By Ishaan . April 30, 2014 . 7:42am

This morning, Nintendo of America announced a Wii U hardware bundle for Mario Kart 8. The bundle will contain a Wii U Deluxe system, the game, a red Mario Wheel accessory and a red Wii Remote Plus controller. It will cost $329.99.

(A bundle for Europe is available as well, and you can read about it here.)

Additionally, in both North America and Europe, Nintendo have announced a special promotion for Mario Kart 8 that gets you a free digital game for buying the title and registering it with Club Nintendo.

If you buy Mario Kart 8 and register the game with Club Nintendo before July 31st, you’ll receive a free Nintendo eShop code for one of the following Wii U games:

North America: New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, New The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD or Wii U Party

Europe: New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, New The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Wii U Party, Sonic Lost World, Game & Wario, The Wonderful 101, Mario & Sonic at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics or Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate

The promotion applies to copies of Mario Kart 8 purchased both at retail or via the Nintendo eShop.

Ahhh, I’m happy for all you Wii U owners!

  • Sentsuizan_93

THAT’S IT! You swayed me Nintendo. I’ll be sure to get this when it drops~
Now then, my Wii U needs un-dusting….

  • The U.S. getting the short end of the stick.

    • JMaster3000

FEEL THE PAIN OF EUROPE or something said in these lines lol

      • Kaetsu

The pain of not having SMTIV?

        • Farid Belkacemi

          FINISH HIM… Now ! :D

        • JMaster3000

THE PAIN OF EVERYTHING ( Video games related )

        • Oh snap that 3rd degree burn.

        • Kamakuma

*Blows whistle* Off sides, penalty, red card, goal tending, flopping, technical foul, blue cheese, air ball, gorilla glue.

Dude your out of the league for 2 hours with that one. :’o

        • Hexodious

          Pretty much this.

    • XaviIniesta

The Euro countries in Scandinavia don’t even get any codes to register when they purchase Nintendo games/consoles. I happen to live in Sweden, so…. =/

  • ZnTxn

    Happy for all the potential buyers who live in USA and Canada ;_____;

  • DeadLineDance

Europe gets Wonderful 101 and we don’t?! BOGUS!

    • NeptuniasBeard

It would be a waste to use it on W101 in America. The game’s cheap as hell already

      • Barrylocke89

Geez, you’re right. That’s a shame, considering all the good I’ve heard about this game on GAF and elsewhere.

    • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

Wii U is dead in Europe, so Nintendo’s bringing the options.

    • Nicky Tetlow

Europe isn’t getting the snazzy Mario Wiimote.

  • Good plan. Pushing the WiiU should be a priority at the moment and nothing is too big of a deal to make that happen.

  • nonscpo

Now this is a really really really great Idea!

    • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

It’s fantastic. An attractive bundle at a decent price and a free game to boot for anyone who gets the game!

  • Göran Isacson

Neato. Now what I’m interested in knowing, is whether the free game offer is available to people who buy just the game and register it, or people who buy this console-package and then register?

    • Spirit Macardi

It’s apparently the game itself. You don’t need the bundle.

  • mojack411

Oh hell yes! I can finally get the Wind Waker HD!

  • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Well the U.S. list is super underwhelming. I have all of those except for the Wii U Party thing. Why does Europe get the best list in the world? Is it because Europe dislikes the Wii U (I’ve seen sales comparison between U.S.)?

    • AuraGuyChris

Maybe sales over there aren’t so hot.

    • XaviIniesta

Well, perhaps it has to do with those particular games selling differently in that region than the US. But some European countries don’t even get any codes to register when they buy Nintendo games/consoles. Which means that probably not as many people make use of these promos in Europe per bought product, compared to the US. So maybe Nintendo feel like they can add some extra since their ‘losses’ on these deals aren’t as big as in the US.

  • Freud_Hater

Oh man, if I had a Wii U, I’d be all over that :O

    • Kaetsu

Now’s your chance(for an all-out attack)! Get this new MK8 bundle. You won’t be disappointed.

  • Spirit Macardi

    Darn, I already have all those games XD;

I wonder if it’s possible to gift the free game to someone else?

    • HououinKyouma

“you’ll receive a free Nintendo eShop code for one of the following Wii U games”
if it’s a code, you can probably give it to someone else

    • VietKnight

You can always trade the physical copy of the game of the one you get the digital version of it.

  • This is a REALLY great deal!

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

In other words, everyone wins with Mario Kart 8 :)

  • XaviIniesta

Very nice. Only problem for me is that in Sweden you don’t get these codes to register when you buy a Nintendo game/console. And that’s because a company named Bergsala distributes Nintendo products in certain European countries, and for some inexplicable reason they don’t offer these promotions.

Perhaps I’ll try to order the game from the U.K. instead.

Does anyone know you’re allowed to make use of a U.K. Club Nintendo account to enter codes and receive promotion gifts like this one ,even if you don’t live in the country?

    • Raul Indries

Yes, you should be able to. Me for example, i bought my wii u, my 3ds, and vita, from the states. And i’m from Romania, and currently live in Romania. And i can buy games on eshop, as well as get promotional codes.

    • British_Otaku

Bergsala have screwed up a lot of things for you guys I’ve heard, but even things like Club Nintendo codes hmm… >_>

Allowed to make use of a U.K. Club Nintendo account to do stuff like this? Probably not recommended (allowed or whatever) but it should be easy to pull off, you just need to buy a copy physically (I assume if you go digital, you might get a code but better be sure about it instead), use the club nintendo code on a UK Club Nintendo account and I expect your Nintendo eShop to reward you with your free game using the code you get. If it is a physical good from Club Nintendo, there may be a problem with delivery, not an emailed code.

Worst case scenario is that your code isn’t accepted (weird as we are the same region and all – Nintendo ID could decide it) and that you still have one good game.

  • hazelnut1112

This is bullcrap, NA only gets limited games while Europe gets a crapload of options.

    • 하세요

Europe probably needs far more Wii-U sales than the US does so they get a little more candy to bait them into the windowless van.

      • hazelnut1112

I guess it makes sense. I work in retail at the moment and I been seeing way more people buying Wii U’s and PS4 consoles lately. Kinda weird how the turnout came out.

  • I guess I’m gonna be getting some Pikmin 3.

Hope people like this game! And Europeans, hope you like the game and the nice selection you guys got!

  • subsamuel01

The sad thing is I bought all those Wii U games anyway, o well I was planning on buying Kart anyways.

  • Aaron K Stone

New The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker HD?

  • Eric Harris

Damn, I own all of those. Really would have preffered like $25 credit or something so I could purchase NES Remix.

  • AuraGuyChris

Free game? Pikmin 3, here I come.

  • CozyAndWarm

That’s a paltry free game list for the US. More people need to play Wonderful 101.

  • Shadowman

Mario Kart 8 and WW HD this is an amazing offer not to pass up

  • Go2hell66

Didn’t give a damn about MK8 til i heard about that deal. im sold

  • MrJechgo

Baby Rosalina? Hold on a minute…

  • MrJechgo

Also… y’know, that bundle is quite tempting ^_^

  • Kaetsu

Good job Nintendo! If I didn’t have a Wii U already I would buy this bundle in a heartbeat! As for my free download I’ll get Wii U Party since it’s the only game on the NA list I don’t have.

  • The Watcher

Time to get a wii u

  • 3PointDecoupage

    When does this come out?

    • Kaetsu

The game comes out May 30th so the bundle will probably come out the same day.

    • pokeroi

I guess you will have to work harder and wait one more month before getting your Wii U right? XD

  • Kelohmello

I already own all of the games on the US list. Meanwhile, I’d love to have Wonderful 101, up to now I’ve only rented it but it’s the kind of game I’d like to play for a long time. Pretty unfair there.

    • British_Otaku

Aside from being great value for money and a brilliant game, isn’t the game running for around $20 physically on

Help yourself and buy a copy for cheap if they don’t feel like doing the US a favour by making it free to jump into.

  • TalesOfBS

    Deal of the Year.

  • British_Otaku

A pretty strong line up for Europe surprisingly enough, shame that I’m a physical distribution person for the most part, especially in the case of Sonic Lost World which I wouldn’t mind getting for free but I wouldn’t be happy missing out on that Deadly Six Content even if it lasts a few minutes…

How DLC can make me bitter… >_>

EDIT: While there aren’t many games for me to pick up on the Wii U (The Wonderful 101 will keep me busy and I’ve got a big backlog of other things, then Darksiders 2 on the Wii U) and I’m much more interested in F-Zero than Mario Kart, this deal sorta of won me over.

EDIT EDIT: I don’t know about the Japanese or American Nintendo Directs for Mario Kart 8, but the British one was so good that it won me over on the whole game. >_> Let’s hope that we get F-Zero and some strong marketing for that as well.

    • pokeroi

If you have time watch the NA one. Pretty funny.

    • Haganeren

I liked Sonic Lost World a lot but the DLC Deadly Six was terrible and done in 5 minutes to be honest.

Also, the DLC Yoshi and Zelda are free, you really don’t want that “Deadly Six Edition” that much…

      • British_Otaku

Thanks for the advice, I still have a complex where I don’t like owning a game if I can’t own the whole thing but I may go and get it for free and choose to enjoy the Nintendo themed free DLC instead.

  • Pikmin 3. ;u;
    I will have you now! . . .and MK8.
    Even though I won’t have a Wii U for a while. >u<;

    • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Well the deal is only until the end of July. Gotta get to it!

      • Oh, yikes! I’ll try and get it right when it hits shelves then. >u<

  • Kavyn

I wanted to get Pikmin 3 in physical form but I definitely won’t say no to a free game :). This is a great deal!

  • Yan Zhao

Was hoping Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze would’ve been a free option haha. But I understand why its not. It just came out.

  • Can’t wait but bummer I would have definitely liked to have that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate game on my US Wii U so I guess I’ll just settle for Pikmin 3 since I already own NSMBU physically and LoZ: WWHD both physically and digitally and I have no interest in Wii Party U.

    • pokeroi

Don’t worry. Pikmin 3 won’t let you down.

      • Of course not I already have the other Pikmin games on Wii as well.

  • Arrei

Well hell, I was already getting this anyway, and I never did get to pick up Pikmin 3. Sounds good to me!

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

Can’t wait to get Zelda here.^_^ Never been a fan for the series, but i hope this one will convert me into one.^_^

  • leingod

That’s a nice deal! Although something tells me US users are getting the short end of the stick. I wonder why that is?

    • NintendoPSXTheSecond

Sales be abysmal in Europe. So they gotta spicen the deal. Not like I didn’t want Sonic or Wonder 101…

      • leingod

Well that does make sense. Still, it kinda sucks.

  • Hya

    Digitally Available

I have been waiting for Wii Party U to become available digitally before purchasing it. I am happy that I will finally be able to own this game (I already ordered the horizontal stand from eBay). However, I am still waiting for Nintendo Land to return to the eShop. Since Nintendo Land physically came with my system, I didn’t purchase it digitally at the time. I regret that now as my entire library of games, sans Call of Duty, is digital. Just knowing that I could have owned Nintendo Land digitally, if I had purchased it while I had the chance, makes the entire eShop questionably scary. Nintendo should never have taken Nintendo Land off of the eShop. It really gives me an uneasy feeling that I cannot shake. The only means of feeling comfortable with the eShop again is if I can get Nintendo Land digitally, somehow.
