Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Shares A Glimpse Of Its Multiplayer Mode

By Sato . March 14, 2014 . 2:32pm

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will offer plenty of things for you to do as a solo player like Kirito, such as going on dates and more dates, one of the main parts of it will be the multiplayer action where you’ll be exploring the floors of Aincrad with your friends. The official website shows us more on the game.

When you dive into the game’s multiplayer mode, you’ll be able to form a party of four players. Each player will also get to take their partners along, so that’ll make it a party of eight in total.

Considering how you’ll probably encounter some tough foes, you might need all the help you can get while exploring dungeons. In addition to looks, you’ll also be able to set your partner’s AI, which will surely come in handy for these fights.

Since you can take along partners, that means you’ll also be able to take any of the heroine characters, as well—so yes, you’ll also be able to take Asuna in her wedding dress to some multiplayer action for your honeymoon. Isn’t that romantic?

Those of you who’d rather play without being bothered by other players can also join multiplayer with a group of partners; however, that’ll limit you to a total of five players.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will features different kinds of fields you’ll be exploring in Aincrad, where you’ll be finding monsters and other things to discover.

Here’s a look at some of the areas:

The console shown in the above image is located in a mysterious area, and it’s where you’ll be traveling to the different areas. This is where you’ll also be connecting to multiplayer sessions of the game.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be released in Japan on April 24, 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

Im actually kinda excited for this game, it looks a little different than a typical mon hun game. I honestly liked the anime fairly well and Id like to play this and want to see the new season of SAO

    • God

I honestly disliked the last 3/4 of the anime, and the novel was quite the meh (for some reason i liked the second one), but the concept has a lot of potential, and the gameplay in this looks like it’s gonna be awesome.

      • Firion Hope

I disliked the last half as well but it’s for a different reason than most SPOILERS!!:

I think most people were like OH MY GOSH FICTIONAL INCEST 0/10!!! EWW!! Which I think is a pretty dumb reason to dislike something, but w/e. The real thing I disliked was that Kiritos cousin who was quite possibly the best developed character in the whole show never gets a proper ending. Its basically just #dealwithit, and they set it up like shell end up with that annoying character with the glasses or something. I would’ve rathered Asuna died and Kirito had to deal with that, would’ve been a lot more interesting imo

Anyway I agree that the gameplay of this looks awesome, hoping for a localization and hoping they announce a solid date for season 3 soon

        • Land of Green Pasture

now, come to think of it… does Asuna has important role in the part 3++?

          • DyLaN

She is the POV character in Mother Rosario but I’m not sure abt Alicization.

        • Shippoyasha

A lot of criticism about the characters not having a fuller ending or featured enough (like Asuna) is likely because the story is a longer serial than people are used to, where entire anime shows usually end at the 12th episode or 24th (end of second season).

I’m sure when SAO gets 4 or 5 total seasons, then all those characters will get more screen time. Though they will have to contend with screen time from newer characters and even more new potential romantic interests.

          • Firion Hope

Yeah thats true, its kinda got the AOT thing going on where its scheduled to go on for quite a while, so its not surprising everything doesn’t wrap up nicely

  • DarkLight

    Localzation pls?

    • nonscpo

      I second that motion :)

    • Saphiren

      I secon-
      *looks at BAMCO*

      • Kaien

BAMCO will bring it in USA/EU after the japanese release.

        For PSV/PS3/3DS/WiiU.

        • Saphiren

        • Captain Levi

          And GameBoy Color.

          • xavier axol

insider sources tells me that it will be the better version, expect better graphics and frame rate. :P

          • Renaldi Saputra

            Wonderswan too

          • And Game Gear!

        • Fastchrone

          don’t forget iPhone and Android

          • An Tran

Don’t be knocking smartphones now, they have more than enough power to render better graphics than the Vita.

        • Renaldi Saputra

it’s not One Piece or another major shounen series

          • Kaien

            It was a joke.

However, I think that SAO is bigger than Miku in US / EU. But unfortunately we are talking about BAMCO.

          • Renaldi Saputra

nope, it’s not bigger than vocaloid..
and SAO is only big on its own fanbase or anime only fanbase.. miku is popular even outside anime fanbase

          • Kaien

Uhm… you’re right, but an (anime) action game could be bigger than a rhythm one on PS3 and even on 3DS in USA/EU. SAO in mainstream on the web. Obviusly One Piece is way bigger; and BAMCO is BAMCO.

          • An Tran

Pretty sure the 3DS would explode if it tried to play this.

  • cyberkinghardy

can’t wait to get my hands on Asu…this game. My hands are itching….NOT. haha I’ve got J-stars and Project Diva to keep me busy for awhile until this game releases :))))

    • God

      Damn you japanese speaker!!

  • BlackStar

This game will not make it state side, if it does it will tank hard, its too new and not popular enough to make money, also the gameplay is lacking action, the anime was amazing in that department, also, I doubt it will release on anything other that the Vita, maybe PS4, but Im sure Sony wants to keep it exclusive as much as possible

  • David García Abril

I’m starting to think this game could be better than the anime…

Albeit that’s mostly because the ALFheim arc takes sooooooo many points away from the show… But also because the game looks damn awesome!

    • God

Let’s face it, only the 1/4 of the anime was good… ALFheim sucked, and dat deus ex machina at the end of SAO was pretty crappy…

      • David García Abril

I didn’t have much problem with the ending of the SAO arc.

Yeah, it could had been easily avoidable (they only needed to make Kirito counter strike when he had like 1 HP left, instead of when he was desintegrating) but there have been tons of cases in anime that have been way worse (I’m looking at you, Ichigo Kurosaki!).

Plus, we have to keep in mind the whole “Yamato Damashii” ideal, which this kind of plot move usually comes from.

        • God

I was talking more about the Deus Ex Machine explained with “the power of love”… now you reminded me there is double crapiness… i mean they are in a game, a world controlled by the system, unless the creator himself left a small probability for people to be able to defy it, in wich case it’s simply senseless for it to happen twice in a row… And the fact that Kirito using killed a guy using heavy armor with a weak thrust, not a sword skill, a weak thrust that he made while impaled and desintegrating… I don’t mind Deus Ex Machinas when pulled masterfully, but sadly, that hardly ever happens on today’s writing…

  • cyberkinghardy

Does this mean we can’t beat a higher level boss if we don’t go online?

    • Bigabu Beaze

      I hope not!

  • Prinny Dood

I so want this game like now dood!

  • tubers

    “Set Partner AI”

I hope it’s at least half as featured of Dragon Age programmable AI.

  • Istillduno

Disliked the series and most of the books, but getting a PSO vibe from this, might end up picking it up if it gets a release over here.

    • Renaldi Saputra

it doesn’t look like PSO at all, just the screenshots will make you feel like that

  • natchu96

    “Isn’t that romantic?”

Frankly SAO is the first time I’ve actually asked myself “Is this a better love story than Twilight?”

  • tubers
  • This game sounds really fun, can’t wait to play it

  • Croix Zapp

this reminds me of freedom wars O_o
