Meet Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire’s Mega Sableye

By Ishaan . June 20, 2014 . 1:02pm

Mega Sableye will make its debut in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, and The Pokémon Company have shared further information on the creature on the games’ official website. Here’s his profile:

Sableye has concentrated all of the energy from its Mega Evolution into the red jewel on its chest, which increases in size and detaches from its body. This enlarged jewel boasts incredible hardness, and it is said that no attack can even make a scratch on it!

When Sableye Mega Evolves, its Defense and Sp. Attack stats both get big boosts. Its Speed stat does decrease slightly, perhaps because of the weight of its huge jewel. Thanks to its Magic Bounce Ability, any moves that affect only stats or status conditions will be bounced back at its attacker.

Mega Sableye will retain its Dark/Ghost element type. Just how and where you’ll find the Mega Evolution stone required to evolve Sableye is unknown, though.

Now the hope is that the stats buffed in a good way because 480 base stat total isnt alot for a mega but we will see when the game comes out. Especially since it gets prankster’s effects before it megas.

    • LastFootnote

Its Speed goes down, so that’s a very good sign. All points lost from Speed are redistributed into other stats.

      • JustAPrinny

Yes this is a very good sign because it is already sluggish to begin with so lowering its speed is better then trying to increase it. I just hope gamefreak doesn’t anything really dumb with the speed loss for higher other stats.

But as far as I can tell this is going to be interesting mega because of prankster for normal form and magic bounce in mega form. It will be cool if done correctly.

        • LastFootnote

Agreed. I’m not worried about a really terrible stat distribution. All the other Mega Evolutions have had appropriate ones. Just look at Mega Mawile. I’m not sure I could have distributed that 100 points better if I tried.

Also, what COULD they even put the points into that wouldn’t be good? Attack, I guess. Probably they’ll put a bunch into SpDef, though.

I do kind of wish that Mega Sableye got some sort of unique, more powerful Ability. But as Abilities go, Magic Bounce is pretty great.

  • The Watcher

Sableye is already a force to begin with. This mega seems highly unnecessary and OP

    • kaotron

I’d rather face a high defense wall with magic bounce than an annoying and broken prankster…

Magic bounce is only good if used on someone who relies on setup moves/stat conditions while prankster is broken in multiple ways.

    • Pinkemon

It doesn’t seem that bad to me. While magic bounce is a great ability the description of the stat changes imply that it won’t get a significant special defense boost, meaning that it’s still weak in that area and now it won’t even have a priority recover to help it out. It also has no attack boost to make its sucker punch stronger to offset the low speed. It looks like they’re giving him a different playstyle by trying to make him into another bulky trick room mega like with Mega Ampharos.

  • Landale

Magic Bounce is nice I suppose. Was really hoping for Wonder Guard though, it would have been glorious.

    • LastFootnote

I’m guessing the point behind Magic Bounce is to force opponents to actually attack Mega Sableye directly, so it can more easily make use of e.g. Metal Burst and Sucker Punch.

Similarly, Mega Absol seems to be designed as the ultimate Me First user, with Magic Bounce and huge increases in Attack, SpAtk, and Speed.

    • That would have been exceptionally troll-worthy if that was the case.

      • Landale

Troll-worthy, but not practically impossible to deal with like it would have been several games back. It has a weakness now, there are multiple ways to change it’s type and/or ability, or just ignore the ability in the first place.

        • It wouldn’t be impossible, no, but it would force more of a fairy use to counter ‘just in case this is here’ which would be a bad thing.

Wouldn’t affect me, though. I keep a [Mega] Gardevoir to eat those for breakfast.

        • Just Tim

Hidden Power Steel, perhaps? Metal Burst? I haven’t been keeping up to the pace I’d like to, with real life priorities.

  • TheGioG

There was always something I loved about Sableye back in the Gameboy Advance days. Dark and Ghost types were always a favorite. Never would’ve though I’d be falling in love all over again…

  • MaidKillua

Magic bounce isn’t too bad but it could have been better. Though it also could have been broken so let’s just be glad it didn’t go that way

  • Niyari

less pranksters there are, the better

  • Catnipcookie

That last image… It looks like the shadow of The Big Red Monster from Bug’s Bunny cartoons.

  • exrazer

The jewel is actually the pokemon.

    • Two Syndras, One Athene’s

      Dun dun DUUUUNN

  • SlickRoach

I was thinking maybe this version of Mega-Sableye is exclusive to Omega Ruby and maybe they’ll make one holding a giant Sapphire instead and maybe a different ability and stats in Alpha Sapphire.

    • kliskur

Sableye is not that special to be given such treatment. Most likely it will be the same as the original game, Sableye is sapphire exclusive and following the trend in XY, version exclusive Pokemon’s mega stone will be in the other version.

  • Kamakuma

I love how everyone is talking about new strategies and such but I’m sitting here being a derp who sends out random pokemans even if they are badly typed and matched. :’3

    • Vash bane

      lol so boss

  • wububu

The increase in Sp. Attack is very odd, but hey Game freak strikes again. The ability is good, and it is great to have a bulky magic bounce user for a change.

  • Ruins72

    Laziest mega design ever >.>
    Yes, lazier than Khanga

  • lyhthegreat .

    so no more prankster??

    • James Grimswolf

Not once you mega evolve it… but I’m betting some clever players are going to figure out ways to use a prankster Sableye and a carefully timed mega evolution. Though, tying magic bounce to a mega evolution loses one of its cool tricks: the ability to switch in to status moves, even stealth rock, and surprise your opponent as they get bounced back.
