Nintendo Will Be Livestreaming Again From Comic-Con

By Ishaan . July 21, 2014 . 10:00am

As reported earlier in the month, Nintendo will be hosting a Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS tournament at the San Diego Comic-Con this year. In addition to the tournament, the publisher also plans to run a two-day livestream from the show.

On July 25th and 26th, Nintendo will be streaming from Comic-Con via their Twitch channel. Here’s how they describe their livestream:

On July 25 and July 26, Nintendo will stream Nintendo Challenge Live, a stage show hosted from the Nintendo Gaming Lounge that features intense tournament competition and awesome game-play challenges from some of the hottest upcoming games on Nintendo platforms. Fans can open their browsers to to catch all of the action and stick around for hours to soak in all the festivities.

That doesn’t sound as ambitious as Nintendo’s E3 Treehouse Live event, so we’d advise not getting your hopes up for anything beyond gameplay footage. The games scheduled to appear at Nintendo’s booth include those listed below. Just how many of these will be on the livestream remains to be seen.

  • Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

    streaM nintEndo … sTage … fROm … Intense… arounD…

    Get hyped!

    • HL3 confirmed?

      • doubleO7

HL3 for Wii U with unlockable Metroid costumes confirmed? O.o

      • Stephen Mc Devitt

        sosoaaosafdsnsfdadgamasfmdsakmdkdfs nkcsncksncdsakdjxdndsa-

  • Hmm and they said they’ll have “surprises” for smash bros.

  • MadokaXHomura

I want to see a hidden announcement of Pokken Fighter.which probably wont happen.

  • DeAndre Atchison

Calling it now. They are showing like 4 new fighters

  • Stephen Mc Devitt

If there’s a Q&A, someone please ask if the villains will be playable! I can’t stress this enough for us to have playable villains. Zant, Ghirahim and ol’ Ganon himself.

    • Busted

Obviously they will this a musou game, EVERYONE IS PLAYABLE! *points at cucco”

  • Kornelious

hopefully we will get more Smash fighters announced….Perhaps that one character we’ve been waiting for? :D

    • DeAndre Atchison

Has game and watch been confirmed?

      • doubleO7

No, not officially. Just the tease in Pac-Man’s reveal trailer, which they’ve already said people shouldn’t read too much into. I’d be pretty surprised if he doesn’t make it back though.

    • AuraGuyChris

      Oh yes! Ness!

    • Hinataharem

  • AuraGuyChris

Huh. I thought they weren’t going to show SSB4 for Wii U.

    • KoRLumen

      Huh? How come?

      • AuraGuyChris

It just felt weird they’re doing a 3DS tourney version instead of another Wii U tourney with the game. Well, at least to me it looked weird.

        • doubleO7

Well, they already did a Wii U tourney. Makes sense that they’d want to bring attention to both versions of the game with official tournaments.

        • HarakiriKami

Comic Con is a consumer show.

E3 is a trade show. E3 is about hyping up the future of your platform. Comic Con is about whats coming out RIGHT NOW.

Hence the games they’re showing on this list and the 3DS tournament.
          And the bayonetta film screening

  • fairysun

And my productivity level on July 25th will go down …

  • Junko Enoshima

Stream has the letter R in it…Ridley starts with the letter R…

    • Thomaz Barros

      You have to go deeper

The M in stream means MASSIVE

As in Ridley is too MASSIVE/Big for Smash

      • Scourge626

Scaling down a character that’s bigger than everyone else, yeah they’ve never done that before.

        • Jrocy247

Yea, especially if it’s a character who’s size has been inconsistent throughout the ENTIRE series and keeps going from big to small..

          • Aidan Gamble

Olimar is canonically less than an inch tall, and none of the Kirby characters are even a foot tall (Kirby has gone from ~5 inches to ~7 iirc)

  • Eder García

    what? no Splatoon?

    • idrawrobots

I doubt they have the room for multiplayer. And I doubt they wan to debut the single player at Comic-con. But I feel ya.

  • So what’s the big deal with this smash bros game? I haven’t liked fighting games since I was 12. Will it truly bring about enlightenment if I blow $60 on it, or is it the same blurry, frantic which-one-am-I-again game I played for 8 minutes on N64?

    • Kalis Konig

Well if you played it for only 8 minutes you really should not have such a negative opinion on the game lol. But Smash is a top quality game in all aspects. It is hard to actually find someone who can claim the franchise to be horrible without coming up with some petty reason. Like all things, it is best you try it yourself. However if you are a gamer, there are certain games you owe it to yourself to try. Smash is one of those games.

    • HarakiriKami

Because it controls like a dream, its fun as hell and there’s so much attention to detail in the games. In every aspect of it.

Smash’s appeal is that its a living, breathing museum of video game history under the guise of a unique fighting game. There’s no other game quite like it mechanically , as all “smash clones” dont want to get called “smash clone” so they just take the idea of a 2D arena platform fighters and just put in whatever gimmicks they think sets their game apart.

And its usually chock full of options. So yeah. people love smash

  • Death Saved

    No Xenoblade X?

    Me so sad );

    • That’s a huge game. Let Monolith keep working on it and not waste their time coming up with demos and other show-worthy previews every few weeks during “convention season”. Believe me; coming up with a demo is a pain in the butt that saps resources. They’re hardly worth it when a game is in full production.

Not to mention, if history is repeating itself, I’m certain the Monolith is being called up to do outsourcing on The Legend of Zelda Wii U or the next 3DS one. That studio contributed to both Skyward Sword and Link Between Worlds so EAD could get them finished in a timely manner. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re helping Aonuma again on the ambitious Wii U game.

I wouldn’t expect it to see it again until next year, personally. Nintendo usually skips TGS, and even IF it shows there, I’d imagine it would be the E3 stage demo.

      • Aidan Gamble

At E3 the Treehouse pretty much just played the actual game starting from the beginning, they obviously haven’t spent any time making custom demos

    • Adrian Duran

      wait for TGS

also we might get SMT X FE

      also can’t wait for Gamescom

      • HarakiriKami

Nintendo doesnt go to tokyo shit show. Nothing’s even there these days

  • Hoping to see more from Sonic Boom – still need to be convinced of that one. I mean, it’s clearly going to be a quality game – the ex-Naughty Dog DNA is clear. But it just doesn’t look like a good SONIC game. It looks like yet another modern brawling platformer, a la Legend of Spyro, Knack, the LEGO games, Disney Universe, Spare Parts, Sonic Unleashed, Crash of the Titans, Skylanders, etc.

I don’t get why devs are so intent on completely moving away from exploration, mini-games and puzzles like 3D platformers of the late 90’s-mid 00’s in favor of mindlessly pounding on enemies. It really looks like Sonic Boom was another game, and when BigRedButton pitched it to Sega, Sega asked them to make it a Sonic game. The “speed stages” seem awkwardly shoehorned in – at E3, they even had a version of their speed stage demo without final lighting!

    Bad lighting: (0:06 ~ 0:50)
It’s all green and murky, with little background detail. All the environmental textures look muddy, because the lighting is flat)

    How it’s supposed to look: (0:17 ~ 2:04)

There’s the sunshine and bright colors, and the ocean with islands in the background. You can see shadows, highlights, reflections, etc. Shaders are turned on and the lighting is done.

That says those levels were BARELY ready to show. The running stages. In a SONIC GAME. Were the things they had to rush to show people. *ugh*

Sanzaru’s 3DS game looks a lot better. I just want BigRedButton’s Wii U game to be great, because it looks so good (when it’s lit properly), and co-op games are always fun.

    • Huh. Never thought of any of it that way. I am also hoping for the best for Boom though and looking forward to it. I’m certainly going to be remembering what you said whenever I see anything about it though.

  • hazelnut1112
