Fantasy Life Has Around 21,000 Pages Of Text

By Ishaan . June 11, 2014 . 5:10pm

Level 5’s Fantasy Life is coming to North America and Europe this October on the Nintendo 3DS, and during a live-stream earlier today, Nintendo’s Treehouse product development team showed off the game in depth.

During the stream, Treehouse representatives said that, if you count all the dialogue and text in the game together, Fantasy Life has the amount of prose of a 21,000-page novel.

Fantasy Life lets you choose from 12 job classes—Paladin, Mercenary, Hunter, Wizard, Cook, Angler, Woodcutter, Miner, Blacksmith, Carpenter, Tailor and Alchemist.  Each class comes with its own story elements and skills, and you can change class at any time in the game.

Fantasy Life also supports co-operative multiplayer.

based on what i’ve seen so far this game looks like it has an insane amount of depth

    • natchu96

I think Pokemon already taught me long ago how much depth one can hide in a cartoony-looking kids game.

  • Fruity Insanity

Still not as text-heavy as Kiseki/10

I can’t wait for the game to come out, though.

  • Slickyslacker

So, this is what they spent their time on instead of DQ VII 3DS.

    For shame.

    • yellowmage

Way to sound like an ungrateful douche. I want DQVII, too, but this is still very nice to have.

    • Anewme…Again

I would love to be able to play DQVII too, but i prefer by far to get Fantasy Life since i have already played DQVII in the past.

    • Kornera

Didn’t know Level-5 was publishing SE games

    • Dave Kokandy

My reaction exactly. If Nintendo is publishing an RPG, why not Dragon Quest VII? Square Enix was surprised with the success of Bravely Default, and for Nintendo to publish this to follow it up with this is really disappointing to me.

  • Saraneth

What is that, 6 million words? How does it compare to other games?

  • Shippoyasha

Well, there should rightfully be a ton of contextual dialogue.

Much like Street Fighter 4 has a huge amount of character lines depending on which character beats which other character.

  • yellowmage

Awesome, I’ve been hoping for this! Just need to hope a little harder for an EU date!

  • 21,000 Pages Of Text? Doesn’t say much. How many lines per page? How many characters per line? How much spacing was used? These details are important to know how text heavy it is.

    • Enzo

I watched the part where this was mentioned and he specifically mentioned novel (as it does here too). While it doesn’t give much, it does tell us that it isn’t something like only 100 words per page.

  • Farid Belkacemi

Well, I was already sold but that first look got me even more hyped. Day one.

  • Dystopiq

If they announced DQ VII for 3DS as well here in the west, this will be the best E3 since like 2006.

  • Shinobikens

So is there gonna marriage and stuff in this (this E3 is the first time I’ve heard anything about this game)

  • I can’t wait to play it!

  • JohnNiles

Huge script, switchable job classes, and crafting? Color me interested.

  • wububu

“Fantasy Life also supports co-operative multiplayer.”

So does this confirm that we will be getting the Link version?

  • Go2hell66

21000 pages?Lol what is this? Legend of heroes?

  • I seriously cannot waaait for this to come out! *fidgets in seat from excitement*

  • Lemski07

another game that will be on my money reserve list.

  • Chim_era

Lalalalalala, thank you Level 5. I’m setting up a welcome home party ;)

  • Roger

Have Nintendo localized it, or Level-5 itself? I mean, the second one is barelly translating something else besides eShop titles.

Maybe we’ll have Youkai Watch sooner or later?

I wanted DQVII too (actually, it´s my most wanted 3DS title), but this is a nice localization for sure….so much classes/Jobs and variety. Brownie Brown apparently did a great job.

  • KuroNathan

I’ve been waiting for this game ever since it’s been announced. I’ll take 20

  • Emsa

This is why being an importer can suck sometimes. Bought this game a year ago in Japan so I feel cheated when they announce it as a “new” game on e3 ;p

    Fun game though.

  • wahyudil

is this come with all of the expansions?

  • rubin

    Must have
