Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Details On Quests And Loot

By Sato . April 11, 2014 . 2:32pm

We previously got a glimpse of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragments multiplayer mode and some of the areas you’ll be checking out in the reborn Aincrad. Now, we have a closer look at missions and what other things you’ll be doing in the upcoming PlayStation Vita game.

As previously reported, the “Hollow Mission” are quests you’ll be taking on to acquire special skills, weapons, and more upon completion.

Before heading out to take on a Hollow Mission, you’ll be able to group up with your buddies and prepare for the quest. While doing this in the offline mode, you’ll be advancing through the story as you complete missions. In online mode, upon clearing the Hollow Mission, you’ll be sent back to the base.

The Material Gathering system is another special feature that you can take advantage of in the Hollow Area. By meeting certain conditions for various objectives, the game will grant you Hollow Points, which can then be used to acquire special skills and equipment.

This system will be of great help to the players, by providing powerful and useful items. There will also be some other special unlocks you can get by completing various lists.

While Aincrad does indeed have 100 floors, in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, you’ll be starting out from a town on the 76th floor, as you clear fields, dungeons, and bosses to work your way to the top.

However, there will be many powerful bosses that will require the proper preparations before taking on. You’ll be able to check out all kinds of information on the bosses before taking them on, so studying these monsters and their habits will be just as crucial as keeping your gear up to scratch.

Similar to the show and novel, there will also be a “Last Attack” feature. There will be certain weapons that can only be obtained by getting in the last hit on bosses, so you might also want to watch out for that, before a pesky NPC ends up stealing the glory!

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be released on April 24, 2014 in Japan for the PlayStation Vita.

I can only dream for this to be released in the West.

    • 오렌지

Or you can get the Taiwanese version, provided that everything is translated into English and not just the Menu and Names.

      • God

I for one can’t do that, how the hell do i get them to send it to heaven? And before you ask, no, it’s a higher plane of existence, it’s not something they can achieve by using a cannon.

        • TheExile285

          Lol

          • DyLaN

Role Playing is fun, isn’t it nya?

        • xavier axol

well, you can all ways send your child, if you have another one that is…..

          • God

I could try to get another earthling pregnant but that takes too damn long, and last time i took a physical form they locked me in an asylum for saing i was god… I don’t think Jesus is mentally ready for another trip to earth eiter, you know, he still has nightmares with crosses… Maybe i could get another deity pregnant, maybe i could simply create another deity and make him go get the game…

        • Firekitty

You don’t need to actually play the game…you’re omniscient, so you already know everything about the storyline and gameplay.

          • God

Yeah, let’s simply ignore the fact that i don’t have any power over any mortal species or their creations since i gave you free will…

          • Firekitty

            So you’re admitting you’re NOT all-knowing?

          • God

Not of YOUR plane of existence, what gave you the idea i was? I am God, a higher being, you know? That doesn’t make me inherently All-Knowing on inferior planes of existence, and it’s not like i care about your plane of existence either way…

          • Firekitty

So you’re saying that the people who teach YOUR religion are liars? Because they always claim that you’re omniscient and omnipotent….You should really get on them for slander.

          • God

I’ve tried, but those power hungry bastards at the Vatican don’t listen… not to mention it’s not really my religion, 99% of the crap they teach is made up, all i did was send my son to earth and wipe his memory as punishment for some destroying a plane of existence i was interested in.

        • Kornelious

Oh……..Of course a cannon is stupid (Pushes giant contraption back into garage) lol XD

      • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Yes, I heard about that and it is an alternative…if everything is translated.

    • Splinter

I think it will be released in the west, but Namco is taking too long to announce it. Since it will have English subs, there’s no point of missing an audience way bigger than Taiwan (Americas + Europe).

      • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Namco has been extremely slow with SAO games. I know money is always an issues, however, the popularity of the anime in the west should be a helpful indicator. NIS always gets me those obscure games…so I would love to see Namco bring this here.

        • Renaldi Saputra

bcos many ppl don’t have PSV
Bamco USA hates exclusive PS Vita games

          • decus

Yeah, I think a lot of Vita games are stuck in “maybe people in the west will prefer VitaTV once they bring that here” limbo. I know I’m never buying a Vita but would consider the TV version for $100. Just don’t like portables very much since if I’m anywhere to be using a portable I wouldn’t be playing video games.

          • Renaldi Saputra

but mostly PS Vita games are multi-platform with PS3, and they prefer PS3

    • Renaldi Saputra

      in english? yes
      in the west? no

  • Manny Being Manny

Was it ever confirmed if the Taiwan version actually has English subs or if its just the menus?

    • TheExile285

The Namco website said subtitled menus and dialog.

      • Balalaika

Im still skeptical about how much of the menus, story text, and dialog will be translated. There are a handful of pictures online on the Namco Asia site but those were screenshots with limited English menus, really hoping more info comes out or actually video/gameplay with the english “subtitles”.

        • TheExile285

Well I’ll let people know after I get my copy.

          • xavier axol

please do, we’re counting on you.

          • Kornelious

I’m an SAO fanboy so i will be getting the Chinese version as well, So you can count on me Too! :D

          • xavier axol

well then, please give us as much info as possible. it will be greatly appreciated, so every little detail counts.

          • Balalaika

Sweet thanks Exile, I really want the game but money is kinda tight in my situation so it would suck if I can’t understand the game too well. Depending on what good things you or the other people who get the Asia version say I will have to give in and get a copy too.

        • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水樹 (MagatsuMizuki)

If you translate this you’ll see they mentioned menus
          http://www.namcobandaipartners.com.tw/news_detail.php?the_no=czoyOiI4MCI7

          • Balalaika

I read all the news I could about this being translated in English and check every other day (I have slow work days) so I’m really excited for this game but don’t want to have my hopes crushed and get a semi to little translated to English game.

          • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水樹 (MagatsuMizuki)

I’m sure the people who will be getting it can get screenshots

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水樹 (MagatsuMizuki)

Ya I translated this article and it mentioned menus and dialog
        http://www.namcobandaipartners.com.tw/news_detail.php?the_no=czoyOiI4MCI7

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水樹 (MagatsuMizuki)

This sounds like the perfect game for those who don’t have time to play MMOs

I’m still wondering about the online mode, is it going to be ad-hoc or infrastructure? Hopefully the later

  • Kornelious

The game is looking great, I wonder how many hours I will be able to log into this one X)

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 禍津水樹 (MagatsuMizuki)

Hopefully a lot but that depends on your play style

  • Pichu0102

So does dying delete your save, or allies dying delete them, or can you erase deaths with whatever the equivalent of lacrima is, ala Soul Sacrifice?

    • DyLaN

Infinity Moment just has you teleport to the latest save after dying, so I guess no.

  • TheSwordUser

    So, just to make sure.
This is the Vita port that some people all over asked for with plenty of added content? Just like Senran Kagura Burst containing 1st game and an extra campaign?

If so, time to wait for these screenshots with “english subtitles” from asian version.

    • DyLaN

Most likely its “2 games in 1″ judging by the director interview as he said HF and IM are different routes.

  • lordsofskulls

I am just kinda bumed out it wouldnt be from Floor 1. I think it would be a great adventure to have Sword Online Art… become 3 part game as a whole.

o.o and a full adventure from floor 1-100 from start to finish of the story.

    • DyLaN

Not enough budget. Too much work.

      But there always SAO Progressive.

  • http://hanzoadam.tumblr.com/ Hanzoadam

    I can’t wait for this.
