Freedom Wars Designed By Shift, Programmed By Dimps

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Japan Studio producer Junichi Yoshizawa has posted some brief thoughts on Freedom Wars, which was released in Japan last week and is being released in North America later this year.

Freedom Wars is jointly developed by God Eater developer Shift and Dimps, who are known for developing games like Street Fighter IV the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai series. Yoshizawa explains how development was broken up between the two studios.

“These two developers both produce high-quality, interesting titles, but in this case I wanted to utilize both of their strengths,” he writes, “so I asked Shift to be in charge of game design, character design and story, while Dimps handled programming, graphics and direction.”

Sony also shared a story trailer for the game, which you can watch above.

Still waiting for that release date, Sony.
    Anytime now.
    Oh who am I kidding…
*goes to sit in a corner until the game is released*

  • Shippoyasha

Dimps is a heroic development team for sure. They don’t get any credit because people think a lot of games they make are Namco or Capcom internal teams.

    • Quite underappreciated. All I ever hear is hate after Sonic 4, but their good usually out-weighs their bad especially from Sonic titles.

      • TheManWithPants

Well, Sonic 4 and Lost World 3DS were pretty bad, yeah, but their other stuff is pretty damn good, so I agree. Even their older Sonic games, such as the Advance and Rush series were pretty good, if not the best handheld Sonic games to date. I feel that 4 and Lost World were kinda Rushed out, (*badum tss*) and they probably had lower budgets and less time to work with. I think it’s more to do with Sega treating their flagship franchise like shit, than anything else, really.

        • Shippoyasha

Advance and Rush arguably are some of the best Sonic games ever made.

    • TheCynicalReaper

I never heard of Dimps before. Poor guys. Real dev teams always deserve credit

  • Darkwing7

Looking for Release date and cool limited edition box

  • Curan_Altea

I’ve been paying this pretty much nonstop since it came out, and I have to say it’s quite fantastic. Really unique and fun. The different game types are really cool, and its the first game to make me love polearms.

The character design, art direction, music, and just overall style of it is great.

  • TheManWithPants

Looks really good! More reason for me to get a Vita sometime down the road.

  • Bob Slim

Its a shame the game wont be English dub still want it though

    • Duo Maxwell

Gonna quote this again from people who finished the game:

“Since the Japanese version uses vocal synthesizers for the voice acting of the Accessories and Proper-kun, and they actually use your created name in dialog, they’re pretty much bound to whatever synthesizer programs already exist, and licensing those out.

If you want to play around with some, this is the company Atlus Japan licensed synths from for the Japanese version of Catherine. Show was the narrator, Julie did the boss announcements, and Kate said “Edge” (which is still in the English version). 2/3 of these voices were replaced with actual actors in the English version. Not possible with Freedom Wars.

      • Bob Slim

I see no wonder thanks for the info

      • TheCynicalReaper

WOW! I didn’t know any of this. Good note, mate! Thanks

      • Audie Bakerson

Got to roll my eyes at how it’s SCEA that is releasing it though sub only though, considering how obsessed they are with forcing companies to dub games into English.

        • Duo Maxwell

That’s the thing at 2006 already. They have changed a long time ago. Yakuza games came out without any dub, you know.

  • Ric Vazquez

  • Pythia Brixham

The graphics kind of remind me of SMT 3 and Digital Devil Saga.

    • TheCynicalReaper

That’s part of the fun, yeah

  • Armageddon

wonder if they have a G version later on?

    • tubers

I think it’s likely with these kinds of games.

  • TheCynicalReaper

    …Too excited. It…it’s scaring me.
I-I’m sure it’ll be good and won’t turn out b-bad. I…I have to have HOPE!

btw Danganronpa 2 comes out this September so please throw some cash at it, everyone.

    • Mika Moreno

I plan to! I love Danganronpa, here’s hoping for Another Episode!

    • Vash bane

welp time to head to youtue to see some vids of it (I swear…I keep forgetting about this game lol) that second title you mention…don’t even know what it is XD so no money for thy D:

    • X_Bacon

I’d throw my entire wallet if it made it come sooner >_>

  • Zangetsu777

Freedom Wars should get a Limited Edition Console Bundle!

With a Silver Colored PSVITA Slim Console.

On the Rear Touch pad there should be a design of the Freedom Wars Logo, That Panopticon Symbol!

It should have a Digital Voucher for the game.

    An 8GB Memory Card.

And Possibly throw in some Limited Edition Headphones!

  • Vash bane

the story still interest me but … >.> …

yeah that’s probably it XD so to those who have played it how’s the customization and gameplay?

    • Duo Maxwell

Pretty fun, I guess? The general feedback has been positive so far, since it’s heavy on the story side unlike usual hunting games, and the gameplay is leaning to action game.

Customization, you can watch those vids since it’s will be faster. A special note is you can even customize your partner’s speech pattern and how they call you, since the game support vocal synthesizer.

  • MistahBlob

I’m throwing my money at the screen.. but nothing is happening.. :(

  • Rose Spinoza

Really wish they’d give us a release date already….

  • Every time I see more on Freedom Wars it only makes me want to play it more and more. I wonder what this “Great Transformation” will be like.
