Update: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS will come out first and is scheduled for release this summer. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is scheduled for a winter 2014 release.

There’s been a lot of talk about the Super Smash Bros. series with recent rumors and a special Nintendo Direct presentation which will be airing tomorrow at 6 pm ET/3 pm PT. The official Japanese Super Smash Bros. Twitter account says that they won’t reveal a release date for the 3DS/Wii U Super Smash Bros., yet.

The tweet reads:

“[Notice] We are currently not at a stage where we can announce a concrete release date; however, in tomorrow’s broadcast, we will be revealing a rough release window.”

Fans of the series may have been expecting a release date reveal as one of the big announcements in tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct, but now that won’t happen. What surprises do you think Nintendo will announce in just a few hours?

Why do i feel a 2015 release date incoming?

    • 3PointDecoupage

I feel it too. Excuse me while I scream into a pillow.

      • http://momentsreprieve.com/index/ Aushria

Even though Sakurai himself said three weeks ago that it is still coming out this year?

        Have you no faith?

        • Qunton C.

And Reggie said during the E3 07 press conference that Brawl would be out “not next year, not next spring, but on Dec 3, 2007″

And then Brawl launched March 9, 2008. Or in other words “next year. Next spring to be exact.”

          • PreyMantis

I would rather trust the guy making the game than just a PR guy…

          • Qunton C.

You seriously think Sakurai didnt have to give the okay for Reggie to say that?

    • yomachaser

If they really do that the wii u goes in the closet.

  • 3PointDecoupage

Namco needs a Falcon Punch to the face.

    • TalesOfBS

Not just one, they deserve many, but not because of SB since this time it is entirely Nintendo’s fault.

  • Ooh Bee

    This is getting annoying now.

  • Bobby Jennings

    2015. After they said 2014.

    Pssh.

    • John Diamond

      it hasnt been delayed yet…

    • EX+

Well, I’m no Wii U enthusiast (don’t own it and IF thi game and X don’t come out this year, I’m not buying one until next year), but I say we wait until they announce the release window.

      • Bobby Jennings

        Oh, of course.

I’m just joking. But if they do..

  • KnifeAndFork

    Delayed to 2015

  • malek86

Yeah, this is sounding more and more like 2015.

(notice they might also say “winter 2014″, which would actually be 2015 while not sounding as bad)

  • https://twitter.com/Onyzora Ony

I internally giggle because it pisses so many fans.

    I’m patient so I don’t care~

    • raymk

Most don’t care, Mario kart is a bigger title anyway and it releases not long from now.

    • subsamuel01

As a Nintendo fan I really don’t mind, I don’t want a rushed game just to meet a date, but I imagine that investors will not be happy especially since Iwata promised them the game will come out in 2014. A Smash Bros and Mario Kart Holiday Bundle would sell a ton this year. From a business standpoint the game needs to come out this year.

  • hazelnut1112

The release window will be “sometime in 2014″.

    • Haganeren

      or worse “sometime in 2015″

  • MrJechgo

Oh come on people, how many times did Brawl get delayed? You guys should be used to delays by now.

    • TalesOfBS

The Wii was doing good, they could have delayed it as much as they wanted.
      Now they can’t.

  • Mαdασ「マダオ」

    This..

  • Josephl64

moved up to May…(in my dreams)

  • powerprotoman

this could litteraly be “summer 2014″ or “fall 2014″ or “winter 2014″ and in a worse case scenario “spring 2015″

  • Tonton Ramos

Announce the 4 or 5 new or returning characters do it! We don’t have any characters announcements in March now is the time! No 50 character roster slot? pffft I don’t believe so… 3DS and WiiU can handle that power.

  • SirRichard

Sounds like that 2015 release window from yesterday is true after all, which is pretty concerning for Nintendo’s lineup this year, and also aggravating because I was hoping for it this year. Could still not be the case, sure, but better not to get my hopes up.

I wonder what they will show, then? At least one new character is somewhat guaranteed, I think, and probably some veterans. Maybe some talk on the 3DS-Wii U connectivity?

  • anthony apduhan

I guess they are saving the release date announcement for E3 2014…

  • xPhoenixMoon

-_- Oh well at least it isn’t a PSO 2 situation.

  • Shadowman

Welp, there’s my Summer 2014 release date shot down by one tweet

    • powerprotoman

how? last i check that was a rough release window

      • Shadowman

It could be my prediction of July the 4th or somewhere in Summer or Fall

        • powerprotoman

well the tweet said no *FULL* date(day/month/year) but a season or quarter of the year is not out of question

  • Kayriss Wins

Hey man, as long as they announce the Earthbound boys I’m happy with whatever date they give me… so long as it’s not 5 years down the road.

  • Zer0faith

    I’m calling it.
Late fall/winter to sells those units.
It’s the release date Nintendo deserves(for max profit) but not the one we(consumers) need right now.

  • Zaig

“Rough” release window announcement = sometime between now and when it gets released

  • Krisi92

Goemon! Isaac! Paper Mario! Alex Roivas! Rhythm Girl!

  • SetzerGabbiani

2015 delay incoming. Too many signs pointing to that. Not that I mind personally.

  • bananaking123

2014 is a year of small releases, to prep for a 2015 mh4u, ssb, pokemon abc(or something) reveal

  • Hinataharem

    A quarter would be fine

  • Roderick Arce Fernandez

2015 thats all is going to be said today and offcourse please understand….

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Kevassa02 kevassa

Woah when did this community become so melodramatic? Maybe it’s my legitimate lack of interest of the game but most news article related to Smash I see the comment section exploding with negativity, wether it’s due to lack of news, Siliconera forgetting to post the daily image or being terrified about it getting delayed.

Or people complaining about confirmed Assist Trophies not being fighters.

Oh well, I don’t get it. Have fun! :)

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/BaoZakeruga BaoZakeruga

    2015 confirmed…

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Come you guys at Nintendo know you can’t afford to have it come out in 2015! You’re smarter than this! I UNDERSTAND it needs to come out this year or bust, Nintendo can’t survive with Mario Kart 8 from May to 2015. D:

    • NeptuniasBeard

Whoa! No need to get so dramatic. Sure, the game being delayed to next year would suck much ass, but it wouldn’t be the DEATH of a multi-billion $ company. You almost make it seem like if they aren’t releasing it this year, they may as well not even bother. That, is just plain disagreeable. Also who knows, Nintendo may just have other games to release this year besides Mario Kart.

    • Kaetsu

For all we know they could announce a Summer 2014 window and we could have the game sometime in July. I wouldn’t worry about it. Plus Sakurai said this direct “Will be worth the wait”.

  • Spirit Macardi

If they announce Klonoa as a character, then it won’t matter to me when it comes out; the hype alone will be able to sate me until then x3

    • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

      That would be fantastic!

    • Kaetsu

Nobody bought Klonoa on the Wii(except for me :P).

      • Spirit Macardi

Probably because Namco messed up some character names, got the worst actor possible to voice the lead character in English, proposed an awful redesign of the main character for the west, and (as usual) didn’t advertise it at all.

Regardless though, I bought it and I know a lot of other people who did as well.

  • http://twitter.com/puchixseda puchinri

You know. . . only because this has become an expensive year (just in gaming even), I wouldn’t mind waiting until next year. That’s not as far as it seems anymore. However, it would make a great Christmas present from Nintendo!

I personally want to see more characters right now. And they definitely could use more female fighters, so here’s to hoping~! x’D

  • The Watcher

Let’s give it some perspective. It COULD be worse, I mean take a look at FFXV’s journey over the past approximately 8 years.

  • http://gentlerobot.com/ Gentle Robot

Damn, I’ve never seen so much NintenDoom on this site before. It’s coming in November. Relax.

  • Niermyico

If it get delayed, whatever. MK8 will keep me entertained for a long while along other incoming games so it’s all good. May is gonna be crazy with MK8, Drakengard 3 and Watchdogs.

  • PreyMantis

    *Looks at the calendar*
    It’s still April.

  • Symbol de Au

Of course it’ll be delayed to 2015. Sakurai made a
New Years resolution to release it this year and no one ever keeps those.

  • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

It’s amazing how even Nintendo fans flip off tables and speculate like there’s no tomorrow. Nintendo can’t afford to launch the Wii U game on 2015, they know it better than anyone and they’ll have it this year. Give them some credit~.
