tone of those games is dark and they are gamers’ games.

I still bought the game and played it for a few hours until the load times got to me, but I couldn’t shake off the feeling that the ‘sexy time’ stuff was just gross.

          • Lucky Dan

I can see why they put it in after the 3 games and even this one requiring massive input of hours to complete the games. What sale pitch they could use besides “hey look you can play with some boobies”?

They couldn’t use you “Grow old and die 3 times like in Phantasy Star 3” cause that really does happen in this game after you completed it.

          • Kumiko Akimoto

Them adding it didn’t exactly dehance it either.

          • yo1234

100 hours due to grinding? Can’t xseed just tweek the game to make it easier. I mean, if sea can tweek pso2 then xseed should be allowed to make it easier.

  • Ren Yuumei

  • revenent hell

    Called it!
I pretty much assumed they wouldn’t do it from my gathering the original VK3 didn’t sell to standards to warrant localizing Gold, but that was my impression of things on the other hand im super stoked about Akiba’s Trip 2
    W00T and Woot

  • KingGunblader

Considering the nicest compliment I remember reading about this game was that “the combat was serviceable,” it’s not all that surprising, is it?

  • Sentsuizan_93

Between Akiba’s Trip and a lot of potential titles Xseed are/planning on bringing over, I think Xseed has got bigger fish to fry.

  • Zer0faith

    Said no one ever.

    • nonscpo

Nooo…I actually was looking fowards to VK3G, the only reason I skipped the original was because of the defects and load times; the definitive versions are the ones that fix adress and add to the game. Now I have to either buy the current one or import from Japan, guess ill have to skip this title :(

      • Lucky Dan

They wouldn’t of fixed it btw, just giving you false hopes that the game would run better

        • shadowind

Do you have any proof they haven’t fixed the loading times?

          • Lucky Dan

Well if they couldn’t manage the loading times on a USB stick in the first place I place no hope in them XD. IF it was a blu ray or an umd then it’s excused :)

      • Zer0faith

And those were the exact reasons why I loathed the game. They should have been in the original to begin with not in this.

  • mynameisdats

Good move XSEED. I lost hope with this game when they started selling the unlockable jobs. Just sold my copy.

    • MyBodyIsReady

That’s the reason I didn’t pick the game up in the sale. I thought maybe I could get some fun out of it despite the reviews (Like Ragnarok Odyssey) but I saw the BS DLC and thought screw that.

    • ThrayWalsh

I was actually looking forward to buying it and it’s a crying shame that I won’t be able to buy it, but never mind, I’ll be able to buy mediocre crap like Call of Shite instead!?! /sarcasm

    • shadowind

If you didn’t like the game, why buy it in the first place?

      • mynameisdats

I didn’t say that i didn’t like the game. The game was lots of fun for me. But when i discovered you cant unlock other class unless you buy them then thats when the game looked like shi*. They didnt say that.

  • Varnes

Sad really considering how much better this looks than the original, oh well got the original for $14 anyway

  • ifidontwhowill

Honestly I was going to get Valhalla Knights 3, but when I saw them announce gold there was no way I was going to get some base version when a newer upgraded version is coming. I’m guessing Valhalla Knights 3 sold pretty poorly here, probably in part because the game has questionable game play and also because of the new version. I would have definitely picked up Gold if it made it here, but oh well seems they decided against it. They should have just waited and gave us gold version.

    • revenent hell

The game is just super duper repetitive. Don’t get me wrong it is alright but it was just to easy to put down and not play in the face of better games.
I don’t mind grindy games but….it just becomes unfun and feels like its a worthless effort after an extended period of time.
Its not really good, its not really bad its just an overall ok game to play if there’s nothing “new” around or coming out to play.

      • Lucky Dan

Ok guys please read this if your gonna purchase the game.

I’m up to the second half of the game and trudging right through it so read this if you plan on purchasing this and it sounds right for you cause like the post above its super repetitive. Spoiler-free bar the abilities

Is the first half easier than the second half?
First half even though it difficult at first is a cake walk than the second half.

Can you complete the game without doing the mini-games? Yes if you want to take the 100 hour long route AND MASSIVELY PATIENT, as you need to power up your stats to the max. However you will miss out on 2 achievements and most of the enemies will nuke you with 1 or 2 spells with 100% knockback due to buffs. ALSO you have to be super duper lucky in getting the bunny girl card from one mob holed up right in the top of very very very last stage.

Is it recommended to play the boobie game to complete the game? Absolutely yes, if you don’t do this your cutting out half the job cards which are easier to get also you get a BUNNY GIRL CLASS WHICH IS THE ONLY CLASS WITH A DISPEL so if you are disgusted by boobie or feeling up games I suggest you not buy this as to cut your play time essentially in half you need a least one of these girls and doing all will make your life easier. NOTE: JOB CARDS are extremely rare even in my 50 hour play through I only received 2 from mobs across 7 characters you want to level, you need them to increase your stats rather quickly if you want to advance at a relative pace. There is also a quest that requires job cards if you want 100% completion rate on the quest side as well.

How come this game is so hard? Due to class change, you get 1 point per level to insert into stats and you can only class change at a certain area, meaning tons of backtracking and lots of loading screens. IF you don’t level up/class change constantly you can’t use your abilities also job cards don’t apply to all characters they only apply to the character your using them on. You also need to increase your stats to the max which is why I recommend to even doing the mini-game to grab the job cards so you don’t have to level every single class to lvl 99 to grab every single job point.

Is it recommended to have at least 1 male in your party and 1 female? Yes cause Males are the only class that can resurrect from memory as Shamans and Females can only be Amazon.

Do I enjoy this game? borderline was interesting at first and seemingly easier than 1&2 but that quickly change as the classes are very restrictive and most of the extra classes are necessary, its a great time waster unless your prepared to go for the long haul with this game and invest lots of hours I would recommend it for a timesink otherwise avoid like the plague.

    • nonscpo

Tell me about it I’m in the same boat, its always better to buy the definitive version of the game. Now none of us will get that chance :(

      • Learii

        ya me too

  • lordsofskulls

unlike most ;p commenters here i am kinda dis pointed. >.> Be what it may i still have found a spot for VK series in my heart. =) it appeals to certain few. and i enjoyed VK series alot. just got to get past first few hours of the game than real fun starts ;p but most people that pick up the game never get past it

    • Lucky Dan

correction got to get past the few 30 hours of the game before you enjoy it !!!

  • nonscpo

All the people that are rejoicing over this news please just stop, its never a good thing for a localization company to not break even or to announce that they won’t localize a title. Some of us actually were interested in VK3G, and we won’t get that option now.
P.S. Because I like to end on a positive note, I’m gratefully Xseed is bringing over Akibas trip; don’t really care for the localized name change though!

  • sharpshot909

Good, now bring over more “The Legend of Heroes” games.

  • Roll Caskett

Who cares !!! The game is garbage anyway. Go play Toukiden.

    • shadowind

I care, and so do a lot of others in this thread who we’re waiting to buy the Gold version like myself!

  • Ni ~Algidus~

No! Not “oh mai goldu” here ):

  • Vash bane

most ppl ive seen on other forums arnt really taking this serious and are still waiting to see if this will get localized.

  • Prinny Dood

I would have exploded if they had said” We don’t have any plans to localize shinovi versus” Close one dood!

  • AspockolypseNow

Frankly I’m amazed they even localized vanilla VK3. I played the first one and it was godawful. I can’t imagine the second one being any better.

  • Slickyslacker

That TV spot seriously was the coffin’s last nail on this one.

    • konsama

      • Slickyslacker

        “Varuharuu Knightsu Suree: Goruduu!”

  • Kornelious

Well, that stinks, but in accords to Akiba’s trip 2, “You’ve gotta break some eggs to make a pancake” :P

  • SyrusYuki

Well that is a bit sad I understand this isn’t the greatest game out there and its not perfect, but I feel each game got better I wasn’t a fan of 1 & 2 but Eldar Saga and 3 really grew on me. Oh well I guess I can just put more hours into 3 then.

  • Lemski07

    akibas’s trip

  • I think that recent advertisement turned them off.

  • HassanJamal

Well….now i feel bad for selling my vanilla VK3 :I

  • shadowind

What’s with all the hate for the damn game!?! I’m actually one of many who was wanted to buy the Gold version and I personally think it’s a crying shame that I won’t be able to buy it!

In any case, I never knew it was a crime to like a game with flaws like this one, and to want it get a release in English, and besides, I’d rather play games like this than crap like Call of Crap and Battleshite any day!

In any case, if Tom from XSeed is reading this, I want to say that if by some miracle you guys change your mind, I will definitely buy it on Day One even if it is download only for Europe! ^_^

    • kaotron

Have you ever play valhalla 1-2/3 for the psp/vita? Or the elder saga for the wii? The whole series was super horrendous.

Val3:gold is just DLC updates that’s blatantly trying to sell itself as a new game, so just be happy that 3 even got localized at all(if you happen to like this game for some reason…)

      • shadowind

I’ve played all of them, including Eldar Saga and I’ve actually enjoyed them, to be completely honest! ^_^
Yes, the series may have its faults, but there must be something about it that people like about the games if people like myself keep buying them, especially in Japan!

I am happy that the basic version got released, but in all honesty, I think it would have been a lot easier if XSeed had waited until Gold had come out and released that instead, after all, if Nintendo can release the updated version of Bravely Default in English, why couldn’t have XSeed done the same with Valhalla Knights 3 Gold?

        • kaotron

wow, you even liked elder saga, I seriously tried to play that game without popping a blood vessel. the game just seemed amateurish while it looked and played like a horribly designed mmo that was made by a bunch of kids that didnt know what they were doing.

I’m not usually very harsh on bad games but imo the many faults of the valhalla games heavily outweigh the few goods it does.

But To each his own I guess, I’m kinda surprised how much of a fanbase the val even has in the first place. and yeah, in that case I guess xseed could have waited a bit for the beta version of val3 to come out.

  • ekibyougami

    > mfw

I dislike the “paid expansion-like-but-it’s actually-a-new-game” Cashcom move that most developers pull off to milk an existing or new franchise, but I have to be honest, VK3 “Gorudo” got me interested (because that CM nailed it and I’ll be remembering it for a long, long time. lol). Let’s not forget XSEED will bring over RO ACE, then “expanded” version of Ragnarok Odyssey, so they must’ve been upset VK3 will get a Gold expansion as well.

But at least this could give an impression that western publishers are tired of this Cashcom stunt that is currently trending in a lot franchises now.

    • kaotron

Yep, they’re now pulling of the “Capcom:super SF Turbo Ultra edition” move.

For small things like weather effects and “new classes” this should just be an update dlc but I guess they really need the money…

the valhalla series sucks anyways, I seriously dont know how it managed to become a trilogy.

  • Kumiko Akimoto

They can bring over ragnarok’s shameless update but they can’t bring over this? What?

    • Sylveria Shini

Indeed.. Xseed’s decisions as of late are really turning me off to them.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

What I find interesting about the people who look down on this game for the sexual content is that they are 8 out of 10 times the same people that rejoice for Senran Kagura and Akibara’s trip’s localization. Oh the double standard~.

All that said, a shame. VK3 wasn’t a great game but it was decent for a guilty pleasure~.

    • leingod

Personally, the sexual content was the only thing about the game that appealed to me… since I had played the previous games (and they were pretty crappy), but that wasn’t enough to warrant a purchase :P

  • Yan Zhao

Sucks for the people expecting this but I’m not surprised. The series wasnt that great to begin with.

  • هاكو ممممممممم

good because i wouldnt even bother buying it after being slapped over my face with the original one, i really wouldn’t recommend anyone buying that shallow thing that they call it a ( game )

  • leingod

That’s cool with me. I’d rather have the way-better-looking Akiba’s Trip any time of the day. And I don’t mean just graphics, it just looks more fun and interesting.

Now, I’ll keep hoping for a Shinovi Versus announcement…

  • Rolling Guy

    I wish they’d just make this as a DLC/Add-on. :/
