The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokémon uses the Nintendo 3DS StreetPass function to collect and partakw in battles with hundreds of Pokémon at a time. The game’s trailer gives us a first look of the action.

The premise of The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokémon is to befriend and collect Pokémon through StreetPass. You can use Pokémon to take on the band of thieves and their Pokémon by clashing in stampede-style battles to retrieve stolen treasure.

If you don’t have enough Pokémon, you’ll end up losing against the thieves, so you’ll actually need to have quite a lot of Pokémon to get far in the game. The villains are characters who’ll be appearing in the upcoming film, Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction.

The trailer also mentions that there’s a special something in store for those who play the game and take it to the movie theaters when the new Pokémon movie premieres. There will also be something special for those with Pokémon X and Y.

The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokémon will be available for free on the Nintendo 3DS eShop from June 5 to September 30, 2014.

This actually sounds like a genius use of StreetPass. Haven’t played X in a while but I feel the StreetPass features in it were….lacking

    • Quizler

They were in fact really dumb, I hope the ruby and sapphire remakes have like streetpass secret bases or something

      • flameraver64

That’d be so awesome, I remember that RSE had some pretty cool social features

        • hawk222

          StreetPass Secret Bases, maybe?

  • 7margarita7

looks like paper mario and pokemon had a baby

  • pokeroi

I heard it’s not only free to play. It’s just free.

  • tturtlejosh

It looks like those battles in Pokemon Rumble where you have to repeatedly press a button to win

    • AJ

      …..which were pretty fun, actually.

I wish I didn’t live in Canada. Not ideal for streetpass.

  • DeAndre Atchison

How do I “partakw” in battle?

    • keithmaxx

You, sir, earn a gold star. Go on, takw it.

  • SetzerGabbiani

Looks like Unchained Blades’ Judgement Battles

    • AuraGuyChris

But without the voices and the sick-looking monsters.

  • 3PointDecoupage

It looks fun. The only thing I dont like about these spinoffs is that they never have all the pokemon. It looks like just Pikachu and the 50 that came with x and y

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

I hardy get Streetpasses even when I go to Mcdonalds I get around 5 at best. Maybe they will change it to work with play coins or something

    • Anko Is Furious (King T.G.P)

That’s better than the 1 I get in Hoboken, NJ (Since my older brothers 3DS is the only one nearby and he leaves it in sleep mode) lol.

Only time I got/get more was when I went/go to a Mall in Newark x.x.

  • Morningstar

    Pokemon: Zerg Rush.

  • TerrenceEncore Jones

This game looks like fun. However where I live I feel like the only person who has a N3DS. I haven’t picked up a single street pass since X and Y came out LOL. I gotta start hitting the gaming conventions LOL

Another thought would be letting us use the gaming coins we collect by walking with the N3DS. I never play any of the other games they are actually for so I have them just sitting there waiting to be used.
