Xbox One Will Launch With 29 Titles In Japan

Microsoft will bring Xbox One to Japan on September 4. The console will be accompanied by 29 games, most of which were launch titles in North America. It’s interesting to see last year’s series titles like Call of Duty: Ghosts on the list instead of the upcoming Call of Duty game and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag from Ubisoft.

Tecmo Koei will release their Warriors games for Xbox One starting with Warriors Orochi 3: Ultimate and Konami is backing the system with Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Recent Konami games like Metal Gear Solid: Revengance skipped Xbox 360 entirely.

    Why bother………

    • sunK1D

Simple really; Microsoft got money to waste.

    • Warboss Aohd

      Because they aren’t quitters?

    • samsneeze

I don’t honestly think anyone can fault them for trying. They just have to remain consistent with it this time around, is all.

    • leingod

If it wasn’t Microsoft, I’d say they genuinely care about their few fans in Japan.

  • Luckeh

The new COD and AC don’t come out until later in the year, so why would they come out earlier in japan?

    • shuyai

Both COD ghost and AC4 black flag is out for a while, they are not the new one

      • Luckeh

From the article: “It’s interesting to see last year’s series titles like Call of Duty: Ghosts on the list instead of the upcoming Call of Duty game”

        • shuyai

wait what? i guess i misread abit but what you mean by “so why would they come out earlier in japan?” there is nothing about the new COD/AC ‘s release date on japan

  • roockie112

is Xbox even popular in japan?

    • Dede Ogbe

nope, it literally sells a couple of hundred units a week, whilst the ps3 sells usually above 10,000 a week. Even the psp and Wiiu is kicking the crap out of the thing.

  • LordHyper

Considering that main consoles are already facing a decline in Japan as it is, combined with Microsoft’s less than stellar appeal in Japan considering the Xbox 360, this seems like a lost cause.

  • Gasarocky

A small correction, it should be “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” not “Solid”

  • Bob Slim

Delete my comment for no reason Its not like I bash Microsoft jeez. They wont sell well in Japan thats all I bet you delete this too lol

    • Altin

“Thou shall not speak ill of any news, regarding any company on this website. Thou shall only write about love and rainbows.”

      • Bob Slim

Oh really now no wonder lol

    • wez

It probably won’t sell, but it would be awesome if it would! that’s what japan needs to push companies their to make higher end games!

    • Landale

I’m looking at what moderation has been done. You have zero deleted posts, anywhere on the site. If posts of yours are missing, it’s because Disqus fucked up somewhere. It happens, a lot.
Don’t try to derail things to complain like this either. You’re complaining more about moderation that never happened than you are saying anything about the article.

      • Bob Slim

Well what ever dont even care anymore

  • >Recent Konami games like Metal Gear Solid: Revengance skipped Xbox 360 entirely.

This is just flat out false, I have no idea where the author even got this idea because ground zeroes was on 360 as well.

    • mikanko

It never had an Xbox 360 release in Japan.

  • Hexodious

Horrible line up, there are a few games I know for sure the Japanese audience will buy almost instantly. Blackflag is one of them, but it won’t have that much impact either way. Well, only time will tell. I have a feeling that the Xbox One will have the similar overall effect as the Xbox 360 in Japan.

    • darke

The thing is, like the PS4, it’s mostly crossplats. The problem is the PS4 will have been on the market for 7 months before this comes out, so people will have likely bought and played them on the PS4 or PC already if they were after a ‘current gen’ experience.

Not to mention that most of the XB1-only titles are pretty light on the English, so the bare-bones English the Japanese get taught should be more then enough to deal with an imported XB1.

I know MS feels they need to release it so they at least can pretend to compete, but it just feels depressing more then anything. :(

  • Kurt Wagner

If this was a Japanese product with no chance at large market success coming to the west people would be praising their daring. I’m sure there are likewise Japanese gamers looking forward to getting their ‘niche’ games.

  • Guest

Good, they have a better lineup than Sony did with the PS4.

    • ishyg

Yep, that lineup totally screams “Japan”.

They have a better lineup than Sony, but that’s because Sony arrived earlier. Most of those titles are out now in the US.

  • Kornelious

I fear that a lack of Japanese titles won’t bode well for Microsoft…..

  • Robert Hendrie

“Konami: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes” Yes looks like I can finally play GZ!

  • Paul Rodriguez

Pretty lackluster lineup. The time spent waiting to release the console in Japan should have been used to get some original exclusive games at launch. Too many multi-console games. There isn’t much on the launch list that says buy me.

  • kftgr

Lackluster line-up? Yes, but part of that is because we’ve already played a lot of them (I’ve got 11 of the listed titles myself.) But you don’t buy a console just for the launch games. There are tons of great games just around the corner.

It’d be great if Siliconera could find the Japanese release dates of the games that are coming out in Sept and Oct for NA/EU. Remember, the Japanese XB1 comes with Kinect and a failing for us was that there were no worthy Kinect games to justify the peripheral. However, the JP release will get Kinect Sports Rivals, and if localization doesn’t take long, Dance Central Spotlight (September) and Fantasia (October) — both highly anticipated games.

  • Aw sweet! Hope Japan appreciates year-old SKU’s of games released for other platforms as much as the rest of the world does – it worked so well for the Wii U’s launch year!

Oh, and it’s cool to see MS learn from Sony’s western-heavy PS4 lineup here too. That totally worked for them! /s

Oh well. All I hope for is that Japanese gamers check out games like Powerstar Golf more than western games – feel bad for Zoe Mode. It’s like they worked on this great, colorfull, charming Hot Shots/Mario Golf-esque game specifically for Microsoft, and MS doesn’t give one sh– about it. Maybe if it had head-shots in it, they’d care more….
