A Handy Chart Of Everything That’s In Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends

Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends is coming to PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita this month, and Tecmo Koei have shared a handy chart of everything you’ll find within the game on each platform. Click the chart below to view it at full size.

Additionally, a new trailer for the game can be found below. Dynasty Warriors 8 XL will be available on March 25th in North America and April 4th in Europe. Further details of its release can be found here. In Japan, the game is also seeing a PC release, but this hasn’t been confirmed for North America and Europe yet.

Frankly I’m torn now. I’m a diehard DW fan, and was going to get the complete edition on PS4 no question. But a PC release… that’s awfully tempting, and I like having as much of my game library PC-based as possible.

    • Tinye

I haven’t played a DW since PS1 and I’m thinking of picking this up. Have any bullet points you can sell me on? because I’m not sure if I want to pick this game up.

      • Jungo

This has the most complete character set of all of them (not true of 6 or 7, which had less characters than 5), a good combat system with new tricks and no dumb shenanigans (like Renbu in 6), lots and lots of weapons, and great graphics. It also has an expanded storyline (finally including the rise of the Jin dynasty).
It depends what you like out of it, but DW8: Complete is the latest incremental release, and has no real negative aspects to it. It’s a great jumping back in point.

        • Zerreth

To add onto what Jungo said. The story modes are also now two player co-op, though you’ll see a double of the second player as AI.

There are also some negatives in my opinion. Due to the way you’re able to unlock hypothetical scenarios in story mode, the actual story telling itself seems to have been somewhat toned down compared to 7. There isn’t a narrator before every fight (just scrolling text), and before where 7 had a more objective based feel to each battle in story mode, 8 plays out closer to an older style of dynasty warriors with super massive maps and clearing “side objectives” along the way to taking out the commander. It’s different, they both have their own styles.

P.S. I liked renbu, and the grab system in 6. It needed polish, but it fixed the infinite blocking mess that came in all the games before it including orochi…..Also, xiaoqiao’s level 3 fan spin was hilarious with the range buff.

          • Jungo

I digged the grab system, but Renbu just fed into the overall reduction of neat combos in my book. I’ll agree that the story telling is toned down from 7, one thing that’s not as obvious if you’ve played too many of the games and know most of the story by heart.

          • Tinye

I have a list of preorderd games to get through but it sounds like I should pick this up once I get bored of my current stuff. Thanks for the help :D

        • Rayhan PromisedGallery

to add, the only real minus from DW7&8 is that the AI is more dumb than PS2 era DW games

  • VietKnight

So far found out there is a preorder bonus dlc outfit for this from GS
“Pre-order Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends (PS3) or Dynasty Warriors
8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition (PS4 or Vita) and get an exclusive
set of Mandarin Gowns for 5 female Warriors (5 gowns total, one for each
character): Guan Yinping, Xingcai, Sun Shangxiang, Bao Sanniang, and
    Diao Chan!”

    • Niloc

Won’t they most likely be made dlc later on? Shame there aren’t the collaboration costumes.

      • Gekokujou

For the Japanese version, yes. But from what I recall the localized version doesn’t make pre-order bonuses available later down the track. If I’m mistakened, you need to show me.

    • Gekokujou

But where is my Rorona costume? T.T

  • AlteisenX

I’ve heard the vita version lags pretty bad, but I own Dynasty Warriors Next and it doesn’t really lag much… Hope its just someone over exaggerating, because the online co-op interests me.

    • SolRevr

I am also interested in the Vita version, but if it has terrible framerate then I’ll just wait until I get a PS4. I hope they have fixed it on Vita though because I like supporting developer efforts on the handhelds.

    • Aquarius

Don’t worry about it. The japanese version got a patch that fixed most of the framedrops.

      • I”ll trust it then. I rather get this version over the others.

      • leingod

Hope that’s the case. I preordered the Vita version mainly because NEXT ran so smoothly and beautifully. I thought they’d build 8XL on that!

    • Rayhan PromisedGallery

that’s because DW Next is actually made for Vita. Vita version of this game is just port from PS3 version of the game. And Koei’s downgrade-port has always been not that good

    • Aquarius

Heres a video for the people that are concerned with the PS Vita version having framedrops. The uploader even compares the framerate pre and post- patch.

What I fear (well, not really) is that the game will launch without the patch, and the game will be avoided by potential buyers. Which is quite honestly, the most likely scenario unfortunately.

  • sunK1D

So for the PS4 version, do you get DW8 and DW8:XL standalone like 2 separate games or you select the version you want from the start menu? something like that?

    • zac za

its all one game for ps4 no version but trophies are xtreme legends , i have Japanese version

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

The PS4 version is awesome but I wonder how the PS Vita version is like compared to the PS3.

  • Jesse Torres

Why does the Ps3 version get a basic version and the vita/ps4 get the xl? Yet the three are coming out on the same day, am I missing something?

  • Veedot

So what if i get the ps3 version without having played the vanilla version, i don’t want to rent/buy a game just for a save file

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

Well you don’t need a save file, but you need the previous game to mixjoy, in which case, you are shit out of luck and just have 8XL’s content.

  • darke

That looks like a chart from a Kickstarter campaign. :? Complex much?

    • Vash bane

ikr? as someone new to DW8 i’m knida confused on this

  • So…. How can I get a save file from DW8 to transfer to DW8XL…. I would love the 88 scenarios, but to have the previous game just to unlock it…

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

You need the previous game. Your save transfer automatically as long as you have a save.

  • Göran Isacson

I’ve heard the PC-version is a port of the PS3 version… kinda hope that if they release it for Steam, we’ll get the PS4 version and all the extra features therein.

  • Testsubject909

I believe there’s one feature missing from this article.

If I recall correctly. There’ll be an update for the PS3 DW8 Vanilla, so that you can upload your save file to a server and have that save converted to your PS4 or Vita DW8XLC(omplete)E(dition) copy.

Though I will have to double check later to see if it’s directly from the DW8 Vanilla to the online server or if it has to be DW8 to DW8XL to the online server.

Edit: Aaayup. If this is correct. Then it’s all good for me.

  • Vash bane

wait I only played up to 6 and stopped playing the series so let me get this straight this mixjoy I’ve been told about is to play between original and extreme version? so that means disk swapping? so original no lv99 but in extreme lv99….how does that work XD? if lv99 on extreme then go back to original then lv reset back to original limit?

so just buy the ps4/psv version lol?
