Star Ocean makers tri-Ace are currently working on Phantasy Star Nova, an upcoming PlayStation Vita game that borrows elements from Phantasy Star Online. We previously got some details on the game’s setting, and this time, a little look at the game’s character creation feature.

According to the commentator, the character shown is a female Newman character with a class that has already been chosen for her. Since this is still a sneak peek, they won’t be showing the other classes and races just yet.

There are many similarities from what we’ve seen in Phantasy Star Online 2, but Phantasy Star Nova also has its own unique features… in addition to the “boob physics” they chuckle about in the video.

At 0:55 in the video, they show the first difference between Nova and Phantasy Star Online 2, as the latter has a graph-like system for character creation touch-ups, while we get to see a more traditional adjustment bar in the video.

They follow up with a look at some different hairstyles and color customizations. Certain parts of the equipment can also have their colors changed. At 3:15, they show a peek at some of the body shape customizations and adjustment possibilities.

Additionally, they also shared the full version of the earlier trailer that showed us how the story for Phantasy Star Nova begins.

Phantasy Star Nova will be released in 2014 for PlayStation Vita.

    Can’t wait

  • Keine

    Please localise…

  • DanijoEX ♬ the Cosmic Owl

I’m just dying to wait for this game to come out. And the character customization is just about as good as anything.

  • Cheesy12

Sega baby, don’t hurt me no more ;(

  • AlphaSixNine

    Please SEGA… :(

  • jellyicexd

I used to be excited over this game but now all of that excitement has been flushed down the toilet. If SEGA can’t even provide us with proper information about PSO2 instead of constantly telling us that it’s still delayed then there’s little chance that Nova will get localised. Ah oh well. Goodbye Phantasy Star, I’ll miss you.

    • Duo Maxwell

Well, they have the proper English version for the Asia market, so I guess it’s just a matter of how profitable they are seeing the NA market.

      • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

I think they said that they wanted to get Japan market settled before moving on, and since they have move on to Asia next would have to be the West.
It is likely quite the undertaking considering a MMO from a company that doesn’t really do many of them. Square-Enix is same way with Dragon Quest X (though they been with Final Fantasy MMOs for a long time!)

    • MaximDualBlade

They are 2 separate games, so the chances are as good as PSO2. Which indeed are very bad XD I believe this game could come over if Sony or Atlus does something about it. Not this year of course XD 2015, sounds feasible. Its either that or never with this game.

      • jellyicexd

Yeah, I agree. However, I kinda doubt Sony or Atlus will do anything to help out and I don’t think we’ll be seeing this game release outside Japan. It would be great to see it localised but I’d rather see PSO2 out in the west before this game flies over. Yes, they are two separate games but the way they’re handling PSO2 right now…I think Nova will most likely suffer from the same treatment. Seriously, screw SEGA.

        • MaximDualBlade

I want both honestly XD they seem like they will be different games in the same universe.
Also Tri Ace is developing it, so that’s good plus for me.

I can wait for this game until December 2015 XD After that I will lose hope and move on.

          • jellyicexd

December 2015 LOL. Man, I’d probably be interested in other games and would’ve lost interest in the franchise by then. I wanna be optimistic and hope for PSO2 and Nova to get localised but the future seems kind of bleak for the series outside Japan. :/

I’m actually tempted to bombard their Facebook and Twitter accounts with questions.

          • MaximDualBlade

On the contrary. Its because I have other games that interest me that I can wait until that date.

No, don’t bother, they don’t read that stuff man.

    • dboyz

judging from the way how sony handles Vita….I could say sayonara to localization ! T.T

  • Duo Maxwell

I’ve prepared my sock. A letter that wish for the Phantasy Star Nova localization. Will Santa come this Christmas?

  • Altin

I will probably import this. Hope to see more gameplay.

  • Bigabu Beaze

We need this game over here in the west! SEGA hear my call!

    • Victor Wesker

You may try make petition for localization.

      • ChristyKf9

They already flat out said that they had no interest in releasing it overseas.Plus aren’t there already like 6 petitions for other SEGA games, 2 of which are also Phantasy Star games and have been going on for well over 2 years now.

        • Renaldi Saputra

there’re petitions for sega games? with how many supporters?

          • ChristyKf9

IDK know. The first one had like 50,000 signitures and of course was shot down. Someone else started another one in later 2012 that died with 100, and another person started on in 2013 but that only reached like 500.

          • Renaldi Saputra

I never seen any PSO2 petition with 50k petitions, just around 100-2000 numbers on change.org
            maybe another site?

          • ChristyKf9

It wasn’t on change.org they directly sent it to SEGA from their own website that has since shut down in 2012. It was for them to Localize PSP2i and PSO2.

The change stuff I didn’t even bother paying attention to because I realized SEGA Japan didn’t care. There was also a letter sent to SEGA Japan to have them stop IP blocking international players and people with translation patches but seeing as how so many international players are in now I’m guessing that one worked or they just went lax on them (again stop paying attention due to lack of relevant news updates).

          • Renaldi Saputra

for the IP Blocking, i’m sure that Asiasoft is the one behind this all, SEGA Japan are the innocent one, they just agreed the contract in order to popularize PSO2 in SEA region.
You know games that being handled by Asiasoft always do IP blocking

          • ChristyKf9

            True.

  • Victor Wesker

PS Nova, sounds like PlayStation Nova or like PSN.

    • Draparde

I have a feeling Sega does that on purpose. the other portable game series had PSP as its initials

      • http://k-hermann.deviantart.com/?rnrd airman4

        hahahaha
The sequel of Phantasy star nova will be Phantasy star X (okay…)

  • Thatguy

Chances of localization… Yeah, right, i’ll stop here, put your knives down, people!

  • http://www.segalization.com/ Kuronoa

There’s still time since the game isn’t even out yet, I would hope Sony helps with it.

  • Kornelious

Man this game looks really good! Hopefuly and I mean HOPEFULLY……Sega will localize this, though they seem to have a fear of localizing anything people want and that isn’t Sonic :(

    • Zazon Zenzy

… and what isn’t Miku. It’s nice to have Miku games, but you know what’s more important? Phantasy Star games.

      • Kornelious

It’s as if they are purposely ignoring the Phantasy Star fans in the west even after all our asking….Thay probally decided to localize Phantasy Star Online 2 and then realized that it wasn’t Sonic/Miku/Mediocore and scraped it…

I swear after missing out on PSP2 infinity an Online 2 I am gonna be REALLY pissed if they don’t localize this >:(

        • Kumiko Akimoto

It’s like they’ve never given us a console phantasy star game before you people are being silly.

          • Kornelious

It;s not that it just seems that Sega doesn’t care for Phantasy Star in the west ANYMORE……And it just sucks because phantasy star is a really cool franchise :(

          • Kumiko Akimoto

It’s not like it won’t come and it’s not like it wasn’t announced, they’ve only released a mmo so far.

    • http://k-hermann.deviantart.com/?rnrd airman4

      they better be

      more sales for them

I want my cartdrige of phantasy star ocean

    • ChristyKf9

SEGA already said they have to plans to localize this game period. They didn’t even try to play off their usual “no plans at this movement at this moment” or in “the near future” thing btu never release it like Phantasy Star Portable 2 Ininfity and PSO2.

      • Kornelious

JEEZ your a dream crusher :(

        • ChristyKf9

I gave up on them after PSO2 it’s better to have low expectations now than be disappointed in them again later.

    • Brandon Artist Carr

Ok lets be serious, one SEGA NA is focused on nothing but sonic and probably doesn’t even look at what their fans want, and another thing, by the time PSO2 NA releases we’re all gonna be playing something else or even on a better server. all i could say is that their just waiting till sega JP is done or just sleeping thinking about other games that we give no craps for.. so do yourself a favor and play PSO2 JP, get a patch and play it because it doesnt matter if it releases or not, PSO2 JP is way better than what SEGA NA may or may never have in a few years. believe me.. its worth it..

      Just giving my mind- mezzing

  • MaximDualBlade

Come on Sony! Have some pride and publish this game overseas. We have brave publishers like Xseed bringing us 2 Senran Kagura games.

The game looks like it will be good material and its exclusive for your handheld.

This is assuming Sega lets Sony publish it XD I have no idea about that vital piece of information XD

    • Renaldi Saputra

XSeed won’t have a right to localize a Sega exclusive game bcos Sega will refuse to do it

well, Sega USA only care of sonic, and possibly miku

      • MaximDualBlade

        reread the comment

        • Renaldi Saputra

          I already reread it
          sorry my bad

          • MaximDualBlade

np. I am also sure that Sega would never let Xseed handle this game’s localization. Its up to Sony honestly or Atlus because apparenly they can now legally do it without problems. Or better yet, just explode my brain and let Sega do it XD I really don’t expect, so it would be effective XD

  • TheManWithPants

This game looks pretty cool, too bad it probably won’t get localized…
Seriously, this sums up how Sega treats its fans:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZRGhfnIzFY

    • Kornelious

There is a time where the fans must stand up for what they truly desire……But that day is not today because I don’t want Sega to hit me again :(

  • Tenabrus

I won’t care unless this game comes out overseas.

  • Takane Shijou

It also shares the same similarity in the fact that it’ll never come to the West.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    ….neat…..*waiting*

    • Virevolte

Yes, I am. My friends call me Vivi too. =(

  • eilegz

still waiting for pso2, psp2 infinity both for vita….

  • Slickyslacker

    “a female Newman”?

    • http://resettears.wordpress.com/ Reset Tears

“Nova. Nova! We’ve got Nova here! … Nobody cares.”

  • natchu96

So even after their ship crashes they’re still cheerfully and nonchalantly unloading supplies, and it takes a mountain-sized blastoise that shoots missiles to invoke a reaction?

These people seem really legit. (too bad we’ll never meet them in the West)

    • http://k-hermann.deviantart.com/?rnrd airman4

      wat ??

anyway i love the karate girl hahah
the trailer also was so good , we need gameplay !

  • Renaldi Saputra

the irony, if SEGA USA will say to us “we’re still in development on bringing phantasy star nova to the western region. so we will inform any upcoming updates as soon as we know!” 3 years later

    • ChristyKf9

Except SEGA Japan already stated they have no plans on having this game released overseas. SEGA of America has no power other than the making of a new Sonic game.

      • Renaldi Saputra

SEGA USA said so for PSO2, saying they still delay the game but insisting that they’re bringing it to western region.

the irony is, SEGA did said that a few days ago, also 2 years ago, the same words

        • ChristyKf9

How many times have they delayed PSO2 in the US? And that was a game that they announced would be released here.

          • Renaldi Saputra

they said that they will bring PSO2 to western region about 2 years ago in a conference IIRC
and now…. just look at it

  • ViSyne

Thank god the Vita is region free.

  • http://hatintime.com/ ShadowFang

I will be so pissed if THIS comes west, but Sega keeps ignoring Phantasy Star Online 2, you guys….

  • Shady Shariest

    SEEEEEEEEGAAAAAA…
    Destroying your hopes since…

Would really like to play a Phantasy Star game sometime :/
Sadly it seems that i’ll learn Russian and Japanese before/if this gets localized =_=

  • Blaz

Enlarge their breasts. That’s the option most gamers need most.

  • Vash bane

don’t have a nico account I couldn’t see vid. I didn’t know in this game they would put character creation in that’s cool
