Hyrule Warriors Has Costumes From Ocarina of Time And Skyward Sword, Too

By Ishaan . July 23, 2014 . 11:50pm

Koei Tecmo previously revealed that Hyrule Warriors will include additional DLC costumes depending on which version of the game you buy in Japan. Today, they revealed a few more of these outfits on the game’s official website.

As previously reported, the standard, Premium and Treasure Box versions of Hyrule Warriors all come with a “Courage” costume set. This set contains three costumes for Link—one from Twilight Princess, one from Skyward Sword and one from Ocarina of Time. It looks as though Link’s character model changes slightly with each.

Additionally, we also have the full list of costumes that will be exclusive to both the Premium and Treasure Box versions of the game. These two versions will contain the “Wisdom” costume set for Zelda. Once again, this includes her outfits from Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time.

The final costume set, which is the “Power” set, will be exclusive to the Treasure Box version of the game, and hasn’t been revealed yet. Theoretically, this should pertain to Ganondorf, although he hasn’t been revealed as a playable character in the game yet.

Hyrule Warriors will be released in Japan on August 14th.

Nice to see Soul Calibur 2 link / Oot Link Back in this day an Age i miss seeing him Thanks Nintendo for bring this classic back.

  • flameraver64

Oof, haven’t played Skyward Sword so didn’t realize that Zelda doesn’t look so great in it. And wonder how they’re gonna do the exclusive costumes in the US, dunno if we’d get three different editions

    • fool

yo man SS Zelda is da cutest

      • Namuro

        Damn right, yo! :D

    • Justin Graham

Skyward Sword Zelda isn’t my favorite Zelda in terms of her appearance, but it’s grown on me a lot and the Hyrule Warriors costume version of the look is cute.

      • Ruins72

I feel like that filter the game had over everything made the environments look nice but ruined the character models :T
I’m not a fan honestly. That said the devs of HW have done a great job bringing that style over to WiiU and making it look great :D

    • Asura

I haven’t played SS either but that’s by far the best design of the 3.

      • raymk

I think its the worst personally, not that its bad but it looks to casual and she wasn’t a princess then.

In all honesty its really just the artstyle and that face that makes me not like the costume. If she had her older face and different artstyle I’d like it just fine.

    • Oxybelis

Original design art of SS is the best Zelda.

  • SlickRoach

The models look amazing, especially seeing them together and how differently stylized each one is. I’m just waiting for some Majora’s Mask characters to be playable to sell me over.

    • Namuro

Yeah, it’s pretty nice to see them all lined up like that. But if you show this to a person who has never played Zelda games before, I’ll bet that they’d think the Twilight Princess one is the latest one, because of his more realistic looks. LOL (not to mention that because he’s in the front…)

      • SlickRoach

But first you’d have to break down to them that Link’s name isn’t Zelda first.

        • Namuro

          True, true…

  • David García Abril

Zelda looks pretty great, but Link’s models look like they recycled them from the original games (3DS version in the case of OOT Link) without too many improvements.

Although… I always remembered Zelda’s dress in OOT as being pink instead of purple. :S

    • Ixbran

Her dress was recolored to be a soft purplish pink in OoT 3D.

      • David García Abril

What’s wrong with good old pink anyway?

Kirby’s pink, and that doesn’t make him any less badass. lol

        • Ixbran

Too much of a resemblance to Peach? I dunno, I prefer her in purple over pink, so I like the change.

          • J_Joestar

yeah, there was that thing about a 6 year old girl asked to name Smash characters, and Zelda got renamed “Princess Peach 2″ and Kirby got ” Ghost Peach”

          • Ixbran

Hahahahaha! Peach 2!? god lord, thats funny!

    • Guest

All the Link models have different faces though.

  • Zazon Zenzy

Hey, Skyward Sword Link is left handed there…? Wasn’t he right handed in his own game?

    • MadokaXHomura

was it not because wii controller right hand people are more common than left handed?Twilight Princess for Wii also had link as right handed but in gamecube version link is left handed.

      • Jadfish

dude the Wii version of Twillight Princess was the identical to the Gamecube version

        - except that the whole game was mirrored, so that Link could be right handed for Wii users. Seriously, look at the Hyrule map in the Wii version and compare it to the Ocarina of Time map. You’ll note something’s off.

        • Kaijumaster

Yeah which is why GC> Wii in that particular scenario

    • Alexander Marquis Starkey

You’d want them to flip the entirety of all of Link animations just because SS’s costume should be Left Handed?

  • MadokaXHomura

Fierce Deity Link as separate character or transformation.i soo want that to happen, and maybe a WW Link?

    • MagcargoMan

Between Zelda using the Wind Waker and Lana using the Deku Leaf I think Toon Link is pretty much disconfirmed.

  • Namuro

Seeing the 3 Zelda lined up like that, make me realized even more of how much I adore Skyward Sword’s Zelda!

    So cute. (/// ´∀`///)

  • Nessz

So what do I have to do in order to get the 9 costumes? Buy the game 3 times???

    • Haganeren

I don’t think so !!! DLC seems to be more likely !!!

  • Kornelious

I sure hope TK make a cool limited Edition for the US (Like they’re doing with Samurai Warriors 4) Or at least release the DLC for purchase in the west…….Though I REALLY want a Limited Edition X(

    • zferolie

i really REALLY want that treasure box to come to america. like so bad

  • DragonSix

Whelp, TP costumes are basically the same as OOT but with less colors.

    • triablos

I like the TP one more

    • MrJechgo

      Good luck trying to neglect one of the series’ best-selling entries… ¬_¬;

    • Christopher C

      you mean more gritty.

    • Kaijumaster

I always saw TP costumes as the ‘Definitive’ costumes. Though I love beyond words the now very apparent physical difference between Skyward Sword Zelda & TP Zelda. Really sells how Diffrent Skyward Zelda was.

    • David García Abril

TP Link’s chain mail and PANTS say hello.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

Fierce Deity should be a weapon not a costume

  • ThunderGod_Cid

Definitely like the TP version the best.

  • Yan Zhao

I like how they actually put more effort into modeling the faces to be based on the respective games too, rather than just an attire change. Props to TK for the details.

And yeah “Power” costume set can only refer to Ganondorf, since hes always the one with the Triforce of Power, while Link is courage and Zelda Wisdom. We can safely assume Ganondorf WILL be in the game and playable.

Now I’d lose it if they use his Smash Bros moveset lol.

  • fairysun

Need all available Zelda costumes !!

    • Snorlaxation

      This is perfect.

    • mockturtle

In fairness to Twilight Princess Zelda, I think even she’d admit that being Link’s romantic interest is somewhat nonsensical given how little time they spend together.

    • John Smith

      Tsundere Zelda is best Zelda

  • Tincho D

I don’t like how the human protagonists look like chinese modded characters, specially the faces. Their facial features and structures should resemble more the original designs.

    • Justin Graham

      “Chinese modded characters”?

      • Tincho D

        Yes.

        • Justin Graham

I don’t understand what you mean by that descriptor.

          • Tincho D

Like when a chinese developer makes a mod character for a game, and the design looks close to the original design of the character it tries to emulate but just not close enough to resemble it, which gives a weird uncanny feeling. That’s exactly the feeling these TLOZ character representations give off.

Also, if you see the faces of the characters of this article, you’ll notice the facial structures seem alike those of Dynasty Warriors’s characters, which are chinese. Zelda’s case is the most obvious, as her facial features look more chinese (except the eyes) rather than alike the original designs.

          • Justin Graham

You’re still not making sense. These are versions of Link and Zelda from three games and are thus heavily based on those designs. The poses used in the promotional images above are even meant to replicate poses from official artwork created for each game. If anything looks off, it’s only because these designs are costume skins for existing Hyrule Warriors characters created by the HW art team. If by calling them “Chinese modded characters” you mean to say that they’re low rent, then I completely disagree.

          • Tincho D

If you can’t understand what i’m talking about then too bad. Your vision is obviously clouded if you cannot perceive the designs don’t fully resemble their originals.

            >These are versions of Link and Zelda from three games and are thus heavily based on those designs.
And yet they still look like chinese modded characters, as if the developers grabbed model features from DW and mashed them together along with original accesories to create HW’s Link and Zelda…

            >If by calling them “Chinese modded characters” you mean to say that they’re low rent, then I completely disagree.
I already explained what i meant by it, and you failing to understand it doesn’t change the fact the characters look like chinese modded characters. But now that you mention it, the graphics in general don’t look very good either, following the tradition of Musou games.

          • 古戸ヱリカ

I don’t understand this Chinese modded explanation.

          • Justin Graham

No, I understand quite well that they do look a bit different. I’ve said as much above when I noted that the designs are reskinned variants of the base Hyrule Warriors models and the art was done by Tecmo Koei, so of course they tend to resemble Dynasty and Samurai Warriors characters a bit more in the finer details of their faces and such. That being said, your comment calling them “Chinese modded characters” is still inaccurate.

    • Ban The Jackass

I’m Chinese and I’m kinda.. offended. … Just kidding, I still dun get what you’re trying to say. The human protagonists doesn’t have thin slitted eyes!

  • http://queensblade.net/index.php/characters/cattleya gulabjamuns

While I was already sold on this long ago, I hope they can add some ALttP representation to this game… I’d love to see how 3D models of characters from ALttP turn out. That would honestly blow my mind. I have no idea how they’d do Link (if there’s even a point…?) but maybe Zelda…? Agahnim? Use the artwork from the manual for reference? At least bring back the crazy sign post man? I’m convinced he could be a greater threat than everyone combined for the sake of his sign post… the OP character… the true Lu Bu.

  • FivePointedTheStar

I hope we’re getting these Premium and Treasure Box editions, too.

    • Dascylus

Yeah, I’m not very cool with region-exclusive DLC because of limited edition packages being region-specific. Hoping NA gets this, mostly because I want that scarf >.>

  • raymk

I love the zelda costumes! All of them! The TP costume looks the best in the HW game design, but I think I’m going to like the OoT one the most.

  • Ric Vazquez

    Nice

  • Chaos_Knight

I hope Impa gets her OoT and SS designs as DLC.

    • MagcargoMan

That’d be cool, but I don’t think she will. Link and Zelda’s costumes work because they still have the same proportions, which means it doesn’t cause hitbox issues. Impa’s design in this game doesn’t have the same proportion as her OoT and SS designs, so they wouldn’t really work. The best they could do is have her look the same but wear their clothing.

  • Sakurazaki

    Ocarina Zelda best Zelda.

  • Alexandra Cordes

Skyward Sword Zelda most adorable Zelda.

  • 古戸ヱリカ

    Twilight Princess Zelda acceptable Zelda.

  • Sora Nojiko

Maybe the “Power” set is for this fierce Deku sprout?

  • mockturtle

If the last set is Ganondorf costumes, it’ll be interesting to see if they keep the Skyward Sword/Ocarina of Time/Twilight Princess theme going, because if they do that’d mean that one of the costumes would have to be him as Demise, effectively ruling out Demise as his own playable character.

Or they could pull a C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER and do Wind Waker Ganondorf instead. Or something.

    • Ixbran

Power Set only has 2 costumes. So if it is a set for Ganondorf, it’ll only be TP and OoT costumes. Makes sense, since Ganondorf wasnt in SS.

    • k.b.a.

i’d be more interested in seeing how they’d design him in universe he’s never been too. just like there has never been more than one appearance for sheik, but she is constantly changed for hyrule warriors and smash brothers. what would another ganondorf look like?

i shouldn’t put my hopes on a game to show me this. heading to tumblr and deviantart

  • Raltrios

Twilight Princess had the best designs in the series. I absolutely loved that game, and the beautiful, detailed world it was in.

  • MagcargoMan

It’s kinda odd how OoT Zelda’s pose is the only one that doesn’t mimic the original artwork. But it doesn’t matter, I just thought it was interesting to point out.

  • Ciaran Doherty

Doubt we’ll get alternate costumes from The Wind Waker for Link, Zelda and Ganondorf respectively will we folks :[?

    • MagcargoMan

Well they have completely different proportions, so of course not.

      • Ciaran Doherty

True but I mean they could always adjust the sizes to them.
