Toukiden Extreme Introduces Three New Weapon Types

By Sato . May 6, 2014 . 8:30am

Tecmo Koei recently announced Toukiden Extreme, an updated version or “G version” of Toukiden, which will feature twice the amount of demons and story volume as the first game. Famitsu reports that the updated game will also be introducing three new weapon types.

According to Famitsu’s sneak peek of this week’s issue, the three new weapon types are Naginata (Japanese Halberd,) Kanabo (spiked or knobbed club,) and a new firearm-type weapon. While the report doesn’t reveal much more, the rifle-like weapon looks like it’ll be a nice addition to the bow as a long-ranged weapon in Toukiden Extreme.

We’ll have more details on the new weapons when this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine gets published.

Toukiden Extreme will be released in Japan sometime in 2014 for PlayStation Vita and PSP.

  • I feel like a fool for buying the original.

    • Godmars

How long have you had and played it?

    • Rintarou

Assuming this comes westward, it likely won’t be until 2015 anyway. More than enough time to get much more than you paid for out of the original before then. :D

    • TheExile285

Why? We won’t even get this for a year and if it doesn’t add enough for a purchase, don’t buy it.

    • Well, you really shouldn’t. The vanilla game was very complete. And we all know that these kind of games always have an expansion. You’re just going to have even more content with it, so you should be happy instead.

They’ve said that Toukiden is now going to be one of their main IPs pillar, so we should definitely expect Toukiden 2, etc.

    • subsamuel01

I doubt this version might even make it stateside.

      • Isamu Daison

KOEI Tecmo isn’t Bandai Namco! They’re dedicated to their fans! It’ll come out!

        • subsamuel01

Depends on how the first one sold outside Japan.

          • Juan Manuel M. Suárez

If they brought the Atelier games [even as digital] as well as the DN entries, this game will come~.

    • Altin

People will feel betrayed if they either dont get the game to begin with (i.e. Vanilla Toukiden) or if TK releases an enhanced edition almost a year after the original game`s release in Japan. Get a grip, I am glad that we got it to begin with and chances are fair that we will get this version as well.

    • Death Saved

If its a monster hunting game then always wait at least a year, if you dont want to buy the game twice.

  • Xорошо 不死鳥 Zikk

Chain and Sickle, you’ve been faithful to me throughout Toukiden.

But, I’m not! >:D I’m switching you out for the Gun! Bye~!

    • Anewme…Again

Same here, except i was using spear.
Monsters hunter made me love hunting with guns :P

    • Shady Shariest

      Chocobos… Surprisingly good at aiming

  • Masa

    Extreme….Empire edition next :)

  • We’ll have 4 new weapon types, that’s for sure. They’ve to keep the equal ratio of male and female NPCs, after all. So they’ll probably reveal a last weapon later. Would like to have some sort of chain-whip.

    • tubers

  • Dear god, Capcom, what have you started…honestly, though. this is getting ridiculous. Why does every Hunter game have to have a G version? Why not just make a sequel rather than a 1.5? So the company can save money to make more?

    • TheExile285

What does a sequel usually have? New characters, new weapons, new story and new gameplay elements.

What do these updates usually have? New characters, new weapons, new story (depending on the series) and new gameplay elements.

If the update ends up doubling the content, I don’t see the problem. TK already said the game will have twice as many monsters and now there’s 4 new weapon types. I understand what you mean, but I think people should wait and see what this offers before jumping to conclusions.

      • Kornelious

        Four? There’s another weapon type!?

  • TheExile285

    I’ll probably switch to Naginata

    • MaximDualBlade

why not Lance and Naginata love :)

Edit: Btw it will sound like a sound, so we should play Toukiden together next week. Which phase are you online? I am currently 4-7 or 4-9 I think

      • TheExile285

I might be able to jump online. I’m around 4-9

        • MaximDualBlade

          awesome then. lances unite!

          • Harmonic

            mind if i join in?

  • Luis Es.

Chances are ill stick with the dual knives..But i’ll definitely try some of these new weapons out. Depending on how long the wait for this game is for it to come to the states.. I may just import! I LOVEd the first toukiden and it was the first hunter game that i was able to really get into. I really loved all the background info they gave on each Mitama and the different play styles you could play by mixing mitamas up even if you use the same weapons there was still a different variety of play styles. Can’t wait for more info. On this game.!

  • SerendipityX

Gonna alternate between bow and gun and continue using my friends as demon bait.

    • Cheesy04

I like how you think haha

    • lordsofskulls

that how i been playing so far… >.> the Bow makes it easy to snipe specific parts. I kinda wish you could select two weapons 1 range and 1 melee cause once all parts broken 1 melee would speed up the process of finishing the demons by alot.

my other concern when are we getting the update/upgrade or new version in the West >.> cause… T.T that so unfair to announce it moment it came out in USA

    • Hinataharem

If only the demons saw your friends as the same thing. More often than I’d like, I was the target as a bow user

  • Shady Shariest

This is one of the moments i feel glad about meself delaying the purchase of Vita till fall. Less re-releases bugging me :x
(But i miss the hype and high-points of popularity. Oh wellp.)

  • Kornelious

So basically we have a gun, a hammer, and what’s practically a scythe……..Works for me! :P

I usually alternate between the Sword, Daggers, and ocasionally the Gauntlets (You can thank Jude Mathis for that) So i’m interested in the Halberd :)

  • SerChief

  • Kornelious

I wonder if when they say “More Story Subtance” if they mean more story in the Vannila part, or more story in the “G” part?

  • Prinnydoom

Well saw that coming from a mile off. *Sigh* and i just bought Toukiden today as well. Ah well extreme versions are always good.

    • Vash bane

kinda glad I didn’t get it yet. since I’m technically busy with the other games I have yet to beat lol

  • tubers

Damn this is making me want an Onimusha VITA even more.. :P

  • shuyai

nop, dont bring gun into Toukiden!!

  • WyattEpp

Probably the matchlock firearm often called the “Tanegashima Rifle” in Western literature (though that’s really just where they were first manufactured). It’s a pretty iconic weapon for its role in Sengoku military campaigns.

  • I may have to import this

  • xXDGFXx

Naginata and gun have my attention.

  • CDM

Oh sweet, more weapons; having another ranged weapon is especially awesome. Having more weapons is always a great addition in hunting games. Can’t wait to see what monsters their adding too. I’m pretty excited for Toukiden G–I mean, Extreme.

  • Tenabrus

    Is that a naginata?

    you have my attention…

  • izanagi

I hope that they put in a way to either bond with your comrades or a way to pet your tenko.

  • leingod

It should have more! I mean, they could just take some from the tens found in Dynasty Warriors.

  • Loli Summoner

This is a really fun game and the funniest game I have for my vita, the only problem I have with this game is…EVERY CLASS IS SO FREAKING SLOW! besides the twin daggers (which I main) sword, spear, fist and bow are really slow, I can hardly get any real dmg in without getting smacked into oblivion.

    • ajneez

have you ever played monster hunter, this is a slow game!!!!

  • Now we need a easy way to get Hero souls.
