From Mystic Quest To Lighting Returns, The Spinoff Songs In Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call

By Spencer . April 17, 2014 . 3:18am

In addition to music from numbered Final Fantasy games, Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call has 63 tunes from Final Fantasy spinoffs. Released back in 1992, the first game to bear the Final Fantasy brand in both the West and Japan without being part of the core series was Final Fantasy Mystic Quest which was released in Japan as Final Fantasy USA. Both battle songs from Mystic Quest and Benjamin, the game’s protagonist, are in Curtain Call.

The next spinoff title was Final Fantasy Tactics which was released five years later and it took another six years for Final Fantasy X-2 to come out. Music from those games along with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, Dissidia 012, Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy are included in the game. Square Enix also confirmed two songs from the Romancing SaGa series for Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call, but so far those are the only non-Final Fantasy songs in the game.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy Curtain Call comes out on April 24 in Japan.

    The Price of Freedom please!

  • Laith Rem

Yeah, just bring it to America and I’ll buy it day one.

    • BlitzWhat

The stage is the cliff overlooking Midgar in the rain, I don’t think my heart can take it.

      • Laith Rem

The only way the could have made it worse is if they used “Why”

  • 하세요

Alright fine, I’ll pre-order it tonight, sheesh.

  • Ghoul_Aid

Departure is in, Eclipse is in, What Becomes of Us is in. Man, this has everything. You can bring it over now, guys.

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

    They acknowledge Crystal Chronicles! :D
My life is now complete. My favorite FF is CC. So happy.

  • Göran Isacson

Wonder if this game will have Crystal Bearer songs, I quite liked that games soundtrack.

  • Time Sage

Odd that for all their effort, the X2 AIrsip song uses X’s airship…

  • Jonah Paley

I hope they have even more songs in than these. My wish list for side-game songs that haven’t been announced (I’m restricting this list to battle songs for now):
Anything from Bravely Default. Anything. Conflict’s Chime? Yes, please. He of the Name? Yes, please. Fighting to the End? Yes, please. Evil Thing, Evil Battle, Evil Flight? Oh hell yes. Serpent Devouring the Ground? Yes please.
The Imperial Four from FF Dimensions, among other Dimensions themes
Strong Enemy from FF 4 Heroes of Light
Battle de Chocobo from FF Fables: Chocobo Tales
The Eidolons Shackled from FFIV: The After Years
Under the Stars, the Pervert, and Ultima the Perfect Body from FF Tactics
    Incarnation from FF Tactics Advance
Something from FF Tactics Advance 2 (I haven’t actually played it, though)
Ifrit and Grotesque Creature from Vagrant Story
    Peaceful Fighting from Type-0
Desperate Crisis from FFVII: Before Crisis
Those Who Accept the Protection of the Stars/The Planet Has Become My Guardian from FFVII: Crisis Core
The Promised Land from FFVII: Advent Children
Girl Named Shelke and The Immaculate from FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus
Eternity ~ Memory of Lightwaves from FFX-2
Giant’s Fist and Paradox from FFXIII-2
High Voltage and Divine Love from Lightning Returns

Of course, the chance of my wishes proving to be true is rather…minimal.

Here’s hoping they keep the Japanese 1000 words in if it gets a western release, I really prefer tha Koda Kumi version.

  • dragoon_slayer12

I want this so bad. I really hope it swings this way. I enjoyed the hell out of 1, but without dlc, there wasn’t much to it. This game is a perfect eShop title. Whether for hours on end playing or for just one track. I want SOOOOOO bad.

  • I am still a little bummed that it’s only the two songs from Mystic Quest and just Ben character-wise, apparently. I was hoping for at least Doom Castle and Phoebe as a character, too.

But then, it’s a bit of a miracle they acknowledged the game at all.

EDIT: Oh, and just to throw it out there to the wind: seeing Crisis Core on this set-list reminds me that CC isn’t on the PSN yet. And that is *bogus*.

  • Yan Zhao

Mystic Quest, my first FF game, and one of the best soundtrack in the series oddly enough.

  • Senka

At 9:30 in the video, what does the header say? Are they going to have a section just for remixes? It sounds like it.

  • Altumn

Hmm, Im glad they added crisis core, I actually like the soundtrack a lot.

  • Alphabet Soup

Love seeing Crisis Core and Mystic Quest. Looks like they’ve added quite a bit. If there’s one song I’d love to see get more attention, it’d be the song (I think it’s called) Dear Friend from Final Fantasy VII: Last Order. It’s the guitar piece that plays when Cloud and Zack are sitting in the truck. I think it might have been in Crisis Core as well, but it’s not the one in the video. Such a haunting song. Anyway, I may have to pick up Curtain Call, though I passed on the first one.
