Mind Zero puts players in the shoes of Kei, a regular high school student who suddenly gains the power of a MIND. These entities bestow Kei and other high school kids with powers, but now the government is chasing after them. Siliconera tried the English version of Mind Zero and you can check out our impressions here.

Mind Zero is made by Acquire and ZeroDiv, the developers of Class of Heroes. Aksys will release the English version on May 27 in stores and as a download for PlayStation Vita. Europe will get the game on May 28 as a digital release.

Full ver of the OP song.

The OST done by ZIZZ Studio is pretty good too. Sad tht there hardly any preview/upload of it on9.

    • Himegami Aisa

      And I couldn’t help but think of xkcd.com/37 :P

  • 3PointDecoupage

Wow. Persona got so popular, now it even has its own gobots.

  • Son of a Smooosh

Another digital-only release for europe? :V
I mean I’m glad that we are getting more games like this, but it doesn’t make a difference for me personally since I really prefer having hardcopies of my games, which means I’ll import anyway..

    • Deademon

I was thinking of doing the same , but will this game have DLC ?? Because I don’t want to miss extra content ….. unless its bikini costume

  • DyLaN

I was expecting Aksys to translate those wall of terms/texts in the OP like wht they did to VLR one :V

Interestingly, Aksys went for “Front” and “Reverse” for 表/里. Personally I will go for “Surface” and “Hidden” but eh, maybe it make sense in the context of the game?

Ho boy this game. When it was announced some time ago I was excited when I read the premise and saw the art. After seeing the opening I became even more hyped. The art, premise, and music were all to my liking. But I told myself not to get excited because it may not leave Japan. Still, I was curious on the gameplay. And eventually I saw some. But what I witnessed was one of the most awkwardly paced battles I’ve ever seen in any rpg. I couldn’t bring myself to watch the entire video. I know I’m not alone when I saw all I could ask myself is wtf am I watching. My expectations were shot. After this I saw story/dialogue scenes and my expectation were once again OHKO’d. The characters pretty much had one still art no matter what was going on. It looked like a low budget PSP game…. on the Vita. The battle sounds seemed extremely off, the character models borderline looked nothing like the art I liked, battle animations were laughable, etc. It doesn’t look professional at all. I can understand Acquire may have been on a budget but… wow. And now it’s being localized. Which I wasn’t expecting in the least once I saw the gameplay. I’m killed from wanting to play the game but I’m sure other still do. This is definitively not Acquire’s first game also. Despite them being a very small company how could they let gameplay of this quality be greenlit. Game was an extreme letdown for me.

    • DyLaN

While I don’t have a lot to say abt its quality ( but then again, this IS Acquire and not every dev have SE level of budget ), I recalled tht there are quite a bit of variation in the dialogue spirites instead of the good ol “cropping the character art + edit the facial expression” shtick.

    • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

How can a game you didn’t play be an extreme letdown? A youtube video doesn’t amount to true impressions. Either you played the game or you didn’t~.

      • Bobby Jennings

He was letdown simply by the videos. It is possible for this to happen.

    • darke

The highest resolution version of Titanfall looks like shit on a PC as well compared to other PC FPSes; but apparently it has good gameplay. (I wouldn’t know, it’s a console shooter and I don’t play those.)

Given the number of complaints every time a JRPG is reviewed by a major gaming site and it gets a ‘bad’ score, you’d think commenters here would be a little more discerning then saying the game is bad simply from watching a short video. :?

    • Izzeltrioum

You know, as this being a new IP, it is to be expected. It’s an experimental, yet useful business model. Remember Uncharted 1? How incredibly BORING with no charisma or even life it was/felt? What happened next? Yes, Uncharted 2–GOTY everywhere. Supporters made it happen.

If this not flops (I totally doubt it. All this persona references users been shooting all time this game pops up is a good advertising technique), a sequel or spiritual successor (Same franchise; different setting, world, characters, etc) is likely to occur–Be it enhanced with a superior battle system and good character animations to mention some.

And let’s not forget this is a VITA exclusive; a handheld that’s still struggling to make good income. It would be stupid for them to invest shitton of money with something that’s 50% MIGHT bomb vs 50% MIGHT NOT bomb.

Carry on and let’s inflate their budget-cap already.

PD: There’s a gameplay video about this game that’s 33s-lenght. You can clearly notice the low quality it was uploaded. I’m sure it resembles nothing about SFX quality Mind Zero has.

  • pimpalicious

I’m kinda on the fence about this game but I think I’ll go ahead and buy it to support JRPGs on the Vita. With this, Conception 2, and Demon Gaze my Vita will be pretty busy.

  • Qunton C.

Why do companies keep releasing the OPs for Japanese games and call them trailers with a straight face? All thia video showed me was some 2D art, character names and that’s really it. No gameplay at all.

    • DyLaN

It does have a few second of dungeon crawling and overworld gameplay :P

Its mainly for hyping purpose I think.

  • Hentailover

Am I only one getting vibes of Persona from this? Well, more, persona 3 and 4, but still…

    • Harmonic

One of the articles on here said that it plays like p3p, so you’re not the only one. I still plan on getting this though even with the persona feel.

  • Kornelious

Huh, so Amazon’s placeholder date was right for once, glad I had it pre-ordered then…..And also, A scythe weilding MALE protagonist…this just got interesting :)

  • http://resettears.wordpress.com/ Reset Tears

Really like that OP song… The character art has some good designs too. Will keep watching this one.

[edit: just noticed someone else put up the link for the full song...eh nvm]

Welp, another May game I’ll be getting. Gonna be so broke this year lol

    • Milewide

      Game responsibly.

    • Ric Vazquez

      Same here LOL

  • Bobby Jennings

The game’s not my cup of tea, but when I first saw the characters, I was like jesus this game might be good!

I just don’t like the combat much.

  • Izzeltrioum

    Unleashed… that sounds sexy.

The more I read about this game, the more my wallet gets whipslashed.

  • Nagi

well….i like it and all, plot is persona inspired and the dungeon style is also like it but the combat looks hard and unique more realistic that they rely on their MIND’S but the battle scenarios look meh for me :/ devil survivor did it better even though the battle scene only shows animations

  • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

I’ll wait till it goes on sale on PSN as I didnt think the Japanese version was great, so I’ll give it another go if its going cheap
