Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Has A Little Bromance In It

By Sato . March 18, 2014 . 12:02am

With over 100 characters you can befriend in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, Kirito will have plenty of ladies to choose from to take on dungeons and going on dates. So, you might be wondering “what about the male characters?” Bandai Namco recently shared a bit on the subject.

During the “Dengeki Game Festival 2014” that took place over the weekend, Bandai Namco producer Yosuke Futami, Kirito voice actor Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, and others got together to talk about the upcoming PlayStation Vita title.

After showing a live stream of gameplay footage, featuring Kirito taking on monsters with Philia, and then walking around town holding Asuna’s hands and then carrying her in his arms. They also showed a look at some pillow talk with the Beast Tamer Silica.

“You’ll also be able to hold hands and more with male characters,” revealed Bandai Namco producer Futami during the session.

“A manly friendship!” he exclaimed. While we don’t know what are the other things you’ll be able to do as part of the Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment bromance, Bandai Namco will be sharing more on that in the near future.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be released on April 24, 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

Can you carry him around town in your arms?

    “Oh, you’re so strong, Kiritio-san~!”

    • SeptimusHeap

So this game offers het and yaoi romance but no yuri? Pathetic, just like Exstetra. No thanks, I’ll stick with Noire and her superior game.

      • Narrator 1

To be fair, it’s kind of hard to do a “yuri” romance when the main playable character is a dude, unless you want to, like, cut away to Liz and Silica having a little fun time or something.

  • So is there a bed CG for Klein too?

    • Göran Isacson

I support this feature. Unlikely to happen, but it would be a sight of beauty if it did. Think Kirito would want him to shave first tho… or maybe he’d turn out to like stubble, no judging here.

      • i think kirito likes his little beard. lol.

  • dahuuuundge

    Homies over hos

    • Kyle Wakeling

Hahaha! That’s Gangstalicious, if I do say so myself.

    • RichyGaming

      Bros before hoes

  • Nitraion

“Harem art online: All flag is ok, you never feel hollow”

  • I-e-on

“Hey Kirito you wanna sleep together? No homo!! Just bro stuff.”

  • new_tradition

Since you can customize Kirito and now gender barriers are loosened at least when it comes to relationships, I feel like he could’ve just been a blank character or something. Leave it to the player to choose their avatar. Kirito himself could’ve just been another character in the game.

    • Wait, I can make a Kirito a girl?

    • Renaldi Saputra

      IIRC you can’t change gender

      • Raltrios

You can for your multiplayer avatar, but I’m not certain about the story.

        • Renaldi Saputra

yes but not for your avatar

    • Firekitty

I’m torn between thinking it’s too bad you can’t turn Kirito into Kiriko, because yuri fans deserve their fun, too, and being glad that you can’t, because they might gender-restrict some interactions then (as light as I’m sure any yaoi fanservice will actually be, that’s better than NONE).

  • Byron Kerrison II

I guess Cybering is his kink.

  • Renaldi Saputra

I see what u did there

  • C_Diamond

    Would bro.

  • Zer0faith

Always good to have something for the ladies.
    Klein route confirmed.

  • Better be optional

  • lett303

if only we can make kirito a girl

  • dark-kyon

this must be the most otaku pandering game what namco bandai has done in playstation consoles and maybe the best anime based rpg,is gonna be so hard to bring this game to the west without cut so many thing what namco is adding to please to otaku fans of swort art online.

    • Firekitty

I’d wager the Western SAO fandom isn’t large enough to make actually localizing the game profitable(translation, dubbing, actually printing copies, to say nothing of convincing Sony to let it release at all)…but on the other hand, the Vita is region free, so releasing it in Japan with an English text option could well generate enough foreign sales to be worth it.

  • Nickie

And the chance on localization on this is now in the lower half of the ‘slim to none’ category.

    • Firekitty

: I wish I could disagree, but you’re not wrong.

It’s kinda funny how much yelling there is in the media about ‘LGBT rights issues’, but when it comes to actually releasing stuff with options like that here, it’s either remove it or don’t localize at all…

  • Skeptika Crediblus

I hate that term. Can we get rid of bromance and foodie, now?

  • nonscpo

  • Yan Zhao

    Silica in bed CG confirmed!

  • Neppygear

I’m all for more… “male bonding” in games.

  • MitsukiIX

just what i wanted thank you sao.
