Bayonetta Will Get To Control A Mech In Bayonetta 2

By Ishaan . June 12, 2014 . 2:16pm

Bayonetta will get to pilot some sort of a mech in Bayonetta 2, Nintendo and PlatinumGames revealed today on Nintendo’s Treehouse live-stream.

According to director Yusuke Hashimoto, the mech doesn’t control all that differently from Bayonetta herself. Punches can go into bullet attacks, kicks can go into a strong blast attack.

Like Bayonetta, the mech attacks using both hands and feet. It has machineguns on its hands and some sort of shotgun-like weapon on its legs.

Bayonetta 2 is slated for release this October.

Hmmm. Considering her witchy powers I don’t really see the point of a mech being included.
I think playing parts of the game in her animal form would have been truer to the feel of the game and be a diverse aspect enough that a mech is kind of……Pointless.
    But that’s my opinion.

    • TheFoolArcana

Why does there always have to be a point?

      • revenent hell

Because I like consistency in the games I play?
A nice cohesive bundle that feels like it belongs with in the atmosphere of the game.

Edit : Random aspects of/in games, as in the mech here, don’t “feel” natural to the story and tends to take me out of it and make me think ” What the hell was the point of this?” Besides the obvious “because we can and why not? People like mechs in games”

        • subsamuel01

I’m sure the people who make the game and created the universe know what they’re doing.

          • revenent hell

Mhmm. Doesn’t mean it will feel natural within the game. And even people who create something have fail moments.

          • PreyMantis

Like anything feels natural in the game to begin with…

          • revenent hell

True but I kind of prefer in games to retain their “feel” throughout.

As I said I just don’t see how a mech will fit in and still maintain the games atmosphere.

          • PreyMantis

It will, it’s a Bayonetta game.

          • Slayven19

Because the atmosphere doesn’t really change by adding a mecha. I really don’t see how you can say it won’t fit. There has only been one bayo game before this so you can’t really say what the evolution should be like.

          • revenent hell

Simply by the fact she has witch powers and considering the things she went up against in the first game without a need of a mech it seems rather out of place in a game of this type to me. So I stated as much.

        • Fitzkrieg

I dunno, using magical powers to create a pilotable magitech suit is pretty cool. Worked for Cecil in Wizard Barristers just fine.

          • revenent hell

Yeah but if you take Bayonetta’s first story and think of it from there in to this story I just don’t see why it would even be needed to begin with.

          • Oversoul

Because the first game had a 10 minute long shmup/star fox sequence where she rode a missile, and a scenario where she surfs around fighting a giant angel crab in the ocean. A mecha sequence seems almost implied at this point.

            I mean, really

          • revenent hell

Yes but that fit within the game atmosphere to me. A mech really doesn’t.
            I mean, like, really.

          • Arz

This is why focusing on story in video games suck. Just play it to have fun for holy sake.

          • revenent hell

            Uh no.
Story is a major part of most games. Going by your statement people just should play games and like them all regardless of what they are or what drivel the story is. This isn’t a fighting game mash up, I expect a bit more in the story.
I like consistency throughout a game and if something doesn’t fit I don’t like it because it takes away from the feel of the game and experience for me.

          • Arz

story is like….the third thing we should look in games. if you want cohesive story or depth go read books or watch movies. If the gameplay sucks, then I don’t care about the story. But if the gameplay’s great but the story is a mess, it’s still a great game.

          • revenent hell

I disagree, story is more important to me than gameplay. If the story suck for me it makes the gameplay unenjoyably, even though for some games the gameplay is all that saves it from being horrid.
And not everyone believes or has your same view in regards to it as you. Based on that “thought” of people should just give a shit about gameplay essentially all you people are saying is all games don’t need a story and they don’t matter, and they do.To me.

          • Arz

“story is more important to me than gameplay”. WOW, seriously? they’re called video games for a reason you know. Now, I love tons of games with great stories like FF series or MGS. But they have great gameplay, so……

          • revenent hell

Its a 50/50 road for me.
Gameplay can be out of this world awesome but if the story is shit it doesn’t matter because there’s no incentive to continue to play it because interest in what’s happening is entirely gone.
On the other hand even when gameplay is poor I have continued to play the game just to finish the story because it was good.

          • Arz
          • revenent hell

I could care less about what this person says being as I don’t enjoy the games he has been a part of.
Hence I wont read the article.

    • popyea

This seems very much in the vein of the Super Hang-On and Space Harrier sections in the first game. I don’t think Platinum are aiming for tonal consistency with these homage sections.

      • revenent hell

See, if it looked like it was being summoned from her hair and as large as , well maybe what a gundam would be,then she “mysteriously” piloted it for an attack I think that would fit but how its shown kind of doesn’t give me that feel really, and makes me think its more or less there just to say it is.

  • Suicunesol

Lotta mechs from Nintendo this year. Filsamech, Xenoblade Mech, STEAM mech, Bayonetta mech. Miyamoto Robot mech…

  • videoman190

What is that mecha’s name? I guess for now the name of Bayonetta is a mystery for now until the next update.

  • tturtlejosh

This is definitely the system seller for but I need something more social on the Wii U maybe trophies or achievements? Ok why don’t we called them medals? There now make it happen Nintendo!

    • CozyAndWarm

There might be in-game achievements, not sure. Trophies/achievements just for the sake of having them are a terrible idea though

    • KoRLumen

I believe they’ve stated in the past that they don’t support the idea of an achievement system. Something about “it misses the point.”

But don’t quote me on that lol.

  • DeAndre Atchison

Darnit Nintendo. Stop making me want to but a Wii u

    • KoRLumen

If you buy a Wii U, you’ll stop wanting to buy one! Simple, really! :D

  • James Enk

this game is packed with awesome stuff

  • Ixbran

    I am so glad I bought a Wii U <3

  • Ying

I don’t know how I feel about this. On the one hand it is a mech and those are always fun, but I wonder if this is going to be like the vehicle sections in the first game? Going to have to wait for more information on this

    • Göran Isacson

Ha ha, true enough. From the gameplay posted thus far it seems like it controls just like regular Bayonetta, so no on-rails sequences here.

      That we’ve SEEN, at least.

  • MagiusNecros

Game just gets better and better.

  • SMT

I’m still saving for my inevitable PS4 purchase, but this and Xenoblade Chronicles X really make me want to have a Wii U as well ><

    • zeta

when SMT x FE is released just like your name if you’re a SMT fan you’ll regret it for not buying wiiu

      • SMT

I’ll wait until it’s actually out though… I already got burned with “The Last Guardian” and “Final Fantasy Versus XIII”.

At least if that one is actually going to happen, it won’t take long for it to reach Europe, unlike SMT4, due to being handled by Nintendo themselves.

  • TeachDRRR

It’s like Kamiya loves all the same stuff I do. How do you make Bayonetta even better? ADD MECHS! Thank you based Kamiya.

  • MSJ

    thank you based kamiya

  • Devinja

  • Thomaz Barros

Kamiya isn’t the one in charge of Bayonetta 2

  • z_merquise

This is how Bayo-mecha look like in gameplay:

    • Göran Isacson

Oh, neat moon-designs they’ve got there. I presume that means they’re Umbran in design, though I wonder a little how they’re going to make Bayo in a mech feel more powerful than Bayo outside a mech.

    • Linhua

      … WOW.

… I am going to pretend I didn’t hear what it REALLY sounded like I think I heard at 2:06… lol.

  • Mind0105A

Tch. I guess it’s about time that I get Wii U.

  • 60hz

i always thought it was obvious that making amazing action games is way too easy for platinum they have to challenge themselves by piling in the features that in them selves could carry a whole game… geesh, what i wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall in a p* conference room…
