Onimusha Tactics is headed to the Wii U Virtual Console, a rating on the Australian Classification Board reveals. This is a strategy RPG that was originally released for the Game Boy Advance.

Onimusha Tactics has not been given a release date by Capcom yet, but the publisher has announced a number of other Virtual Console games that will be released throughout the year.

This is definitely one of the lesser entries in the series, but if it comes to the US I’ll definitely get it if only to support the series.

Why Capcom cancelled this series in the first place is completely beyond me, but I want to see it come back. At least have an HD compilation or something.

    • Godmars

It wasn’t “canceled”. It was just made in the days when a title ran its creative course. There was nothing more new to tell with the series and the game mechanics at hand.

By what I heard there were plans for a fifth entry that took place during the Tokugawa shogunate. After all, there was the implication that Soki is still alive somewhere, which means Fortinbras may not be entirely gone either.

Even leaving that aside, the series introduced time travel in the third game which means there could be a branching timeline like in Zelda. And what about the Genma that appeared in present-day Paris? Did they simply go away?

From what I understand, Dawn of Dreams was supposed to be the start of a new chapter in Onimusha. They retired Samanosuke as a protagonist and were going to continue on with new characters. I’m not sure what it was that made Capcom stop, though, whether it was sales or reception to the new direction of what. From an outside perspective, it’s impossible to say.

there was plenty to tell since they could have kept this series going for while but like crapcom lately they decided to stop more than one series and then not release anything decent.

It did always surprise me that Capcom just sort of stopped making Onimusha games. I think it’s due for a reboot.

      • disgaea36

yup just like breath of fire and some of its other grand series. capcom can go lick a sum booty

  • Luis Camargo

I would love for Capcom to make a new Onimusha game or at least a HD Collection of the four titles.

  • SetzerGabbiani

This game had the unfortunate fate of coming out after Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis. It had its charms, but I didn’t enjoy it much.

  • Only one I don’t have.

  • Kaetsu

Outside of Hideki Kamiya saying he liked this game(on twitter), I’ve never heard of it but since it’s an SRPG I’ll definitely check it out.

  • Michael Synodis

That game is so bland. Boring easy and slow also describe it.

      The term is subtle

    missed Oboro ^^

I know that most disliked this game, but I liked it quite a lot(Maybe because I love the world of Onimusha). The thing is, you shouldn’t be expecting a “hardcore” Strategy RPG, this is like a… “noob friendly” SRPG, back attacks don’t offer any bonuses, there’s no such things as classes, you can replay the level you are in to farm experience until you are ready to go on, Random chance for Issen on your turn, etc.
Although I remember having some trouble on some levels due to magic-using enemies being severely overpowered.
Ah well, for any Onimusha fan it’s worth a try, the connection to Onimusha 2 was used as a selling point, but the three characters(Ekichi, Magoichi and the Ninja kid(Can’t believe I got at least two out of the three names xD!) barely mentioned anything related to the last game.

  • It’s a weird world where Onimusha Tactics hits the GBA VC before Final Fantasy Tactics (Advance).

Oh this game! I actually own and BEAT this game (Even got the Secret Character.)

This is a good game that i wish had a sequel to it.

I’m so in love with gba games coming to Wii u vc -_-
