Activision Letting Fans Vote On The Legend of Korra Game’s Digital Art

By Ishaan . June 26, 2014 . 8:30am

Earlier in the week, it was revealed that PlatinumGames are working on a Legend of Korra game for PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The game is being published by Activision and will be released as a download title this fall.

The game is an brawler where you use Korra’s mastery over martial arts and the elements as part of her combos. The game will also feature her polar bear-dog, Naga, who will be used in “high-speed” traversal segments.

Meanwhile, a separate game with a similar story will be released for the Nintendo 3DS, and this one will be a strategy RPG that sees a retail-only release.

Activision have released the first screenshots of the console Korra game and are currently allowing fans to vote on the game’s digital “box art”. You can vote for that over on the series’ Facebook page.

    Digital box art? Yeah right.

  • Namuro

Ah, I was wondering when Siliconera will be posting this. Quite a surprising news indeed.

Looking forward to seeing the PlatinumGames-treatment on this game!

Replace Bending with Jutsu and essential a similar yet viable gameplay mechanic.

    no WiiU release ? :(

      No Vita as well…

    RULES OF KORRA

  • neocatzon

The screenshots looks great, can’t wait for gameplay trailer.

  • AuraGuyChris

So Activision is like Ubisoft and doesn’t believe the Wii U is worthy of this licensed video game.

    How times have changed.

  • charles addow

wished they used more color with the boxart, that all white korra just sticks out in a bad way imo. Should accept fan cover art if you really want to ge our input.

  • Spirit Macardi

I haven’t seen anything Avatar related in forever, but I’ll totally get this simply because it’s Platinum.

I mean, they managed to take something as boring and overblown as Metal Gear and managed to make an awesome cyberpunk action game out of it. Making a good licensed game should be easy in comparison x3

  • z_merquise

It’s so nice that Platinum Games is getting a lot of work from different publishers lately.

Even if I haven’t watched Avatar or Legend of Korra, I’m so interested to see more of this game. It’s also interesting to see PG working on a licensed franchise and I look forward to see how they can add some of their own touches in this one.

  • Byas

Two of the screenshots look ok for a download-only PS360 game and the other two look like a PS2 game… I have faith in Platinum’s gameplay department but I really hope this is an early alpha and the graphics are better when released. Releasing it like this on PS4/One would be sad.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

everything but the Wii-u…nice… and the 3DS version is going to be a SRPG pass…W/E Its going to be epic

  • ZetaSiren

So a beautiful Japanese game developer working on a fantastic north american property, man this is awesome!

    • Warboss Aohd

and with no flanderized anime personalities to be seen.

  • http://www.spaghetti.com Kaisenex

too bad korra isnt that great…

    • ninjabart122

It wasn’t awful, but I kept feeling nicknaming the MC “Hardkorra” because of her edgy attitude.

      • ShadowDivz

        I liked edgy Korra.
I didn’t like her doing the typical “MY BOYFRIEND DOESN’T UNDERSTAND ME” shtick.

Seeing avatar one was freaking awesome though.

    • TheSegaMan

I thought season one was fantastic. It will never be as good as Avatar, but it was still a great follow up to the original show. But season two brought it down a few pegs and they made Korra really unlikable there for a while. Hopefully season three will be better.

    • Weeb

Pretty much the reason this is the first platinum game I’m skipping out on.

    • Warboss Aohd

      Season 1 was pretty great.

      Season 2…..not so much.

though from what i saw of the first 5 minutes, Season 3 is gonna be awesome.

  • doubleO7

So… the bigger budget, multiplat action game is DL-only on every console, while the lesser, handheld-exclusive strategy game is retail-only. I don’t understand their logic on this one :/

    • Ultimaniacx4

Way to talk before you have any info. How do you know the budgets and how do you know the handheld is the lesser one? Apparently the Platinum game is a short 4-5 hour action fix. And if the handheld is a strategy rpg then you can be sure the story is gonna be a lot longer.

      • Warboss Aohd

what’s the other game your talking about?

      • doubleO7

Its not hard to figure out. Length has nothing to do with quality. Sure, they’re both licensed TV show games, which is usually a recipe for mediocrity, but one is a console action game developed by Platinum, a company highly praised for making great action games.

The other, a handheld game developed by Webroot, a company that deals almost-exclusively with licensed shovelware games for Nintendo handhelds and PC. They did make a few decent DBZ games for GBA, but the rest of their portfolio includes such classics as The Biggest Loser (based on the reality show), My Little Pony (pre-FiM era), American Girl, and some random Majhong/Texas Hold ‘Em games.

Could they make a great Korra strategy game? Maybe so! I would certainly buy it if they do. But its clearly standing in its console brother’s shadow here. It’s even evident in the announcement:

        “Korra action game!”
        “Developed by Platinum!”
        “Vote on the cover art!”
        “Watch the trailer!”

And tacked on at the end? One sentence that basically says, “Oh, by the way, there’s also a 3DS game”

  • Paul Rodriguez

I would have been more interested if this was getting a physical release and voting was for the game’s box art. I’ll still consider getting this as Platinum has yet to disappoint me. Waiting to what the 3DS turn-based strategy game is like.

  • http://www.isfuturebright.com/ Silvio Carréra

Not that much interested in it but… OMG Platinum :D!!!

  • Kroz

Activision is publishing it!? Please give platinum the resources they need and not be stingy with their budget. I’m sure platinum can work their magic and fart something awesome out, but still.

    • antithesis

It’s a digital only. That should already say something about Activision’s confidence and budget.

    • Hentailover

Still, Kojima’s team complimented how efficient Platinum Games are and how fast they can whip up a working prototype… And that means cost efficiency. So, while I’m not expecting anything mind blowing, it’s not entirely unreasonable to expect something few tiers above your typical licensed games.

  • InsertOffensiveUsernameHere

Seeing this is a licensed game, I can only expect bad reviews.

    • Keiji Johnson

But seeing that it’s being developed by Platinum Games, this might prove otherwise.

  • Learii

I prefer Platinum Games over Activision

  • Pedro Rosas

I’m not a Korra fan, in fact I dislike her compared to the original Avatar, but since its Platinum games I might give it a try

  • DanteMasamune

    WHAT THE F*Ck!!!!

First, a Western publisher handing over a licensed Western TV series to a Japanese developer. Granted this may have happened before and I remember how Ubisoft used to have the right to produce and publish Naruto games and Atlus put out a few DBZ games (granted those were ass).

Second, Platinum Games!!!! PLATINUM GAMES!!!!! make a Legend of Korra game…didn’t see that happen.

Thirdly, the graphics look pretty good (well as far as cell shading go) it looks rather close to the show.

Lastly, it seems Activision has finally grew a brain/started caring about making sure their games outside CoD are of decent quality finally hiring a competent developer for their side games. Wouldn’t Korra to turn out well like TMNT.

    • Armane

I wish Platinum were working on a TMNT game instead of Legend of Bore-a.

  • David García Abril

Am I the only one who thinks those graphics are underwhelming?

Some screenshots look from PS2, for crying out loud!!

Come on, Platinum! You’re better than this!

    • ShadowDivz

A fun game is determined by fun gameplay.
      Not graphics.

Has Final Fantasy XIII taught us nothing?!

      • David García Abril

Still, considering that “Korra”‘s biggest asset is its jaw-dropping animation, and that Activision went out of their way to hire Platinum Games (which would point that they’re meaning business), you would think we would get something better than… this…

        http://www.siliconera.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/korra_03.jpg

FYI, FF XII is not the best example.

        • ShadowDivz

          Sorry i meant 13. Missed an “i”.

I will agree that the graphics are PS2 era. But platinum Games never disappoints on intuitive gameplay.

      • eilegz

its one of the best rpg of this generation and it was dumbed down thanks to the xbox 360….

    • Pepe da farmer

I agree with this guy. Considering Vanquish and MGR graphics, I really expected more. Maybe this is an early bulid? Anyway, as long as the gameplay has Platinum quality, I’m buying.

    • AkuLord3

You say that but it looks way better than what you see on Ps2…its only screenshots so you can’t judge yet

  • ShadowDivz

One of my favorite shows turned into a game by one of my favorite (and most creative) companies?

Where and how do i support this? Seriously, this is fantastic news.
Digital Only? So cheaper than retail? =D

  • Guest

You guys left out the best part: Platinum Games is helping make the game

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/25/platinum-games-the-legend-of-korra-coming-in-2014

  • MSJ

    Platinum, welp I’m sold

not the best screenshots, but so long as it has solid gameplay similar to Bayo and MGR, I will get this shit.

  • Alestaos

Art looks similar to the show which is a plus. Shame on download only that sucks, lets hope atleast theres a good story and depth to the system especially since theres 4 elements for Korra and the avatar state. Also if we get to play as other characters i hope that they keep there own style when bending in the game. Either way im stoke ^^

  • Göran Isacson

Ha ha ha holy shit these news.

I’ll be honest, I have no idea how to feel right now. Not gonna deny that it looks kinda B-budget, but if there ever was a company that could do magic with gameplay even if the graphics weren’t that tight, it would be Platinum. But on the other hand, it’s also a download only title that has Activision involvement. But again, it has Platinum developing it and it seems they really want fandom to get involved. There are just so many contradictory factors here that I have no idea where I want to go with this, in the end I can only hope that Platinum will be allowed to work their magic and that the action shall be plenty tight.

Also, because no one asked for it: Think of the cross-over potentials! LIke say, an Equalist attack leaves Asami’s company in ruins and Bolin and Pabu on the verge of death. They are only saved by having metal prostheses attached to them, but Bolin is a changed man by it all. The accident has left him hungry for revenge AND vengeance, and together with his new friend PBU-84i (who can turn into a buss-saw because science) they will get the vengeance they so richly crave!
    “It’s time for Nuck-Tuck… to get UN-STUCK.”
Then everyone just kinda squirms because even if Bolin is all dark and broody now he’s still incompetent at everything, cool lines included. Then Pabu accidentally turns into a buss-saz and cuts of his legs again.

Also Asami becomes a cigar-chomping, cynical badass bounty hunter with a mechanical chain-saw arm to make ends meet, UnaVatu is resurrected as part of an evil plot and is for some reason wearing a monocle and an albino peacock pigeon stole around his shoulders now, and in the final battle it turns out that Azula traveled through time to conquer the world while fused with a giant dragon because idk she’s so evil she can do that, so Korra has to fight her using a giant mecha version of herself which is piloted by a bunch of metal benders and given energy by the Avatar state, while Eska puts an icicle into her ranting fathers head and is all
“Don’t antagonize a woman with personality features often regarded as antagonistic and unpleasant.”
Meanwhile mecha-Bolin is fighting his brother who for some reason has become super-buff and also evil I guess?
“Why won’t the narrative acknowledge all the bad things you do?!”
“Writer’s Pet, Bo! They use me to live out their dreams, and turn a deaf ear in response to any criticism! Nobody can help you now!”
Que Asami showing up and shoving a chainsaw through Mako’s guts and being all:
“Good thing I don’t help people.”

I would have included a Vanquish reference too, but none came to mind except Tenzin dressed up with a giant mini-gun strapped to his arm and smoking a cigar, and that was just too awful to consider.
