Puzzle & Dragon Crosses 3 Million In North America

Gung Ho Online Entertainment let us know that Puzzle & Dragons has now surpassed the 3 million download mark. At the same time, they’ve also set up a Puzzle and Dragons collaboration with Freddie Wong, a man with pretty good street cred for awesome video game-related shorts, such as a memorable Battlefield 3 commercial.

Remember kids, if a strange slime begins following you, say no. The video stars Freddie himself exploring a cave in search of treasure… In other news, I want that GPS. I mean, how does that even work in a cave?

Puzzle and Dragons is available on iOS and Android now.

They should rename it to Puzzle and Waifus already.

I think I like Gung Ho. See, there’s this whole narrative about the conflict between the mobile market and the dedicated console market (to clarify, portable game systems count as dedicated consoles). Mobile is killing video games as we know them, etc etc. But when Gung Ho became the king of the Japanese mobile game world they chose to integrate with the existing market. They keep releasing video game and anime crossovers, they made a successful 3DS RPG out of their big brand, and here they’re doing a marketing thing with Freddie Wong.

Freddie Wong reaches a particular audience… a core gaming audience.

Basically, Puzzle and Dragon is an awesome model for how mobile and traditional video game platforms can coexist and even enhance one another. The same game can be released in different forms that make sense on different platforms.

Remember when Capcom was talking about releasing mobile games as a test bed for new IP and then growing the successful ones through other channels? There was a lot of skepticism about that, but if they can make it look like this then I think that’s fantastic.

Yeah but that could just them be lazy so they don’t take any risk and waste as much money and just make something simple with barely any worry. To be fair, that’s fine if they want to do that, its not a bad idea but could led to bad practices.
Gung Ho has done a good example of Mobile gaming that really is just a simple little game that could be on anything gaming system which why it works, but there are many poor examples of mobile gaming. From Lazy to down right bad (oh and the micro transactions)….in all not everyone is doing the same but we got a few to work out with just like usually gaming
