Lost Dimension Shows Its Valkyria Chronicles-Like Battle System

By Sato . June 12, 2014 . 2:25am

Unchained Blades makers FuRyu’s upcoming RPG, Lost Dimension, might look like it was inspired by Shin Megami Tensei IV, but its battle system looks like it could be compared to that of the Valkyria Chronicles series. Famitsu shares a look at some action footage.

Protagonist Sho Kasugai and his fellow member of S.E.A.L.E.D. seem to have encountered some robotic-looking foes in what looks like the first layer of the giant pillar that is supposed to be the ruins of New York City.

During the player phase, the characters are shown taking action and fighting the enemies that are within their attacking range. After Himeno Akatsuki uses her “Burn” fire magic, Sho backs her up with an assist attack to finish off the mob.

Yoko Tachibana also looks like she’ll be using her telepathic abilities to use by providing allies with buffs and support. Agito, the other guy in the group looks like he has the ability to teleport, while the cute purple-haired girl named Mana seems to be a powerhouse with attacks like “Cheat Impact”.

The long blonde-haired girl, Nagi, looks like she can float around, but we don’t get to see much of her talent besides her SMG attacks. Sho and Yoko seem like they’ll be more on the balanced side from what we see in the footage.

Once they complete the level, the group of S.E.A.L.E.D. reach a peculiar room. After Himeno calls out the villain named The End, he appears and tells them that the only way they can advance through the room is by “erasing” someone from their group, by their own hands.

The group seems to be against the idea of it, but it doesn’t take long for some sort of automatic voting process to appear. After one of them was erased, the group seem pretty baffled by how it happened, as Touya Olbert realizes that it indeed happened, and due to their decision.

Lost Dimension will be released on August 7, 2014 in Japan for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

    This looks so great ;_____;

  • Raze

    Kinda like Shining Blade/Ark too…

    And this is the shit..

Gonna import this if it doesn’t come out here

  • AlphaSixNine

Looks nice. Hoping it gets localized.

  • Ecchitori-san

I hope NISA or Atlus picks this up. The battle system looks good. The story is intriguing though it sounds cliche..

    • HassanJamal

As long as Namco bandai doesnt get it, Ill be happy.

      • AkuLord3

        Because?! what now?

        • HassanJamal

Because said company only releases digital games on vita recently. I’d rather have Xseed since they have the best of both, digital and physical.

      • Izzeltrioum

Yet another one that misspells Square Enix/Atlus. Bamco or Xseed are the ways to go nowadays.

    • Wrathful

I hope NISA picks this up. It needs to be in Europe just as other regions receive the game. All things considered everything I read about this game seems too awesome to be true.

    • God

Really? I don’t know many games with this plot…

  • Now I’ll definitely want this. Needs to be localised; will get both versions, if it is.

  • Land of Green Pasture

no aiming system… well,, that’s still ok I guess..

  • Hentailover

Usually, I’m all for moe blobs.. but if I end up playing this, that glasses girl is the first sacrifice…

    • DeAndre Atchison

      How dare you!!
Its because she doesn’t have a gun, isn’t it?

  • DeAndre Atchison

A character can give another extra turns.
Same character has a monk skill
    Same character wears glasses.
    Perma member status.

  • neocatzon

    Animated 3D hairs.

    • DyLaN

Though yeah, the shaking hair is a bit distracting. Some1 forgot to turn the fan on the set off :P

      • neocatzon

They distract me and somewhat not consistent. The MC has it the worst.

  • Xinen

Any word if this will be on the JPN PSN on day 1? If it is I will probably go that route but if not I’ll just import it. Looks great.

  • Höhlenmensch

This looks so good, I really hope NISA picks it up.

It’s like a golden age PS2 midtier JRPG coming out of nowhere.

  • Tincho Kudos

Looking good! The battle system is better than expected :D

  • Aristides

Isn’t this Sakura War’s battle system rather than VC? In any case it looks like a decent Vita title, it would be nice if someone brings it over.

    • RagingTiger44

I was thinking the same thing.

    • 60hz

yeah i kept rewatching the battle sequence for any VC mechanics… i thought i just missed them, but what you said seems a bit more accurate, this is sakura wars system, which VC evolved from.

  • Had written this off as pretty generic at first, but the whole voting someone off the island deal sounds quite intriguing. Really curious to see how those decisions affect the story, and hope the characters are an interesting bunch. Will definitely keep an eye on this one.

  • Göran Isacson

Iiiinteresting. Both gameplay wise (what can I say, I’m a sucker for Valkyria Chronicles) and story-wise, in that you may have to continue “voting” people off in order to advance.

Although if that is the case, I’m kind of curious about that whole “one of these people may be a traitor”. Will the traitor automatically become someone who ISN’T voted off. Or is the traitor randomly assinged at the start of the game, and you can in fact just so happen to vote them off at the start? Will the game give us THAT much freedom? I wonder…

    • Zero_Destiny

You the main character end up being the traitor, that way the traitor can never be voted off!

Unless the game is so cruel as to have a million endings and you get voted off left and right as a bad end. XD

      • Göran Isacson

That would be amusing, though I do believe there ISN’T a main character in the game. At least that’s the impression I’ve been given so far. No party leader or anything, just a group of ten that you can mix and match as you please.

        • Zero_Destiny

Well that shoots down my theory then. lol

  • Kornelious

Huh, Not how I expected the combat to be. Though it looks really fun and fits the theme of the game.
The cast looks cool too, This game is gonna be the next Valkyria Chronicles at this rate :D I sure hope we get a localization :)

  • leadintea

My disinterest in this game has suddenly turned to massive interest. I will be following this game closely to see what it’s all about.

  • Ozymandias

please bring it to the west. or at least have an asia/pacific edition that has english subtitles.

  • Looks amaizing! Hopefully Atlus picks it up or NISA.

  • I really don’t know how you can say this looks “amazing”, “nice” “so good”…IMO it seems boring. I’m definitely not impressed.

  • Slayven19

This looks pretty good, nice to know they got some inspiration from VC for this game.

  • Randgriz

Getting more and more interested in this game! I hope itll have a english release.

  • Sav

keepin my eye on this one.
