Bayonetta 2 Includes Bayonetta Game Disc In Japan

By Spencer . June 16, 2014 . 12:27am

Nintendo announced Bayonetta 2 will include the first game, previously released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, as a bonus. Bayonetta for Wii U will have Nintendo themed costumes that change Bayonetta into Samus, Princess Peach, and Link. These special outfits have other Nintendo touches like changing the graphics and sound effects.

In Japan, retail copies of Bayonetta 2 will include Bayonetta on a separate disc. However, in the West, Bayonetta will be a digital download on the eShop when you purchase a boxed copy of Bayonetta 2 or get it from the eShop.

Bayonetta 2 is slated for release on September 20 in Japan.

  • I kind of like how the Japanese box was formatted better, but either way, it’s all sexy. ♥

    • Aoshi00

      Was going to import this for the disc then forgot Wii u s not region free like PS 3/4,.orXB1 *.*;

      • British_Otaku

Still waiting for the ultimate console, aren’t we?
A console that is region free and backwards compatible.

The early PS3 was close (imagine if we could play foreign PS2 and PS1 games).
And almost all of Nintendo’s portables were doing it till the DSi.

If we don’t get Bayonetta 1 on disc in Europe, I might import B2 from Japan just because… >_>

        • Aoshi00

Yeah the Wii u hdd is only 32 gb and I got Wii u party for free with MK8. Don’t want all the full games to hog so much space. Wouldbe nice to have B1 on disc, but I could overlook this time cuz I got B1 on 360 alrdy. I don’t like the recent PS3 disc games that require full hdd install though :( a bit like fake disc ver. Would be busy watching the world cup this month ;)

        • Aoshi00

Also good thing is the us ver would be dual audio too at least :)

  • Go2hell66

wow, writing discs must be really expensive these days…

    • Gasarocky

Not “these days” it’s ALWAYS been that way. Physical production was always one of the biggest reasons a small developer had no chance of making a game. A publisher wouldn’t want to take a risk with such a huge potential expense. With digital distribution not only do the publishers not have to worry about producing physical items, but also the developers don’t even need a publisher unless they want to be on a console(and not just an unadvertized “indie market” game)

      • Haganeren

Yes and no, writing discs was considered really cheap at the beginning. (That’s why you have so many PSX games… Which are from a lot of little indie studio) notably compared to cartridge. The distribution, on the other hand, can be really expensive (which is why so many niche games can’t be found at some place). In the case of Bayonetta though, the distribution would have be here either way…

So yeah, it’s cheaper to have a DD only Bayonetta 1 but really, they could afford a physical disk…

    • eilegz

not much compared to bandwidth issues, but since nintendo online its worse than psn its not that they are heavy investing on it.

  • evilmajikman

West. Still getting the shaft on Nintendo games 20+ years later.

  • Haganeren

At a moment, Japanese said “no” to DD only games…
    We didn’t, so that’s our reward…

    • oresamawasugoi

Download only is not a reward, at least not for me.

      • Haganeren

        That was the point…

  • NeptuniasBeard

So happy she cut her hair. Don’t even need a reason… it’s just awesome!

  • Zizal

Digital only means that I’ll wait for a price drop.

    • NeptuniasBeard

Really? For a free game you didn’t even know was going to be included until a week ago? Yeah, okay, you don’t have a crazy sense of entitlement. Funny part is, by the time this price drops, you may not even be able to get it.

      • Egil

Its like 60 euro or dollars for two games not a bad deal.

Edit: replied to the wrong person sorry :p

    • Link

This may be only a limited run, by the time the price drop happens you might not be able to get Bayo 1 with it anymore, so have fun.

      • Zizal

I played the ps3 version (worst one) and I wanted the wii u disc as a collector so it doesn’t really matter.

    • Herok♞

Please tell me you are joking, you would really wait for a price drop because of the bonus game and not the main content? Most companies would have us spend $60 for one game in the first place and not give us anything in return, yet when we get two games for the same $60 you are complaining that the one they didn’t need to give us is DD only, I could understand if both were DD but it shouldn’t matter for the first one which you say you already own.

  • OniLuigi

This is all great stuff. Of course like quite a few people, I’d want the disk version of both games. Not even for collecting, I just want to save space. I still haven’t found the best hard drive yet.

    • Shippoyasha

I want a disc for ownership. Just the sensation I don’t get too much these days, buying online games, which I am not strictly against. But nothing quite beats a physical disc. Even though I got rid of all the useless game cases and got a proper binder instead.

  • Arcade Bumstead

What a pain in the ass. I’ll just keep my ps3 disc

    • Namuro

It’s a pain to get free stuff?

      • Arcade Bumstead

It’s not free if I gotta get a new memory card or hard disk for it. There’s nothing else on Wii U that would necessitate me buying one. Everything else is on discs or just isn’t that big.

Also I forgot that the Wii U is wifi only so the download is always gonna be slow no matter how your connection is.

        • James Enk

so you only wanted to get the game if it had Bayo 1 on the disk?

          • Arcade Bumstead

I’m disappointed that I’ll miss out on the bonus features

          • Link

Just grab an 8gb USB for 5$, its exactly what I did for the Free game download with MK8. Not really much of a problem.

          • Arcade Bumstead

Oh. I didn’t think a usb stick would work. Good tip.

      • AceWildCard

Unfortunately for some individuals you may have to pay bandwidth for internet usage. so Its easy to assume how a physical disk would be ideal :(

  • aizen310

    I just can’t imagine the controls on a Wiipad. It’s just… wrong.

    • Gasarocky

They’re the same as they were on Bayo 1. You only use the touchscreen if you want to use touchscreen specific controls which is basically the same idea as Easy Automatic in Bayo 1. If you just mean because the pad is cumbersomely HEUG!1!! then yeah I agree, but it’s quite likely we’ll be allowed to play with the pro controller, since again, the gamepad functions aren’t used in normal play

      • aizen310

I see. I just hope they allow us to go hardcore with some more difficulty. Easy Automatic is just way too casual for my tastes. Time will tell.

        • popyea

Posts like this are just confusing. Why would you need to hope that easy automatic is not the only difficulty? Oh right I forgot, Nintendo is for babies and casuals, gotcha.

          • aizen310

            Possibly because of the Wiipad?
Before you insult someone, please consider the peripherals.
Also I own a Wii. Am I Nintendo enough now? :/

          • Haganeren

No, you’re Wii enough but not Wii U enough. GamePad don’t magically makes easier difficulty for games. (Or that was not what you meant by “WiiPad” ? I don’t really understand this term, did you want to say “Wiimote” ?)

          • aizen310

WiiUPad then? That touchscreened monstrosity. Is that a controller you imagine yourself playing a Bayonetta game with?

You know what? I don’t care. Nintendo fanboys attack me saying, I look down on them saying casual players and all, then I state I actually play on a Wii system because I think the games it has are cool, then I got attacked because I don’t know that c***’s name?

            My final opinion is:
WiiU’s touchscreen pad is not a good controller for a Bayonetta game. They can try to optimize for it, but controller itself is just weird and unconvenient for fast-paced hack’n slash action. They can allow the use of Classic Controller-like controllers, but that’s yet again another peripheral that needs to bought. And if there’s one thing I learned about Nintendo through their Wii is that they have a fetish for peripherals.

Please, don’t answer, just accept it as it is. My main complaint is the touchscreen controller, not the WiiU!

          • jdge

I have absolutely zero problems understanding How the Game Pad will work easily with any game. Its a controller, with a screen in the middle. If anything, Ive noticed, that it is the most comfortable controller out their. Im not small, so the controllers that I was used to when playing a game had my arms pulled at a less than comfortable position to ensure my hands were close enough together to use the controller. With the pad, and even more so, nunchuch and remote, I can lean back, and be comfortable and play any game with ease.

Secondly, It has every button a standard controller has. It literally just a controller with a screen. How you people manage to call it cumbersome, or in capable of being a controller is beyond some of the simplest forms of logic to me.

          • Haganeren

Yeah The Wonderful 101 is quite difficult. Heck, i even find New Super Mario Bros U way more difficult than a lot of indie plateformer. The only Nintendo Game i’m worried about from a difficulty standpoint is Zelda.

But yeah, the assumption Nintendo makes “Easy Games” is really strong.

          • Sneferie

Tropical Freeze is pretty challenging too.

    • Herok♞

The only difference between a gamepad and literally every other controller in recent years is the screen in the center and even then if you have a Vita you should be used the concept then.

  • James Enk

i would prefer it on disk but it’s not a big deal… now i think about it why not make a big deal because a bonus game is a digital download?

    • Zizal

Tell me how the company will know that i’m not happy with digital only if I didn’t complain about it? Should I act that i’m happy with digital only so next time there is a bonus will be the same.

      • Gasarocky

It’s fine to share your opinion, just realize that the reason things are moving towards digital is because by and large that’s what the American audience likes. So they actually ARE listening to the vast majority

      • James Enk

write them a letter, sent them an e-mail. of course if for you it’s that big of a deal you should do what you feel like doing

  • bleph

Welp, I guess I’m not getting this game anymore. Good job Nintendo,
you’ve made it so I have literally no reason to buy your console.

    • Slayven19

Wait what’s the problem here, you only wanted the game for bayo 1? You still get the game for free, you just have to download it. Why does the first game being on disc matter that much to you when its a free include anyway?

    • You don’t want Bayo 2?

  • Egil

Its still a free game, just need to get a new hardrive, i dont think 32 gb will be enough

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

Ah dammit! I guess it’s buying the game first hand for me. I hope the file size isn’t too big… 7.1GB on PS3? Double Dammit!

    • Arcade Bumstead

Kamiya tweeted that it’s ported from x360

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

And what size is that? It mightn’t matter to me at this point if Europe gets Bayo 1 on disc as well for Wii U.

        • Eder García

          almost 6GB

  • Steffen

“In Japan, retail copies of Bayonetta 2 will include Bayonetta on a separate disc. However, in the West, Bayonetta will be a digital download on the eShop when you purchase a boxed copy of Bayonetta 2 or get it from the eShop.”

America =/= The West. In Europe Bayonetta 1 will be on disc.

    • TrueDefault

If this is true… yay for Europe! I only half half a gig left on my WiiU HDD.

    • All Fiction

Really ? I would like some source for this, I don’t have a lot of space left on my HDD and it would be nteresting to be sure of this

      • Steffen

In Europe two versions of Bayonette 2 will be released. The normal version won’t include the first game, while the Special Edition will. Since Bayonetta 1 has an higher age rating in Germany than the second game (18+ instead of 16+), the Special Edition is aged 18+. This wouldn’t be the case however, if Bayonetta 1 were only included as download code. In that case you wouldn’t directly purchase Bayonetta 1+2, but Bayonetta 2 with the option to download the first game later and no rating for the first game would be required.

        • TrevHead

I like having discs of my fave console games so fingers crossed this turns out to be true, hopefully it’ll only be £10 more expensive than the normal version or as a Ltd edition for preorder/ Day + 1 buyers.

    • DS23

Ah so it’s Reggie being a fuck yet again, wonderful.

  • Keine

Anyone thinks that she looks like that King dude in Katamari with those costumes??

  • z_merquise

I personally prefer Bayo 1 in disc as well. For someone who had an internet connection that isn’t always reliable, this would be quite a hassle. Taking too much space in the hard drive is another thing too.

  • Hagaren

Japan doing it right. What about Europe? Any chance for a disc here?

What a load of *expletive deleted*. It’s obviously not breaking anyone’s bank to press discs, because other regions are getting them, it’s only NOA who decides to shaft us once again with a download code. I hope their bottom line looks really nice and neat because the products they’re shipping are not really what they could or should be, at least here in the US.

    • darke

I don’t quite understand how it can be helping their bottom line either. It’s a 10c disk at that along with a tiny amount of extra weight for shipping. It’s not like a vita game where you have to have an expensive memory card or anything. :(

    • Pattonfiend67

Complaining about a free game. You are as low as entitled scum can get.

  • Pyrotek85

Gah I knew this was going to happen when they suddenly said we’d get the first game included.

  • British_Otaku

Dunno why but I have the strong urge to import the game as well now… Even if I can’t think of a single Japan exclusive Wii U game for when I may decide to import one of em.

Also, do we know for sure that the digital Bayonetta 1 is for the “West”? Or is it intended for North America?

    • Don’t worry, they said this will be the same with english release in their Tree houses.

      • British_Otaku

I assume they made the claim in the Bayonetta 2 treehouse (still haven’t seen it), but I don’t know why anything they say at E3 can be expected to refer to Europe or UK releases.

Even the term “English” is sort of vague. >_>

    • Pyrotek85

Is importing even an option? I thought the Wii U had a region lock.

      • British_Otaku

Sometimes I import games much like people would eat comfort food. So I can have a nice booklet to read an nice disc to spin in the case. >_> I haven’t done it before for a region locked console I suppose, but I imported Ace Attorney 5 (Limited Edition no less) from Japan though my language skills aren’t high enough for it even though I have a Japanese 3DS.

  • SaiyanJedi_Trunks

I was psyched when I heard the original game was coming with Bayonetta 2. Needless to say, I am disappointed that it is now a digital download. Not simply due to ownership, but I am trying to save space. Unfortunately, that 32 GB can be such a draw back…and I’ll be honest, I don’t like to install full games on an external hard drive.

I’ll still be picking it up though for the extras and the touch control additions…but simply a shame that Nintendo, like other companies can’t follow through to make a great idea only a good idea.

  • That guy

Friends people are complaining about a free game with updates to it…ughh.

    • Pyrotek85

If they’re like me, they’re still wary of Nintendo’s account system. In fact, I don’t think there’s a way of using it on a new system at the moment. Last I heard if your system was broken you’d have to send it in to repair in order for your account to be transferred.

Not to mention that it feels insulting for one region to get an actual disc and the others only a download code.

      • Herok♞

Nintendo has it set up so that if your system breaks you can have them transfer it to a new one if you don’t send it in for repairs.

        • Pyrotek85

That’s a step in the right direction. I still can’t say that I completely trust their account system long term, but we’ll have to wait and see. I still can’t believe that it’s taking them this long, it’s not like this caught them by surprise.

  • null

It doesn’t make sense that they’re distributing Bayo1 digitally overseas. The North American market has sold the most Wii Us AND the most copies of Bayo1 on both the PS3 and the 360. I can understand digital releases for games that don’t sell well in the US, but that doesn’t work in this case, especially considering that they’re releasing a disc version in Japan. Wtf, man.

  • wahyudil

e-shop …. ugh … I think we will get all in one package without any need to fill our limited hard drive …

  • Sentsuizan_93

Aw maan… DAT box art is really easy on the eyes~~ *_*

  • ZetaSiren

If Nintendo has banked money to last till 2052 I’m sure they can afford disks.

  • Eder García

so the game’s size is almost 6GB… i’m OK with this
EDIT looking at the logo… now i understand why Kamiya was pissed off

    • Armane

It’s supposed to look like a crescent moon, because it’s Bayonetta, and the full moon probably has relevance in the full game; which is why it was hidden behind clouds. I hope they change it, and fire whoever cocked it up.

    • Sneferie

Sorry for my ignorance, but why is he pissed off about the logo? I wasn’t even aware that he was.

  • eilegz

why not physical on the west…. sigh considering that japan internet speed its better than any country on the west.

    • According to the data given by OOKLA, Japan internet speed isn’t that great:
(It’s even slower than internet speed in the US)

Anyways, it would have been nice to have a physical version :/

    • Deva Ashera

Japan are more slow to adapt new things, they still don’t like digital things, part of why PC gaming is still not big there.

      • Spirit Macardi

Actually the reason PC gaming isn’t big there is that piracy rates are through the roof. Hell, it’s probably fair to say that actually purchasing a PC game is the exception rather than the rule.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

must have issues with us westerners and disks. Not all of us like digital downloads… wait its Free?! why the hell am I complaining ? I have space for days

  • FFmax

    Dat ass though.

  • Slickyslacker

I figured this would happen. I wasn’t anticipating a retail disc, in any region.

  • Tristan Diaz

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Bayonetta 1 would be on the same disc as Bayonetta 2 in the West. I must have read that wrong…Still getting it regardless.

    • TalesOfBS

Looks like EU is getting Bayo1 on a disc too.
People are still waiting for NoA’s official statement.

      • Tristan Diaz

I hope NoA doesn’t screw us over w/digital, but no matter what happens I’ll have Bayo 1 on the Wii U anyway.

        • TalesOfBS

It would be awesome if they release both games on a single disc. I don’t know how big Bayo1 was but 2 doesn’t seems to be a huge game that would take up all the space on a dual layer disc. Maybe 1 could fit there.

  • Jimi Hendrix

Well I was only going to buy this if Bayonetta 1 came with it (on disc specifically) as I haven’t had the chance to play it before, only owning basically Nintendo consoles all my life. I’m not interested in digital versions and frankly don’t have any room for it on my 8gig Wii U. Stupid move of Nintendo of America’s part and they’ve virtually done themselves out of a sale.
Do a proper release and we’ll talk. Until then you won’t be getting my money.

    • Kumiko Akimoto

Go buy an external memory something and stop being lazy.

      • TrevHead

While the original poster is looking a gift horse in the mouth he does have a point about HD space, Since I have my 360 copy on hand, Bayo 1 alone wouldn’t make me go out and buy an external HD.

        • Slayven19

You buy it for wiiU because honestly you will need one for the future anyway. Kinda like you needed sd cards for wii if people kept downloading stuff.

  • Sylveria Shini

Why are the systems with the smallest storage capacity the ones all gooey about digital releases…

  • Spirit Macardi

Well, I have an external HDD for my Wii U so this isn’t an issue for me, but I can understand it being a problem for those who don’t or have the basic model.

  • Death Saved

Hmm so they removed the blue Wii U logo but still kept the full moon.

  • TrevHead

Well I can’t really complain about Bayo 1 been DLC only.

    Unlike SMT4

  • Kumiko Akimoto

Ohh jeez you people way to much, be happy we got it at all.

  • MrJechgo

Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, ENOUGH ALREADY!

Pokémon… Female… Gym Leaders/Champions/Elite Four Members… Costumes… Is it SO hard to grasp?

That or Tharja from Fire Emblem Awakening :P

    • lolque

    • Kynbros

      Not as well known maybe?

      • MrJechgo

        Pokémon, NOT well known? Suuuuuuuuuuuure

  • Kaetsu

I still don’t have an external hard drive for my Wii U yet. I guess I’ll have to get one soon.

  • Γεώργιος Αρχαιοκαπηλίδης

I should expect that from a company who is stingy enough to include a fucking power adapter in 3DS XL’s package. Well, at least it’s free.

  • Ying

I wish it would be a physical disc over here as well, but oh well. I hope I still have enough memory in my Wii U to be able to download it without an external hardrive
